Get the Audigy 2 OEM. Excellent card, and works perfectly with this board.

Yep, that's a bit high, but then again, my ambient temps are between 25-30 degrees celcius, and I use AS2 and took the spongy crap off my MCH heatsink. My motherboard temps still reach 41 under full load. :disgust: BTW, I'm OCing, and my frontside bus is setup to 267.

When I tell you I have tried everything, I have tried EVERYTHING! I upgraded the bios to(beta 1007.10), upgraded the Promise fastrak raid drivers(1.0.0.25), bought a new sound card(from a Creative live to an Audigy2), disabled the onboard lan and installed a PCI nic, changed power supply to a Antec True Power 550, cried and prayed to every god in the book I dont want to send this board back but if I do im getting the Abit IC7-G. I worked in I.T. for the last 5 yrs and have built numerous systems and this prob got me bad. If I transfer to a drive that is not in raid it works fine and if I transfer between drives locally it works fine. I transfer files over my network while listening to mp3s or watching divx movies often. If anyone has this board with there drives in a Raid 0 config I would be extremely grateful if you can try this on yours. I want to rule out that it is the boards issue with onboard raid that I have been reading about or maybe its just a bad apple in the bunch. Thanks for any help or suggestions

U said... "upgraded the Promise fastrak raid drivers(1.0.0.25), " ... But P4P800 use a VIA raid ... only P4C800 uses promise raid.... so hows that??

I posted this in the tech support forum but thought maybe I'll repost here as well....

Hi All,

I am building a system with the new ASUS P4P800 Deluxe MB and a Maxtor SATA drive. I cannot get the darn Win XP setup to recognize the drive no matter what I do. Downloaded the Intel 82801ER Raid Accelerator drivers and created a floppy for the F6 install. Seems to load the drivers but still later tells me that the HD cannot be found. Are the drivers better on the ASUS disk?

Here is the key thing - I do not want a RAID setup (I will only be using one disk). Do I still have to load the drivers and configure the RAID? Can I use a SATA drive on a non-RAID setup with the 82801ER controller?

Sorry but I'm a complete newbie on SATA/RAID setups. BTW, ASUS tech support is researching this for me but I thought I'd give the gurus here a try.

TIA!

Ilya

Hi,

I just installed my P4P800 and 2.6C chip. I am running a 240mhz bus. I had 2 Corsair 512mb 3200c platinum dimms from my old system. These don't like the 400mhz setting from what I gather. I am currently running on 320mhz setting with every setting maxed out to full performance, turbo modes, and lowest latencys. No prob. Running great.

The question is the ratio. If the memory speed is a ratio of bus speed, shouldn't my memory be running at like 384? Is the memory bus asynchronous? Maybe when you choose 400 and overclock teh FSB, you also increase teh memory over 400mhz??

Any proof to this?

Thanks,

Scott

I am looking at buying the P4P800 board w/ a 2.4c. Though (like everyone) I'd like to get as much as possible out of this chip, I'd be satisifed running it w/ the FSB around 250-260Mhz. I'm looking at some Kingston PC3200 HyperX 512MB (KHX3200/512) memory. Anyone have experience using this w/ this board and CPU? Should it provide me with the performance I want and still be stable? Any reccomendations for something better in a similar price range ($107 for 512MB). The Corsair PC3200 is cheaper, but many seem to think that it doesn't work with this board (according to Asus' compatibility list).

Thanks.

i just got this board today w/ the p4 3.0 and xms pc3500

i haven't overclocked yet but man this is fast! and i was coming from a i850E system w/ 2.4B and 512MB RDRAM, so that system was no slouch either!!

windows xp even survived the upgrade without having to do a repair. i'm waiting for my new hard drive to come before i reformat cause i don't want to do it twice.

but so far i'm very pleased with this board!!

I recently purchased this Buffalo (Winbond) memory to hopefully go with the ASUS P4P800 board. How can I tell if this memory will work? Is there another manufacturer that uses these Winbond chips that I can use as an indicator as to whether or not this will work?

Thanks for any help you can provide,

CK

Hi folks,

I'm also curious about temperatures on this board, can fellow P4P800 share their specs/temps? I'm running a P4 2.6C (at default 800 FSB 400 memory) in P4P800-UAY (non deluxe) with an SLK-900 using AS3 and a 92mm Panaflo L1A (at 12volts, 43cfm I believe) in an Antec Sonata with the default 120mm exhaust fan and the 80mm thermally controlled PSU fan. I also have a GF2 GTS (ouch), 512meg TwinX 3200LL and a WD Raptor + Maxtor Diamondmax ATA133.

