Corsair costs more. Id stick with kingston hyperx. I got 2x256 3500. Works perfect. You dont even really need tight timings, the improvement is minimal. Its too bad you didnt buy it last week from best buy. They had the 512mb sticks of 3500 for $100 after a rebate, and 256mb sticks for $60 after a rebate.

Anyone using the Zalman 7000 HSF with your P4P800? I've read conflicting reports that it fits, it doesn't fit.

Does it fit?

Can anyone else honestly say that Kingston HyperX pc3500 is the DDR to get with this board...remember what I want to achieve now .......read my post a few posts back if you hadn't already

What are the timings on those 2x512 HyperX modules?

I hear ya Weas

I'm even considering corsair pc3200 C2 as it is alot cheaper........now that the word is out that corsair DDR is not recognized properly with this board, and that you have to change ras to cas to 3, I wonder if it can be equally as good as the more expensive pc3200LL, pc3500, or pc3700?

I've already decided that I'm not buying this board until this is figured out.......I know, I know........."then you'll never buy it"

I am using 2 512mb 3200 HyperX with relatively few problems. I am running with 2-3-3-6 right now although according to some other posts it may work fine at 2-3-2-5. Turbo mode does not work for me and it is my understanding that turbo mode basically changes the timings to the most aggressive which in this case would be 2-2-2-5 which I can assure you will not work. Also I am unable to get MAM working and I believe this is due to the memory, maybe it would work with less aggressive memory timings. Bios 1008 and I'm not overclocking anything.

I've seen a few more people post questions about they HyperX so I thought I'd drop an update. I've been running at 2-3-2-5 for a while now on my 3200 HyperX and everything is going great. I'm now thinking I just got one of the lower quality north bridge chips which is why my MAM/PAT won't work. BTW these are running in DUAL mode.

I've seen a lot of sigs in many forums with people that have P4P800 boards (both deluxe and standard) using the CNPS7000-Cu or the AlCu. The P4P800 isn't listed in Zalman's "will not fit on mobo list" so I'm assuming they will fit (I ordered the CNPS7000-AlCu yesterday). The only thing I'm concerned with is the distance to the PSU on my Antec Sonata...

After spending a week here in the forums I was wondering why does it seem that there's not too many people using twinmos rams? Its not that I'm a fan or something, It's just that in my country its the most reliable brand available. HyperX, Crucial or even TwinX are just hard to find. I really don't have much choice but I sure would appreciate to know if there are issues concerning this chips and how it performed in you setups.

RAM availability varies across countries/continents I think. Corsair seemst o be the most common over here in Canada, my local shop carries all kinds of Corsair, OCZ and now Kingston HyperX (just the PC3500) as well as lower speed Micron, Crucial, Kingston Valueram and generic. Never seen TwinMos except for mail order.

The faster timings you get with more expensive ram are not cost efficient, e.g. you pay like 75% more for maybe 1-7% performance. Oh well, I got XMS 3500 when it was $240CAD for 512meg with 1 year instore exchange warranty + lifetime from Corsair, its now gone up to $280 for some reason (locally). Could've had Micron CAS2.5 (I think 2.5-4-4-8) 512meg for $179.

I have 2 x 512mb TwinMOS w/winbond CH5 chips - running flawlessly for 7 weeks now at default speeds.

I just wanted to drop in and say hello and put forth what's happened with me and my P4P800 dlx thus far....

First, I didn't even start out on the Asus route, I chose an Albatron PX865PE Pro II after reading the shootout review on this site. Liked the idea of the envy sound and actively cooled northbridge. I received the Alby at the end of last week. I originally bought some PC3700 Corsair (2x256) to go with the board. My PSU is a PCPower and Cooling, so there's no shortage of (possibly overpriced) juice. I may have just gotten a bum board or bum bios, but it refused to run the Corsair without errors in memtest using either the 3:2 or 5:4 dividers when over clock speeds of 250mhz. No matter if the timings were all the way loosened up to 8-4-4-3 just as Corsair tells you to do, it's a no go once you get to around 250. On top of that the Northbridge fan started to intermittently buzz like a bumblebee, so much for my idea of active cooling. So the thought of paying $190 for a 600Mhz overclock out of my 2.4C didn't completely sit well with me. Needless to say the Corsair was RMA'd and the board will be tomorrow now that the 'new' mobo is here.

So, the quest started again for a Springdale based board. After reading the shootout(s) and this thread, I took the Asus leap for the first time. Setup went well overall. I flashed to 1008 using the special "exe" based floppy and that went without issue. The only slightly weird end result is that the system refuses to detect my older ps/2 based mouse no matter whether PS/2 support in the 'boot' section is set to "enable" or "auto". So out came a USB mouse I also had and off to the races I went.

After feeling slightly burned by Corsair, I took a look at Kingston HyperX and Mushkin Level II PC3500. The Mushkin Level II uses Winbond BH-5 chips which are supposed to be very good, its advertised timings are X-2-2-2 for rated speed. Anyway, long story short, I ordered 2x512 of the Level II PC3500. So on to the results....

I started out using the 3:2 divider with 6-2-2-2, Mam to Auto, Performance to standard, 1.525Vcore, 2.75 Vdimm. So I started towards 250 where I hit the wall with the Alby and kept on climbing towards the somewhat elusive 275 mark....the result was much better than I was ever able to achieve with the Alby and Corsair PC3700. Naturally the ram is running below rated speed, but this was a starting point.

P4P800 / 275FSB / 3:2/ 2x512 PC3500 Mushkin Level II

So of course the next thought was to get the ram much closer to rated speed using the 5:4 divider. Timing for RAS to CAS needed to be dropped to 3, for 6-3-2-2, with all other settings the same.

