hi all

i recieved the asus p4p800 non delux on monday and so far everything is running good on auto... i tried the mam settings but my system rebooted

i see as i boot up it says something about dual channel 333 linear and wonder what the linear part means.

also how to i check to make sure it is running at 333 and not dropped to 266?

ohh and what is the mps revision? on my old 648 board it was set at 1.4 defualt but the asus board has it at 1.1 defualt. when i looked i changed it back to 1.4 but hould i have left it at 1.1?

i ran sandras and the memory outshined my 648 board but didnt even compare to the 7205 which i thought would be slower since it uses 266 ddr.

my future mark2003 went from 4800+ to 4933 so some increase there which i like though benchmarking isnt as important as the games i play.

anyway what would be optimal settings for my bios for non over clocking? everything looks different than my msi board.

thanks for any help

I noticed you have a 550 watt power supply. I am upgrading my old PC (P2 350 w. an Asus P2B MB) with a P4 2.6C and an Asus P4P 800. My old power supply is 250 watts. Will that be sufficient for a P4? I also have an ATI Radeon 64 meg video card, a CD Drive, a CD burner, and an Audigy Sound card.

What do you think?

Where did you get the 1008.003 beta bios??? I looked all over Asus's web site and could only come up with a 1007 beta dated 6/10/2003. Can you please post a link so I (others) can download it and check it out? TIA.

Hi,

At my local store they sell something called "ASUS P4P800/GD"! Which model is this and what does the "GD" stand for as I don't find any info about this on the Asus website?!

Thanks in advance for the info!

Could be a P4P800 based on the 865G chipset? If so stay away, crappy chipset with crapppy integrated graphics, don't think it even does 800 FSB.

http://www.station-drivers.com/ scroll down for the 11th. I looked at the US and german version of asus's site and couldn't find any 1.008 bios so this is your own risk. (Note: that site's outdated, asus is now on 1.008 beta4 (catch it here ftp://ftp2.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4p800/ ) )... wow, the .tw site has a broken zip.....

ok, here's a link with a full zip of it, untested by me. ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIOS/Socket_478/INTEL_Chipset/i865pe/P4P800/

Will I see a difference in performance on the P4P800 if I buy two Kingston PC3500 512 MB sticks instead of two PC3200 512 MB sticks?

I will be using a P4 2.4 800FSB CPU that I just ordered tonight from NewEgg

The only possible benefit to using PC3500 would be if you are intending to overclock... if you're thinking of pushing this CPU up around 3ghz, then yes, get the PC3500.

Hi,

How comes that in the supported memory list for the P4C800 here http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4c800/overview.htm a maximum of only 1 or 2 DIMMs are supported for certain brands. Like, for TwinMos only 1 DIMM is supported?! How can you have dual-DDR operation that way, as you need at least 2 DIMMs for that. And why don't they all work in all 4 slots?!! I don't understand?

It's the same in the suppored memory list of the P4P800 Deluxe over here http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4p800/overview.htm where not all brands can work in all 4 slots to have 2 pairs of dual-ddr or am I seeing it wrong?!

PS: anybody has experience with 2x 256MB Apacer PC3200?! It's the one they sell at my local store and you can have 4 DIMMs to have 2 pairs of dual-ddr. Which CAS latency can you use with Apacer PC3200? Isn't it so that all PC3200 modules operate standard at CAS3 and that's it's up to you to change it or not?!

Anybody can please clarify this? Thanks!!

ok, I have a bizarre problem crop up, and I found the fix!!
First, my current set-up:
p4p800
1.8A
512 mg pc2100
80 gig WD
40gig Maxtor

I have 512 mg of Kingmax 3500 on the way, and plan to get a 2.4 c in about a months' time.
Anyhow, after installing the board, and swapping everything over, of course XP pro puked on the new chipset, so I did a repair.
I had a copy of the I386 file on my harddrive, so I didn't access my cdroms in DOS at this point.
Went to run a memtest proggy I had on disc, and loaded a Win98 boot disc, for an A prompt, and was greeted with "no cdrom devices founf- device driver not loaded". Spent the next few minutes trying different drive letters- no go.
Rechecked bios settings, and saw "on board IDE mode", settable to either enhanced( default- winxp), or compatibility mode(wim98, millenium, 95, etc).
For the hell of it, I set it to "compatibility Mode"- and I got my drives back- HOWEVER, when I tried to boot into Windows, it would re-boot at the splash screen. I set the bios back to advanced, and it boots again.
ANYONE else have this problem???
