Hmmm, did you use 1:1 or 5:4 timing? Maybe setting Performance to "Turbo" turns PAT on?

Just what "tweaking" did you do?The fun starts after I started tweaking for higher performance

I know about CPU-Z but are there any other favorites out there that help?
I'm also interested in benchmarking software so if you know of any that are good to do comparisons with I'd love to hear about them. I'm planning on benchmarking my stock setup, then o'clock and do the measurements again after each tweak.
Thanks for your reply in advance!
AIDA32 has much more information than CPU_Z and memory benches.Originally posted by: Xeon

As far as benchmarking, that would depend on what you mainly use you pc to do. General uses would be something like SysMark or Winstone, Encoding DivX or UT for gaming. Prime95 bench or SpecView Perf would give a pretty good comparison for times to complete tasks or if you really want to get technical run a Seti Bench as you oc. Stopped using Sandra months ago, since the results are just to inconsistent.
Check this link. Not sure if all the items listed are free. ATTO disk benchmark is definitely worth downloading. 3DMark03 and 3DMark2001 are free, if you choose the versions with limited functionality. The pro versions cost money. PCMagazine has a bunch of benchmarking programs like Business Winstone and WinBench which you can download for free. link. You can also order these programs on CD, but you'll be charged for shipping and handling.Originally posted by: computer
I've been meaning to ask that myself. Are there any free benchmarking programs available besides Sandra, AIDA, Fresh diagnose, and MemTest? If so, where can you get them please?
I use Sandra Pro 2003, AIDA, Memtest86 & Fresh Diagnose. They are all free (Basic version of Sandra is free). If you go to Google and search for them you'll find them.
Yes, it definitely changes the way you set up RAID. The ICH5 does not support RAID. You'll have to use the Promise controller which should be enabled in your BIOS. You also need to set up your array in the Promise MBFastTrak BIOS which should appear during boot up after you've enabled the controller. Migrating RAID'ed drives is much easier when the two boards use the same RAID controller. But in your case, you may be out of luck. You'll probably have to re-establish your array and do a fresh install of your OS.Originally posted by: ScissorClaw
I accidentally posted this in the main motherboard section and then remembered there is this thread just for this mobo. Sorry folks...
Anyway, here is my problemo. I have a P4C800 that I bought the day they came out and haven't used yet. Until today. I set it up with a dvd and cd/rw on the secondary master/slave channel. I have to WD 40JB's set-up on the SATA1 channel. The drives had been used on a INTEL 865PERL board that went south on me. They were RAIDED on that board as well. So I boot the computer tonight and they two HS's show up as being on the third and fourth master. However, at no point in the boot-up process does it ask me how I want to set-up the RAID. I also have flashed the BIOS with the latest from ASUS.
Now I know that this mobo uses the ICH5 and not ICH5R, but this change the way you set-up RAID? I have RAID turned on in the BIOS. I have the hardware set-up to use the combo p-ata/s-ata. I've tried booting with both the promise controller on and off. The only difference I get is that with it on, the BIOS tell me I have nothing attached so therefore the promise bios is not loaded. Then it just goes to the usual "please insert boot disk...yada yada yada..."
Any ideas what I am doing wrong? <B>

Do you have RAID enabled in the BIOS? Check this forum.Originally posted by: TommyD
when I installed my Seagate Barracuda SATA 120gb drive today Windows XP detected a new piece of hardware called "Promise SATA Console SCSI Processor Device." does anyone know where I can get the driver for this? It's not on Asus website or on the CD which came with the motherboard.

Gogoman are you saying the newest BIOS didn't work? I'm not sure I understand......you said you flashed the BIOS "to 1011", then "but I had to reflash my bios back to 1011." to get it work. I assume the BIOS versions you typed are correct and you had to flash the BIOS again with the same version?

Sounds like you had the drives connected to the ICH5 SATA ports(SATA1 and SATA2) instead of the Promise Controller ports (SATA3 and SATA4).[/quote]Originally posted by: gogoman
[ You mentioned that the MBFastTrak BIOS should appear during boot up whe it is enabled/ That's the problem. The the setup doesn't come up when I enable it. Nothing, nada! I'm beginning to think that I have a defective board. I have it enabled and set to raid, but alas, nothing.