P4P800 / 275FSB / 5:4 / 2x512 PC3500 Mushkin Level II

Looking real good at this point

I'm stopping here for now so that I can just play in general with the apps I use. I'll run a much longer series of memtest(s) over the weekend when I'll be away from the pc. Though I think the result will be okay since it was left to run for about 5 hours in each of the above with no glitches.

I've got the CNPS-7000cu on and working. At first the weight and size of it caused some concern, as the process to get it lined up correctly over the supports that slip in the retention mount is a bit tricky at first. A steady hand is a good thing here. I'm not using the fanmate controller to slow it down since it's nearly silent at max speed. I'm not sure if the Asus probe temps are completely accurate, but idle is around 28c / full load 37c - house has central A/C. If these numbers are right, that's dang good in my book for a nearly 1ghz overclock..... Once I get really comfy with the way things are, I will up the FSB again to see if the cpu has anything left. Should be fun trying to find out

Anyway, just wanted to give a thumbs up for the board and give a little info towards the ram deliberations going on.....

I have a question about the AGP/PCI Frequency settings in BIOS for this P4P800 DLX Board. There are 3 manual options in BIOS:

1) 66.66/33.33
2) 72.73/36.36
3) 80.00/40.00

What settings should I use with my ASUS GF4 TI4200/128MB video card. The card is NOT overclocked since I do not know how, but the P4B CPU is overclocked from 2.4Gig to 3.048 Gig approximately and running quite smoothly.

OK...then just for info sake, in what situations would you use the other 2 settings?

BIOS 1009 is final:

1. Do not use Aflash.exe to update BIOSPlease use EZflash or Afusos.exe.
2. Fix Maxtor 6Y120M0 YAR51BW0 Serial-ATA hard disk drive cant be detected.
3. Change DMI Base Board Information to "ASUSTeK Computer Inc.".
4. Revise DMI System Slots information for PCI slots.
5. Update Intel RAID boot ROM to v3.5.0.2568 to support RAID-1 mode(only with IAA v3.5 or later).

Yeah, one thing to do is put the screws in the heatsink before putting it down to be mounted...makes it much easier.

The screws were in before I put the heatsink on. The slightly unique thing is that the screw holes in the aluminum crossbars don't line up with each other. So it was necessary to ever so slightly turn the whole heatsink to get both screws in position to be tightened. Combine that with the heft of maneuvering the thing into position and it was a bit "fun" for the very first install. Now that I've taken it on and off a few times since I had to switch mobo's, no problem.

Just an update for anyone interested. I had figured out that when I messed with my bios and my memory didn't come up with the dual channel message anymore, I could just hit f5 for defaults and it would always come back. I recently found what is actually changing to bring the message back. If I set performance mode to standard or turbo, for some reason (maybe the way I configure my bios) it will not show the dual channel message. If I set it to auto it does show the message. Go figure.

but prescott chips will cost your house! It's not worth worrying about if you can play all your games, and do all your work on a 3.0+Ghz P4 now. WHy do you need faster? I don't see the need. Wait for next year at least

Radeon 9500 pro

The system has never been able to detect that i have an agp 8x card and consistantly in sandrasoft and 3dmark it would be detected as 4x. So in trying to fix it I did the following....

Hi kingofbongo,

On page 2-18 of the ASUS P4 user guide:

"If installing the ATi 9500 or 9700 Pro Series VGA cards, use only the card version PN xxx-xxxxx-30 or later, for optimum performance and overclocking stability."

What version is your 9500 Pro?

My 9700Pro is the first version which is -30 so why would ANY card not work if the first ones are ok? This seems odd to me. I got mine on day 1 of release at newegg and it never had trouble.

oh, it's not that i need it now.. it just would save me the time to upgrade in the future. perhaps a whole motherboard

and as with anything else, they only cost a lot at the beginning.. i would wait of course b4 i bought one.

Hello everyone. I have been building computers for seven years and using ASUS products throughout with never a problem. Anyway, I have a 2.6C P4 with 512K DDR, a WD 120G on an IDE slot and a CDR drive on the other slot with no overclock. I flashed to the final 1009 BIOS version yesterday morning and everything seemed fine. Later on that night I turned the computer on and was checking some settings in the BIOS and noticed my Hard drive and CD-ROM were on the slave settings, even though they were both plugged in as masters and nothing should have been a slave. So I thought that was pretty weird, but should be fixed by a quick reboot. So I rebooted and then all the fans came on, but just a blank screen on the monitor with no HD activity. I figured it was just locked and a couple of reboots would cause the BIOS to reset. Well I tried rebooting continuously with no luck and powering off and on. I finally tried clearing the CMOS as stated in the manual with no luck. Next I tried swapping video cards, RAM sticks and even the CPU and nothing worked, just the same power comes on and all fans spin, but no video or HD activity. I think either the BIOS was corrupted somehow or maybe the whole board is dead. I purchased this board 1 month and a half ago from Googlegear, so I am outside their 30 day return window. I have just emailed ASUS about the problem, but god knows when they may reply. Has anyone ever dealt with ASUS for RMA issues? Or does anyone know if someplace like CompUSA or Best Buy may have a BIOS flasher so I can pull the BIOS chip and reflash it separately? I live in the Jacksonville, FL area if anyone knows of a local store that may be able to help. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Scott

is my memory defective or is there something i can do (other settings...)

these beeps also turns up, when i only install one module, in either slot

thats why i dont think both modules are fault
