My Corsair TWINX 4000 was producing errors in Memtest at what I believed to be default MB settings.

It turned out that I had 1 thing manually set.
I can't remember what it was, as it's been some time.

The errors disappeared after I set that to auto, and my pc runs great.
I can OC my 2.6C to 3.2 (250FSB 1:1) and get no errors after 6 passes of Memtest.
I think my 2.6 can run stably at 3.4 too.

Btw, do I really need to buy a Northbridge fan for my P4C800-E if I OC to 3.2 or 3.4?
In fact, what should I buy to make sure my PC doesn't fry?
I'd appreciate any recommendations/advice.

Yes Computer, with Allow all it works. I know its very wierd, and having it in allow all defeats the purpose as you prolly already know lol...I even forced ports open and still nothing when in normal mode

Ok, then you know it's probably safe to say it's a Sygate problem. I use the Pro version and under "options" on the "security" tab I have EVERYTHING checked EXCEPT for "enable IP spoofing" and "enable OS fingerprint masquerading". You may or may not have that tab or those settings. When those are checked on mine, I can't get anywhere. You may want to look in the rules (I've never had to do that so I don't know if it's possible) and see if you said "NO" to something you should have said "YES" to. I think it's the "applications" button....you may want to try to go there and remove all of them to start over. Something is being blocked that needs to be allowed that you probably said a "no don't allow to" by mistake.

Ok I was using defualt settings. I will try and turn off the masquerading value and see if that works. I am using Sygate Pro 5.1 btw. I wonder if it has something to do with that option...but then, why does my router still block things even without sygate, such as remote assistance...even if i DMZ it doesnt allow..but on this netgear card, it allows me without any problems.

Hi,

I am really confused. I have the following setup:

On the Intel ICHR5 SATA
1) WD360D
2) WD360D

On the promise controller:
1) Maxtor 160MB SATA

At first, I tried the two WD360's in RAID0 - No problem with the config program

Then I try to XP and the install does not see any disks, but both the Promise and Intel bios see them???

I changed to no Raid for the Intel and now I can see one of the WD360 drives.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Dale

It could be with the Asus LAN setup there are going to be things that are different that with your NIC. That's why Sygate may be working ok with the NIC but not with the Asus LAN. I just found out something is screwed up with my Sygate. I DO have the box checked to "halt all traffic when service is not loaded" and everything still works when it's not loaded! This just started happening today. I can shut Sygate down, and I can still send/receive email and websurf!

If your router is like mine and a gateway/router (DI-704) it has hardware firewall built into it. You don't really need a software firewall in addition to a hardware firewall, but I use it for a bit of added security. I tested this at several security sites and the hardware firewall passed ALL tests except GRC.com's "Leak test". I needed a software FW for that, so that's why I use it. I also have XP's native FW enabled. If you do, you may want to try and disable it. It only blocks outgoing I believe (or does it only block incoming?) I KNOW it ONLY blocks one or the other. I can find all those security links if you're interested and you can have them scan, probe & sniff your PC for leaks with and without a software FW.

Why do think Nvidia is "the devil"? I'm curious to know since I don't know what video card to use either. I have an AIW Radeon 7500 64mb, GeForce MX2 64mb, V4 4500 32mb, and Rage Fury Maxx 64mb. I guess the Maxx is out since there are no XP drivers for it except for what's on the XP CD. Probably none for the Voodoo either.

I say their the devil just because, umm not sure prolly a few things, like arrogance ("the way its meant to be played") and because they say their the worlds leader in "visual processing solutions".

But beyond that they are partners with another devil, AMD. They think they can takeover chipsets too.
They just generally annoy me...

Why dont you put the 160 on the MB's native IDE, instead of promise? You're not RAIDing that drive anyway.

Come to think of it, I wish there were a way to combine the southbridge and promise raid into one super raid, or at least use the promise as a 1 in a 0+1.

I want to update my bios...I think I'm running 1002 I recall...basically whatever my mobo shipped with (ASUS P4C800 Deluxe...bought about 2 months ago). I just downloaded the latest posted BIOS from the ASUS web page....1011, posted on 9/4/2003. I also downloaded the utility AFUDOS to update the bios.

