Just to get things started....

Go to asusboard's Intel chipset forum for a great database of information on the ASUS P4G8X motherboard. I would also highly recommend reading this ASUS P4G8X tweaking guide, courtesy of asusboard's forum member bigtoe. Not only is asusboards one of the best online forums for information on the ASUS P4G8X, but also Intel chipsets in general. There are several very dedicated forum members there that help out users daily; they even post on the AnandTech forums occasionally. I also post at asusboards by the way.

By visiting these forums you may not even have to post a single word to find what you're looking for regarding the ASUS P4G8X.

A couple of points to note on the P4G8X-Deluxe

There have been many reported issues with the ATI 9700 Pro,
but there is a work around. Turning off fast writes and not enabling write combining.

Also, the Gigabit Lan has compatability issues with several cable modems.
Mine included. Toshiba PCX1100

The two above may be able to be corrected with a BIOS or Driver update
but this has not happened as of yet.

Edit There is also a OS Installation Guide Here
that I would recommend being used.

my vcore is fluctuating pretty big... ~.1V lower than normal reading under stress...guess the overvolting kinda makes up for it, but it's not a pretty picture when under load it lowers vcore gets hotter and locks up on me...

Yup

Been using it for couple of weeks.
Can't tell any difference in the system and it did not
fix the memory timing issue.

Do a search on the 1004. There is a couple of threads
with some information on it.

Should be the Official Asus P4G8X Sightings Thread.

Anyone know where anyone has any stock of any kind? LOL.

You might also want to try the 1004-14 Beta BIOS Here

You would still need the wpcredit/wpcrset to change the memory
timings over 145fsb, as they default to 2.5-3-3-7.

Edit: Fixed link

Well because of the "THUGS STAMP OF APPROVAL" I pulled the trigger on an order today.

I purchased from AJUMP.COM even though I haven't heard much about them their ratings seemed good and the price was right.

ASUS P4G8X GD/UAY at AJUMP.COM for $203 shipped

resellerratings

bizrate rating

It appears most of the complaints concern slow shipping. I can live with that.

Well I ordered mine yesterday and it shipped today

But I feel sorry for you

I also see it is now listed at $210 (and backordered).

So has anyone figured out the difference between the GD and the GD/UAY.
I figured the A = audio, Y = firewire, but what is the U?

Oh well, easy come easy go. I hope you aren't planning to run it on stock.

I got mine for $202 from MCParts. They shipped it immediatly.

Do be aware they don't know if its the std, deluxe, or gold. The description reads like the deluxe, and at least in my case, it came in as the gold.

Gold = deluxe plus some dvd/mpeg bundle.

It uses DDR only.

You can download the manual here in pdf form and start reading on page 37 about the memory. You will need to use matching DDR modules to take advantage of the dual channel DDR.

I am considering this motherboard.
I am torn between it and the 8INXP.

The deciding factor has to do with my overclockablity with my RAM wich is Crucial 2700.

The 8INXP has a 3:4 memory ratio setting while the P4G8X does not.

Pardon the newb question.. but I am still running a BX board so this is new to me.

At 3:4 ratio does my RAM run slower or faster than 1:1 ratio?????

I cant afford a gig of ultra quality RAM so the Crucial will have to do.
If 3:4 ratio makes my RAM run slower then I may get a better overclock because I have
a 2.4b SL6EF and may get over 170 FSB with this thing if I am lucky.

Can someone please clear this up for me???

Thanks

Peace
Rich

@170fsb =
3:4 ratio would put you memory running at DDR453
1:1 ratio would put it at DDR340

The crucial would not do 453 but could probably do 340

However if you only have one stick of ram for the granite bay then
you would not be taking advantage of the dual-channel ddr.

Thanks for the help and the fast reply.
One last question... just to be sure.

The memory ratio on the P4G8X is 1:1 right???

I do have 2 sticks of RAM

2 x 512mb I hear having 2 512 mb sticks may limit my overclock a little but I really wanted a gig of ram.

Thanks

Peace
