If you are trying to run a 800MHz FSB P4 on a P4P800 you are not going to get away with 266MHz memory, unless you underclock it down to 266MHz DDR from 400MHz DDR in the BIOS settings.

..

Re: Checksum problems, I too experienced this when I tried to set my TwinX1024-3200LL to 2-2-2-5, it required me to reflash the BIOS and take out the battery or it would not boot (scary the first time it happened since I was not even aware this was possible or that auto-recovery existed). I'm not sure if Turbo sets 2-2-2-5 because CPUz still reports my manually set timings of 2-3-2-6 (3 = RAS-to-CAS) even with turbo/peformance and MAM both on. I wish Asus would post detail about what these features are in the manual or at least a readme.txt. Strange thing, my XMS 3500 will each run 2-2-2-5 at stock voltage individually but once in dual channel it is a no go (this is at DDR 400-408 range).

Although the 1008.004 beta and 1008 final bios appear to be the same, I was getting all sorts of random crashes (even at stock speeds) with 004 beta which seem to have been solved in 1008 final (Prime95 would crash after a relatively short period, 3D games would cause random resets which seemed like overheating even though CPU was never over 40 etc.)

Exactly what happend to me, i havnt yet updated to 1008 i still have the 1008.004 bios, but am updating now.

Just for refernce, with running 1024 meg (2 x 512 dual channel) with 2.6 no overclock, 2-3-3-6 timings, MAM and Performance on, memory in sandra:

Int Buff: 4847
Float Buff: 4823

So around 24% difference, more than I was expecting, is that 320 in dual channel? If you push up the FSB you get better memory bandwidth as well (according to Sandra at least)

Anyone notice the new drivers for both Soundmax onboard and 3COM Gigabit LOM? Anyone know what is new in these releases? Thanks.

I was able to install the driver off the supplied CD by Asus in Windows XP, no problem. The driver off of Asus' website is the same version on the CD.

Hey Rewt, what memory timings are you able to hit with HyperX 3500 on P4P800? I'm thinking of swapping my (second) disappointing pair of XMS 3500 512's for HyperX. They aren't stable at all even at 2-3-3-7 DDR 400.

Make sure not to run Performance to turbo and MAM on at the same time. Otherwise, do you up your VDIMM? At lower memory speeds (up to 432) I run 2-3-2-5. Higher I go 2-3-3-6. I run 440MHz stable to Prime and some more serious stress testing at 2-3-2-5, but the computer didn't feel right so I dropped it back. Not much difference between the 2 timings anyway.

Did anyone notice that the new 1008 final bios at Asus says not to flash them, but to place on a floppy and run an .exe file from dos (There is a readme file when you unzip the download.). The site also explains what the bios correct.

Yes i did this. Works fine. Just boot into dos, and exe the p4p81001.exe -- and its all automagic.

When i checked what bios verison, the release bios file name doesnt change from 1008.004 -- until 1009!

I recently put together this system based on Asus P4P800, the specs are
Asus P4P800 mobo
512 MB DDR 400 x2
P4 2.4 Gig 800 mhz FSB
Leadtek Geforce4 Ti 4200
I'm using an Edimax Broadband IP router to connect this computer with an older computer i have. The problem is my internet connection gets cut off from my new rig after about 10 minutes of use, I have to restart to get the connection back. But the internet connection on my old rig is still fine. I have tried disconnecting the router and connecting the cable modem line to my new rig and the same thing happens so i think it is something with my LAn port on my Motherboard. I think it is a 3com NIC network adapter. Is there some kind of setting i need to change or driver update? if so, where can i get the latest driver?

Gramboh: my times are completely unspectacular. I'm getting 2-3-3-6 by default, although according to this article I can allegedly get 2-2-2-5. Check this out:

http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.html?i=1828&p=11

I want to know how in god's name was the author able to get both MAM and Turbo operating at the same time, because I sure haven't had that kind of luck. From what I understand, in order to get those aggressive timings via Turbo, MAM has to be disabled. Since most of us are OCing anyway, I doubt a 3-6% increase by MAM would even be noticeable so the best thing to do here is disable MAM and see if your PC3500 can hack those timings, which they should according to the article. I'm in the process of returning my Radeon 9500 Pro (looking at getting a 9800/9800 Pro) because the S/N isn't supported by the P4P800-Delux, so I haven't been able to successfuly test the HyperX with MAM disabled/Turbo enabled. Picky board. Come to think of it, is anybody here actually running a regular 9800?