With this, do I put both of these on a disc and do it from a DOS prompt? Sorry for the basic question, just couldn't find any good instructions on their web page.

The detailed instructions are in the back of your manual that came with the board

Can any of you guys that are familiar with OC this boards right an OC for dummies ??? pleeeeaaze.

Nothing to elaborate but something that explains the basics and the terms.

I have all the toys and have been building my own pc's for 10+ years, but I have never OC'd a mobo yet.

I just got the P4C800-E, P4 2.6C, Corsair TwinX 1Gig PC4000 PT, 450ps. I've got all the goods but not sure where to start.

Also how important is buying a fan for the northbridge if I'm going to OC?
I already have 6 case fans in my Lian Li.

I'm really not sure where to start and dont quite understand all the oc' terms yet.... like "relaxed timing" etc...

Anyone up for the challange?

TY

Trininox, see my last post above, 2nd paragraph. ZA is ok, but it's a resource hog; it consumes more resources and memory over others.

Ironwolf you may want to look into Outpost, it's a good one and doesn't consume much at all. It's a bit more complicated though to setup and use correctly, and I had trouble with it on XP, hence my move back to Sygate. It can block ads by size, cookies, scripting, many other things but I found that to interfere too much with websites and it would should down all traffic too frequently.

vortexted, where is the link for the article? (I can't tell if you answered your own question about the BIOS update, or if you are quoting someone else. If that text is from someone else, you need to "quote" it, or at least put it in italics or something like that. If you're asking.....I posted something on this recently in this thread, look up and you'll see it. Might be on previous page for you).

Guys, on the P4C800-E Deluxe, can only ONE HD be hooked up to the PRI_RAID connector?

Also, what is the point of having only one of these connectors???? Shouldn't you have two IDE RAID connectors for IDE RAID functions? Using one means you have to slave one and get reduced performance. This seems to defeat the purpose of using IDE RAID in the first place! Since that is a PCI RAID chipset, you'd be better off using a PCI IDE RAID controller card with two separate ports.

The P4C800-E has one only Promise PRI_RAID connector. But you can connect TWO drives to it. I've never used it on my board, so I can't tell you how well it works.

Just about any motherboard can have problems, especially if it's not set up properly, which I suspect happens in 95% of the cases where users report "issues." Some people claim this board doesn't like ATI cards. I'm using an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and have had zero problems. Others say USB Legacy Support has to be disabled in the BIOS. I personally have had more problems when it was disabled than enabled. In short, you will hear alot of rumors. Of all the Canterwood boards out there, the P4C800-E is probably one of the best. And the people whose opinions I trust have said the same thing. Just my two cents.

I 'm sorry to ask such a foolish question but i just built a new computer using the p4c800 dlx and I can not find where in the bios to set the fsb/ memory frequency ratio. I have read the maual through and through and checked every option in the bios. This is driving me crazy. This is the first computer I have ever built so I have never overclocked a machine before but I think I understand the basics and this has me confused.
Thanks, Sorry.

Thanks, Sorry.

In the "advanced" section of the BIOS, you will see an item called JumperFree Configuration. Open that up and you will see a sub-section called AI Overclock Tuner. Change it to manual and a list of items including CPU External Frequency and CPU Ratio will appear. To change the FSB, use the + or - keys. For changing memory timings, go to the section called Chipset and open that up. Change the item called Configure DRAM Timing by SPD to disabled and you'll be able to change your memory timings.

Advanced Tab
>JumperFree Configuration
AI OC has to be set to manual and it will show:
Dram Frequency = (Ratio's) ie: 320Mhz=5:4

Edit: Just to slow typing

Thanks for the input. So can anyone tell me if ONE hard drive can be connected to the PRI-RAID connector? I think I'm going to get this mobo now, and I need that "extra" IDE connector for my secondary "storage hard drive".

Does this mobo come with a joystick port header in all retail versions? I don't see any MIDI connector on the I/O area.

Can anyone verify you can use ALL IDE ports AND all SATA ports at the SAME time?

Has anyone found a price cheaper than $187 for the P4C800-E Deluxe?
