Can anyone tell me if its normal (then i should increase the threshold) or else, what could be wrong?

Thanks.

Why doesn't the board default to 2,3,3,7 since those are the settings for the 512 sticks from Kingston and I have spd enabled?

Are the Kingston hyperX modules from the same lot and revision level? Kingston has had quite a variation in some of the chips they use. Some modules are 2.5V and others 2.6, and have differences in timing too. For best performance these should be matched to the same lot. I like the way Kingston packages their modules too, so you can see the lot number, rev level and voltage on the package.

I picked up the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe today and have one question.... On the IEEE1394 external bracket, there are two connectors but the wire only connects to one of the connectors on the board. Am I correct that only one of the two ports on that bracket can be used or is there a way to connect both to the motherboard? I haven't installed the motherboard yet but a question on the BIOS, I noticed that 1009 says to install 1008 first but is this needed since I thought 1009 would erase whatever was on the board anyways? And to change the HS on a case with no motherboard tray, does the entire motherboard have to be taken out to apply AS3 and stuff? Thanks.

I may be getting a P4C800 motherboard soon & have a question about fan speed control.

I know the CPU fan can be varied (by using the Asus utility for example) but what about fans connected to the other two fan headers (Chassis & PSU)?

Could I use an application like Speedfan to automatically control the speed of the other fans?

Did somebody try overclocking the board? What settings do you put into the BIOS and how far the CPU goes? Any suggestions?

Hi guys, I got the p4c800-e and 1024mb of corsair twinx 3200LL. The timings I get right now are 2.5-3-2-6 and I'm trying to get 2-2-2-5 from that memory. When I play around in the bios by disabling automatic SPD and making the settings manually I get a corrupted bios message. I trying changing the dram voltage to 2.75 as well without any better luck. Has anyone experienced this so far? Any suggestions please? >>>

I'm running 2-2-2-5@2.65V, on Corsair though...

Actually, 3.4Ghz is above average for any of the P4C chips
Most of them hit a max oc between 3.2and 3.4 no matter if
its a 2.6, 2.8 or 3.0 chip.
I am using manual settings for cpu and ram
It took 1.675vcore and I am using 2.85vdimm to get
my HyperX3500 stable @ 2-2-2-5 timings.

Thanks, jhites, can you please be a little more specific? In my version of BIOS, which is 1009 and I think thats the latest one, the only manual setting for CPU is Hyperthreading...Enable or Disable
The other option BIOS gives me is overclocking by preset % rate - 5,10,20 and 30 of which 20 and 30 killing the system and when I preset it to 20% overclocking it does not allow me to change voltage on the CPU.
So, if you can tell me what to change EXaCtLy in BIOS, I will greatly thankfull and tell everybody how good you are with the computers and if not you going to suffer the circumstances just kidding, exuse my bAd English Thanks 4the help

My P4C800 Dlx currently has v1006. Will v1008 improve performance any? And according to Asus' site, before flashing v1008, they say to update to v1007... if that is advisable, where can I get v1007?

I am running the 1008 and did not see any real +/- to performance. It does show fixes for: Promise RAID ROM.(New Promise RAID driver V1.00.1.30 is also needful for improving performance.)

Advanced Tab = Change setting to manual
Will open up many individual settings for everything. Don't use the AI Overclocking 10,20,30% junk. Just not enough options for me.

jhites --> TWO MORE QUESTIONS:
1) Which BIOS did you have before flashing v1008 ?
2) Where do I download the newest Promise driver (V1.00.1.30) ?

Promise FastTrak 378 ATA Driver V1.00.1.30 for Windows NT4.0/98/ME/2000/XP

Flash the bios and then load the new promise driver. Bios 1007 and 1008 have fixes
for the promise raid controller.
Thanks for the link and info... Btw, is it really necessary to first upgrade to 1007 (from 1006) before flashing 1008, and which program did you use to execute the updates???

Yes, it is necessary to update to 1007 before going to 1008.

The zip file from asus has all the files needed. Just boot to a
dos prompt(bootable floppy with bios update files added to floppy)
and run the exe file. Quick and easy update.

Hi jhites. I have a similar setup with P4C800-E, P4 2.8C and HyperX3500K/512 and unable to run the memory at 2-2-2-5 as yours. It crashed every time I tried with voltage to 2.85. Can you please help us getting to your setting ? Thanks.

With a 2.8C it should be a cake walk running 5:4 on that ram. What fsb and mem ratio are you using. I have my 2.8C on a P4P800 with TwinMos3700 at 2.5-3-3-7 @ 2.85vdimm running 1:1 (236fsb / DDR472).

Not really any big secrets on my BIOS settings. I am running one of the first P4C800-Dlx boards and not the -E but that should not make any difference. PS is Antec TruePower 480.
BIOS 1008 Final with HT = Enabled
Advanced =
Manual (261fsb) (320-mem ratio) (66/33-agp lock)
(vcore=1.675) (vdimm=2.85) (vagp=1.70) Performance Mode=Auto
Chipset =
2-2-2-5-4-Auto-Infinite-64uSec

Onboard Devices =
All are disabled except Lan and Serial Port 1
Lan is connected to a Netgear Gateway Router with 4 port switch
and 1 switch is connected to a 4 port hub running all 5 of my PC's
networked in my home. They help to keep my electric bill up nicely.
USB Function =
(2 usb port) I use a 4 port hub
(usb 2.0 controller = disabled) no 2.0 devices
speech config = disabled
music config = disabled

Thanks jhites. I am unable to do what you can do or get from your boards. My setting for memory is 2-3-2-5. I set all settting as you suggested and it locks up/hangs right after reboot. I can't get my FSB to anything higher than 209. Performance mode is set to Standard and Performance Acceleration mode is Enable. I am not really into overclocking but it would be nice to use my ram at 2-2-2-5 for best performance. Thanks.
