Hmmm, did you use 1:1 or 5:4 timing? Maybe setting Performance to "Turbo" turns PAT on?

Just make sure Performance Acceleration Mode is enabled in the BIOS and you should be fine.

Heh, this sounds like my exact setup. It's good to see that your clocking it up that high. How stable is she running at that clock and what power supply are you running it with?

I'll be starting my o'clocking experience this next week as I have been concentrating wiring up (picture perfect wire job) this beast for the past week as I find time with my busy schedule.

I take it you've hit your ceiling at the 257.2 so I'm curious what PSU your using.

C ya!

Nice laggerez!

I ended up going with the PC Power & Cooling T51DX Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe PSU which an Idle output of 550W and 650W Peak. This unit has a gauranteed -1% variance in voltages, which was my primary reason for getting this particular PSU.

Take care!

Gogoman are you saying the newest BIOS didn't work? I'm not sure I understand......you said you flashed the BIOS "to 1011", then "but I had to reflash my bios back to 1011." to get it work. I assume the BIOS versions you typed are correct and you had to flash the BIOS again with the same version?
The fun starts after I started tweaking for higher performance
Just what "tweaking" did you do?

In preperation for beginning my o'clocking, what are some of the best utilities out there to measure vcore, FSB, etc., that are available for dowload.

I know about CPU-Z but are there any other favorites out there that help?

I'm also interested in benchmarking software so if you know of any that are good to do comparisons with I'd love to hear about them. I'm planning on benchmarking my stock setup, then o'clock and do the measurements again after each tweak.

Thanks for your reply in advance!

Any idea what the difference is between revision 1 & 2 for the P4C800E deluxe ? Such a new board and already at rev 2 has to make one wonder.

I use SiSoft Sandra & Aida32 for measuring memory, FSB, etc. For hard drives, I would recommend ATTO disk benchmark.

SiSoft Sandra
Aida32
ATTO & other utilities

AIDA32 has much more information than CPU_Z and memory benches.
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32
As far as benchmarking, that would depend on what you mainly use you pc to do. General uses would be something like SysMark or Winstone, Encoding DivX or UT for gaming. Prime95 bench or SpecView Perf would give a pretty good comparison for times to complete tasks or if you really want to get technical run a Seti Bench as you oc. Stopped using Sandra months ago, since the results are just to inconsistent.

Thanks a lot jhites and DAVIDS!

I love AIDA32! It appears that all these benchmarking tools cost you money (at least the Sysmark and Winstone) although the Winstone is just shipping for version 1.

Are any of these tools something I can just download somewhere?

At any rate I appreciate the feedback and I'll look into all the others.

BTW, I'm running 30% overclocked right now and it's as stable as can be. This pushes my 2.4C to 3.2 Ghz! Unfortunately I don't have the tools to see if it's actually performing better yet, but I'll take care of that shortly once I get some of these tools.

Thanks again,

I've been meaning to ask that myself. Are there any free benchmarking programs available besides Sandra, AIDA, Fresh diagnose, and MemTest? If so, where can you get them please?

I use Sandra Pro 2003, AIDA, Memtest86 & Fresh Diagnose. They are all free (Basic version of Sandra is free). If you go to Google and search for them you'll find them.

Check this link. Not sure if all the items listed are free. ATTO disk benchmark is definitely worth downloading. 3DMark03 and 3DMark2001 are free, if you choose the versions with limited functionality. The pro versions cost money. PCMagazine has a bunch of benchmarking programs like Business Winstone and WinBench which you can download for free. link. You can also order these programs on CD, but you'll be charged for shipping and handling.

Thanks David I'll check them out. I have Winstone, Winbench, 3D mark, et al that I got from ZDnet (now PCmag) but that was about 5-6 years ago. That's pretty old now and I doubt they'd even work properly on a new PC.

I accidentally posted this in the main motherboard section and then remembered there is this thread just for this mobo. Sorry folks...
Anyway, here is my problemo. I have a P4C800 that I bought the day they came out and haven't used yet. Until today. I set it up with a dvd and cd/rw on the secondary master/slave channel. I have to WD 40JB's set-up on the SATA1 channel. The drives had been used on a INTEL 865PERL board that went south on me. They were RAIDED on that board as well. So I boot the computer tonight and they two HS's show up as being on the third and fourth master. However, at no point in the boot-up process does it ask me how I want to set-up the RAID. I also have flashed the BIOS with the latest from ASUS.
Now I know that this mobo uses the ICH5 and not ICH5R, but this change the way you set-up RAID? I have RAID turned on in the BIOS. I have the hardware set-up to use the combo p-ata/s-ata. I've tried booting with both the promise controller on and off. The only difference I get is that with it on, the BIOS tell me I have nothing attached so therefore the promise bios is not loaded. Then it just goes to the usual "please insert boot disk...yada yada yada..."
Any ideas what I am doing wrong? <B>

when I installed my Seagate Barracuda SATA 120gb drive today Windows XP detected a new piece of hardware called "Promise SATA Console SCSI Processor Device." does anyone know where I can get the driver for this? It's not on Asus website or on the CD which came with the motherboard.

Yes, it definitely changes the way you set up RAID. The ICH5 does not support RAID. You'll have to use the Promise controller which should be enabled in your BIOS. You also need to set up your array in the Promise MBFastTrak BIOS which should appear during boot up after you've enabled the controller. Migrating RAID'ed drives is much easier when the two boards use the same RAID controller. But in your case, you may be out of luck. You'll probably have to re-establish your array and do a fresh install of your OS.

Do you have RAID enabled in the BIOS? Check this forum.

You mentioned that the MBFastTrak BIOS should appear during boot up whe it is enabled/ That's the problem. The the setup doesn't come up when I enable it. Nothing, nada! I'm beginning to think that I have a defective board. I have it enabled and set to raid, but alas, nothing.

Just what "tweaking" did you do?

I had to reflash cos I had a bios checksum error which the mobo reflashed the default bios P4C800ED.ROM in the Asus CDROM to recover.

Just what tweaking did I do? Oh, the usual stuff like FSB and DRAM timings. I am now at 250 FSB(5:4 ratio) and 2-4-4-8-8 timing (as rated for Hyper-X PC3500). I was able to get better Sandra memory bandwidth scores (~5500/5450) with 2.5-3-3-8-8 timings but I guess I better use the rated timings. I didn't want to bother going any higher with the FSB cos the extra performance I get vs stability isn't worth the effort. I am getting 5480 with 3dmark03 and over 16000 with 3dmark2001SE. I don't think the little extra FSB will make a noticeble difference.

I am using Sandra burn-in wizard for testing the stability. What are you guys using?

Sounds like you had the drives connected to the ICH5 SATA ports(SATA1 and SATA2) instead of the Promise Controller ports (SATA3 and SATA4).

I'm at work right now and have to check when I get home, but therein may lie the problem. How happy would I be if that was it!!!! I'll get back to ya