Not sure if this has to do with the board or not but when I run my Radeon 9700 pro in 8X agp mode it crashes after about 15 seconds of both 3d mark benchmarks. I'm not overclocked at all. Have 30 board revision of the 9700. Any ideas?

Nevermind the revision number, what is your partnumber (p/n). If it end P/N xxx-xxxx-01, then you have to disable the fastwrites under your SMARTGart tab in your ATI control panel. You should be able to leave it at 8X AGP however. Good luck. This is a minor issue, but nonetheless, the main reason why I sold my 9700 Pro, and got a 9800 Pro, with no issues whatsoever.

Heh, yeah, that review showed amazing results with the memory and these boards. I'm guessing they get their samples from the platinum pedastal of reviewer samples. You'll notice that even the motherboards being used were the reviewer sample versions (remember the retail vs review confusion by some P4P800 Deluxe reviews). Of course, I have nothing to back this up, we're still waiting for what evan found when he asked corsair about the 512mb modules and their behavior (see the forum comments for that article)..

EDIT: Grr, they removed the article comments thread in that forum... now we'll never know.

My p/n ends in 30. I thought that had something to do with the board revision. Anyway, I still can't use 8x agp with fast write on or off. This card is frustrating the hell out of me.

I agree about the above article. The strange thing, as I have mentioned before, is that when I was initially running TwinX512-3200LL (2 x 512) I was able to hit 2-2-2-5 timings at both stock and 250 FSB (5:4 divider for 400 DDR) at default vcore/vdimm! I decided I wanted a gig of ram instead and have not been able to get RAS-to-CAS at 2 unless I run single channel.

I do turn off MAM and Turbo when OC'ing, although it seems MAM is disabled when you OC be default (even at 1:1), this is shown in the latest version of cpuZ under the memory tab 'performance mode'.

Strange thing has happened since flashing to 1008 final. Before I was able to run 13 x 250 = 3250MHz with ram at DDR 400. Now I get Prime95 errors. At first I suspected RAM, but I am able to run 1:1 @ 217 with 2-3-3-7 timings for DDR 434 with no errors so I think something strange is happening with CPU stability, even though it was fine with 1007.

When I have time on Sunday I'll do more testing (case open with floor fan blowing in to rule out heat, relaxing timings etc) to see whats going on here. I've decided to stay with XMS 3500 since I am tired of going back and forth to the store to try other brands.

Hmm, is it an ATI or other brand? I had an Built-by-ATI with p/n ending with 10, and it worked using 8X AGP, but I had to disable the Fastwrites. Maybe you need to uninstall and then reinstall the video drivers. Are you using the latest Catalyst 3.5s?

Hey there, I am having a problem with my new system I put together....

p4p800 deluxe
2*512mb ddr433 kingston hyperx ram pc3500
2.6C 800fsb intel cpu
1*120mb western digital hd
nvidia video card.
antec sonata case.

basically, with default BIOS settings, when i go to install XP, when i go to quickformat the hard drive, i get the following bluescreen error....
--------------------------------------------
"a problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer. the problem seems to be caused by setupdd.sys....

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

stop: 0x00000050 (0xA103ABA8,0X00000000,0XF7806FB0, 0X00000000)

SETUPDD.SYS ADDRESS F7806FB0 base at F77CF000 "
---------------------------------------------------

I replaced the memory with a gig of some older memory (2*512MB) and it installs fine...... then, i used the kingston memory in another machine with windows 2k on it and it worked fine as well.

So it seems to be a memory issue( maybe not?), is there anything in the bios i should be setting with this kingston memory???

any help appreciated!!!

thanks
