you can only run memory in 1:1 ratio.

if you want a faster memory speed you will need a cpu that overclocks farther.

Nope - You would need a different motherboard. You only get 2X fsb. In your case you are running DDR280 DC.

i thought p4 mobos have the ability to seperate the cpu's fsb and the rams fsb...

but why isnt it possible with P4G8X?? i hope they have this feature in the next bios upgrade...

anyways....is there other program which allow me to do so??

You could sell the P4 2.8Ghz and buy a new C1 chip to get the 200fsb or you can sell the P4G8X and get one with the multipliers that you need.

That would be about the only choices if you want to run DDR400.

Speaking about the new 200fsb quad pumped
and not the C1 stepping.
2.4C=12X multiplier
2.6C=13X multiplier
etc

I've tried to d/l the latest bios 1005g but the file comes up as being 128k (hmmm) winzip says it's invalid of course. I'm gonna try the 1005-003 beta for now which I got from the US site.

I purchased a radeon 9700pro and after a weekend of it working with only a few hiccups, this evening it is being a complete b4$7&%d. Messed up display even on the post screen!!!

I've tried disabling fast writes and write combining and I've also set the AGP/PCI to 66.66/33.33 to no avail.

This problem is freaky. After playing America's Army (www.americasarmy.com) all sunday without incident, why the heck should it misbehave now? I mean, I'm writing this post on the machine now and it's fine but as soon as I start up a game the screen could get the messed up checked pattern or hang at any moment. Indeed, it sometimes messes up and hangs on the desktop.

I'm using the latest Catalyst drivers from www.ati.com and the latest control panel d/l today.
The card is a Crucial Radeon 9700pro Bios BK-AMI VER008.004.000
The rest of my spec is accurate on my rig.

It's got me tearing my hair out! I've only had the thing since Saturday.

EDIT: Before I try the bios update I'm gonna try Uninstalling SmartGart using this http://pdownload.mii.instacontent.net/ati/drivers/smartgart-uninstall.exe which I read on the www.abxzone.com might help.

EDIT2: Well that didn't do jack. About 20 seconds into 3dmark03 the display went bad again, it didn't hang. I'm gonna try the bios now.

Things fixed:
Update onboard SATA Boot ROM
Improve AGP card margins (Hmm, I wonder if this may fix the ATI FastWrites issue?)
Hey Gus,
Test it and let us know. I'm afraid.

Heh, as the previous poster, same thing, stupid download is corrupt. But truthfully, I think I am going to bypass this one, until the Tweaked 1005s come out.

That's not good. You aren't OCing your cpu or graphics? You definately should turn 'off' FastWrites under the SmartGART tab of the ATI control panel. Also, make sure you have adequate ventilation in your case, and that the graphics card fan is spinning. Sounds like an overheat issue. Good luck.

Well that's frigged the display right from the word go. time to revert to the original bios. excuse typos if there are any, I can hardly see the screen thru all this checked pattern.

I can just about read thru all this crap on the screen. It ain't a heat issue. As I said I had the machine running all sunday playing America's Army, that'll heat any machine up on full settings. I have One intake fan low down and two exhaust fans high up. I just don't know. I'm gonna try Crucial's helpline in the morning. In the meantime I will have to fire up "venus", my spare machine, so that I can try to surf for answers. (I must get around to posting the spec of my spare machine, most ppls main rigs aren't as good)

I would have to agree with that Tweaked Bios. I got tired of using WpCredit/crset.

WeirdScience
Set the vagp in the bios to 1.70v

If you tried re-seating the graphics card, and it still doesn't post, then your card or motherboard is probably FUBAR'd. Double check the power coming into your card as well. If at all possible, take all other hardware out of your system, and try posting with only your ram, and video card.

I found the tweaked bios was far more stable than using the registry hack for whatever reason.

Agree with that and that is why I am still using the 1004-003 Tweaked Bios now.

I got a good 1005g from the global site and installed it. This is goin to sound strange but i tried a 9700, 9800 and 5800 a few weeks ago and took them all back! Could someone please test this bios with a 9800. I would really like to go ATI and not wait for 5900... So if the fast writes are really fixed, I would be VERY happy.

Thanks to all those who posted replies. I tried everything suggested and more besides. "The Beast" does not seem to want to play so I'm typing this message on "venus". You can really tell the performance difference between a 3gig pentium and and AthlonXP 2200+ when reading a forum, not! Anyway, I still can't get the 9700pro to work. I hoping a bios might fix it.

Where can I obtain 1004_003 tweaked bios? I decided to run 1004_003, but it's not sorted the problem. And every attempt to obtain 1005g from any of asus' mirrors return and invalid 128k file, even the global site.

If someone could post either bios (preferably 1005g) on some webspace so I can d/l it, I'd be grateful.

Inspite of all this, I don't regret buying this mobo. Prior to the 9700pro the machine has worked very well. And for the brief time the gfx was working it was Alienware type performance. I'll fix it somehow Any further suggestions welcome.

Did the 9800pro have similar issues to the 9700pro?