My temps make no sense,

Idle: 24 CPU 30 MB

Load: 37 CPU 35 MB

Load was after running two instances of Prime95 (with HT on) and gaming for several hours nonstop after.

Is it possible the CPU is actually running below 40? These temps are reported with Asusprobe as whenever I load MBM5 it thinks the CPU is running at 80-95C which is not possible, as the system has not crashed under severe load testing (the BIOS temps match Asusprobe).

Thanks

Just read Solofly's post. I am in a very similar situation, ambient room temp probably 20-21 and nearly identical idle temps. Have you tried using MBM5 or Speedfan (I can't get Speedfan to detect anything other than the Raptor which is 37C)??

From what I can see and read the temps reported by the P4P800 might be a little too low...

Quick question for all of you that are able to reach 250+ FSBs with the P4P800, are you using the stock passive cooling on the northbridge ? Did you simply remove the thermal pad for some ASIII ?

After reading the article over at HardOCP, I'm asking myself if that could explain why I can't go higher than 240ish with my P4P800-2.6C...

I'd have to agree, but using an SLK900 with 57cfm Panaflo, they could be about 5 degrees lower at most.

Your MBM5 readouts are set incorrectly if they are reading 85+. I had that too, just select a different register.

Corsair pc3200s rock with this board at 5:4 memory ratio.

I checked my memory speed with CPUZ and it is 188 or 387ddr. My bus is 234 right now. I'll raise it to 236 to 240 later.

Therefore, you must run the 320 ratio when overclocking the bus dramatically! No one on this thread really addressed the mem speed when setting the bus in the 240 range. How many PC3200's and 3500's can handle 240?

I am running all turbo modes enabled and manual timings at the absolute fastest settings with PC3200 and NO crashes at all or compatibility problems. Corsair PC3200C2 512 sticks.

Just my observations...

Wow, the new version of MBM5 has a special P4P800 setting - Winbond-1 = Case Temp, Winbond-2-diode = CPU, Winbond-3 = additional thermal header (if you have one from an old board or radioshacked one together)... It's strange, that Winbond-3 temp shows my 2.75v'd DDR heatsink being higher than the CPU.

My question regarding this board is : when should I install intel chipset INF drivers ( after windows updates & sp1, or before )

also I didnt saw the intel application accelerator for this chipset on intel's website, does it work on it anyway?

thanks

I did:

Install XP
Install SP1a
Install DirectX 9.0a
Install Intel INF
Install nVidia drivers, network drivers, sound drivers
Windows Update

Worked fine, zero problems.

BTW I started another thread but to answer above, I'm using the stock cooling on the Northbridge and am running at 250 FSB right now (so 1000 FSB 400 DDR) at 1.5v stock voltage. Don't have much time but I played games for an hour then ran 2 instances of Prime95 @ 100% CPU and temps were reported at 40 CPU 35 MB or so, I'll test more later.

As for the onboard sound, it's alright, the EAX is horrible though, way too much echo, going to get an Audigy 2 OEM eventually but the onboard is good enough that I'm not going to bother swapping in my SB Live! 5.1 OEM from my Athlon.

Well, have finally got all my stuff together, havent had much chance to really play but have noticed the high MB temps tho. although i do like to keep a quiet pc so i have fans at low speed and cpu Q fan control on but idle so far i have:
CPU - 33 c
MB - 36 c
i have noticed that this cpu temp is higher in the bios tho.

- to the person who was askin about 2 x 512mb (soz, to lazy to check who it was ) i have gone for the cheaper option rather than top brands and happily have 2 x 512mb TwinMOS (with Winbond CH-5 chips) running in dual channel at SPD which is 2.5-3-3-8

The onboard sound is pretty good, but have gone back to my SB live :/ - the onboard stuff sounded just a bit more processed and less musical, only subtle, but i'm quite fussy - no probs with clicks or pops yet, have it in PCI 4

1008.003 beta bios rox!

I could only get 266fsb stable with my 2.4C on this board using 1007, now I tried the 1008.001 beta, and nothing improved. Now with this bios, I am at 270fsb testing, and so far so good.

Question regarding QFAN:

On asus it is written it ajust the fan speed according to system load/temp, but the bios setting are just fractions. Does this fraction set the speed the fan will be running all the time or what?

thanks

Q Fan will stay at that divider until a dangerous CPU temp is reached, and then it will go to full speed. I haven't experimented with if that danger temp is something it figures out or if it's the max CPU temp that we can adjust in the bios.

Hey guys,

I think the question was asked, but no answer given...

Anyone using 2 x Kingston HyperX 512mb PC3500 modules for a total of a gig of RAM... successfully?

Thanks.
