Personally I don't think the FastWrites issues will ever be fixed by Asus. Just isn't going to work on a P4G8X. And quite honestly, I don't notice the performance difference or benchmark scores with it disabled.

I'm assuming your tried another video card on your board? Must be a bad graphics card. I hope you can RMA it and get a new one. The Tweaked bios is only if you are overclocking and want to keep tighter memory timings on your DDR ram. For example, the Asus bios only keep manual memory timings up to 145 frontside bus, and anything highers defaults to lowest memory timings. For more info on this, go to http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/tweak/e7205twen.htm

The 9700pro can be returned within 30 days, I've had it since Saturday. The tweak bios is something, having read the tweak bios = no RMA, that I would not consider doing. I hope I can get 1005g soon and I will see what that effect has.

Plumed.

3.4 did nothing to improve the problem.

9700, 9800 and 5800 all the same the same problem...guess it's time for a 875 board...no wonder intel never made their mobo with it....grrr

Not quite sure what to do now.

The problem with my Crucial 9700pro was progessive. Initially it worked well with a few hiccups and it got worse until it was unusable. I've tried everything under the sun bar fitting it in another machine (or using a tweaked bios), little point really as I want it to work in this one. I've even gone to the extreme measure of replacing the PSU with a 550watt.

I had stability and the occasion screen error, then more screen errors and hangs, the screen errors on every boot and hangs almost as frequently.

This is my dilemma.

I can and will send the 9700pro back to Crucial. But what top of the range graphics card do I go for? I bought this mobo and P4 3gig because I wanted the best. I need a graphics card to match. Have I bought the wrong motherboard? What do I do?

You tried it on another computer, and it does the same thing? If so, send it back. Get a replacement, or better yet, look into the Hercules/Tyan 9700 Pros.

Just loaded it and it seems to run as well as the 1004. Still stuck on the 2-2-2-6 timings instead of the 2-2-2-5 I wanted. Not sure yet what the benifits are.

Look up on the previous posts, the list of Asus BIOS fixes are there. Not much different than the 1004s.

Yep, pretty much the same as the 1004s. Have you increased your VDimm in the bios and try 2-2-2-5? I can only get 2-2-2-6 on default 2.5 VDimm. Usually it needs at least 2.7 VDimm to get 2-2-2-5 timings, but doesn't really equate to any better performance.

I'm very new at this so please forgive my ignorance

Using 1 gig of pc3200 corsair xms LL ram and a 3.06 ghz processor, what should my memory bandwidth be? All the tests i've run have given me around 2020 mb/s but I've seen people that have half the ram that get better results.

I'm assuming your are running your cpu at stock and it is a 533fsb (frontside bus) cpu. If you are using Sisoft Sandra memory benchmarks and running dual channel memory mode, then you should be getting at least 4000+ mb/s scores. Sounds to me your memory configuration is not running in dual channel mode if you are using a P4G8X. I'm assuming you have two 512mb modules, are they both in the same pair slots? A1-B1 or A2-B2 should be for dual channel operation, if you are using A1-A2 or B1-B2, then you will be running your ram in single channel mode.

Good luck.

they are twin 512 sticks and they are in the a1-b1 configuration. Isn't 4gb/s the maximum the board can manage without overclocking?

I just checked some readings that I ran on my wife's PC @ 144fsb with a 3.06HT and 2X512 Corsair Value PC2700 and got 3546/3549.

I never ran it at stock so can't give you what Sandra might show @133fsb. I would think that you should be at 3000+ or very close to that in Sandra. Check your timings with Cpu_Z in windows for your memory. You may be running relaxed timings.

I have little idea what these mean but this is what PCmark gave me. I couldn't find that cpu_z program you were talking about.

Can there be something wrong with the ram I'm using? I got PC3200 DDR Corsair XMS LL. Even when I overclocked to 3.4 ghz, it only increased to 2210 mb/s.

That looks more like Sandra Mem Bench Un-buffered. Right click Memory Bandwidth Benchmark and select module options - there should be a check in every box for buffered bench.
