I wanted to post something I read and tried from the ABX Forums. It really seemed to help a rather serious issue I've been having. Basically, you go back to BIOS 1.006 and flash it using the executable, then flash each BIOS in order to 1.009. I'm pretty sure they don't mean the beta versions also, I just did the finals on each.

Hi guys, I've recently bought a P4P800 deluxe with a P4 2.8 processor and Kingston KVR400X64C3AK2/512 512MB Kit (2x 256MB) DDR400 PC3200 CL3 ram from newegg.com. From all the detail on the ram, you can all probably guess i have a memory problem. The thing with my system is that it likes to restart a lot. I've tried many things, manually changing the memory timings in the bios, updating the bios to 1.008, swapping modules, and the only result that I came up with is that it works with 1 module at a time, but dual channel screws it up royally. I've ran memtest86 on this about 10 times, and once it came out with errors on tests 5 and 8, but ever other time it has come clean with at least 5 passes. If anyone else has the same memory with their P4P800 please tell me how you set it up so that it's stable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

by the way, i'm also using an Antec 400W case so I don't think power is a problem here, also using a WD 80 gig 7200 RPM master HD and a WD 100 gig 7200 RPM as slave. And a Geforce 2 (gonna upgrade that once I get my system stable)

I noticed this while seeing that the 1009-006 bios is out http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=P4P800%20Deluxe that the specs page on the .de site had no Prescott name. Changing to the US server showed the similar removal http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4P800%20Deluxe&langs=09#.

Now, AT-Motherboards, who has saved or scanned a copy of the original page stating prescott support and would be willing to send it (zip file of all - with pics) to me ? I'd be willing to host it. UPDATE: Found a copy on one of my home machines: My hosting of the P4P800-Deluxe specs page - cache from 7-13-2003

If you haven't yet visited the updated asus page, you may still have it in your computer's cache. This one doesn't anymore. Steps to take in IE 6.0: Go Offline, then type in your address bar: usa.asus.com, push the down arrow to see history for an item that looks like http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4P800%20Deluxe&langs=09 (usa , langs fields may be different) , then highlight, push enter, the page may load from cache or it'll tell you that it needs to connect to get the page (staying offline keeps you from updating the cache).... save web page, complete.

Hehehe.... even more fun for the P4C800 as things haven't fully propagated yet. http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4C800%20Deluxe&langs=09 vs langs=01 version http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4C800%20Deluxe&langs=01

I'm kind of peeved that the information we've been getting about a shipping product has been incorrect for almost two months and the company is changing things and sweeping it under the rug without ever officially acknowledging that they goofed. I'd be fine if the prescott support was something we all assumed because the chipset supports it but the issue is that Asus advertised this as a major selling point and put it in their press releases for these products... an official statement and perhaps a solution is called for.

When i go to asus's site it still says "New power design supports Intel next generation Prescott CPU" after clearing cache.

Anyway, I have a 2.6C P4 with 512K DDR, a WD 120G on an IDE slot and a CDR drive on the other slot with no overclock. I flashed to the final 1009 BIOS version yesterday morning and everything seemed fine. Later on that night I turned the computer on and was checking some settings in the BIOS and noticed my Hard drive and CD-ROM were on the slave settings, even though they were both plugged in as masters and nothing should have been a slave. So I thought that was pretty weird, but should be fixed by a quick reboot. So I rebooted and then all the fans came on, but just a blank screen on the monitor with no HD activity. I figured it was just locked and a couple of reboots would cause the BIOS to reset. Well I tried rebooting continuously with no luck and powering off and on. I finally tried clearing the CMOS as stated in the manual with no luck. Next I tried swapping video cards, RAM sticks and even the CPU and nothing worked, just the same power comes on and all fans spin, but no video or HD activity. I think either the BIOS was corrupted somehow or maybe the whole board is dead. I purchased this board 1 month and a half ago from Googlegear, so I am outside their 30 day return window. I have just emailed ASUS about the problem, but god knows when they may reply. Has anyone ever dealt with ASUS for RMA issues? Or does anyone know if someplace like CompUSA or Best Buy may have a BIOS flasher so I can pull the BIOS chip and reflash it separately? I live in the Jacksonville, FL area if anyone knows of a local store that may be able to help. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Scott

Are you getting any beep codes when you turn it on?

Yep, looks like the website has been edited (again) and Prescott support indicated (again).... maybe they did some more testing.

I got my P4P800 Deluxe motherboard installed and running perfectly. I ran WindowsUpdate, loaded a couple of programs from the Asus CD and rebooted with no problems. Finally, I installed the AsusUpdate and did the BIOS update. Link to the FTP site and download the 1009 version of the BIOS. Flashed it, restarted, entered the BIOS screen, load setup default, saved and rebooted again. That's when it did not POST.

There is no beep from the motherboard and the LED from my monitor turned amber instead of green. I power it down and turn it back on with the same results. I tried clearing the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery and swithing the jumper for the RTC. Still no go.

Anyone has faced the same problem as me? I am so disappointed, I would have thought with the so-called AI feature of the board, it would have at least spared me the blank screen.

Read the guide and use trial and error, and make sure the left and right connections are correctly connected, since they are actually reversed.

Hope this helps.

It helped me. I had sound and didn't even notice they were reversed. I only use the front panel audio for audio teleconferencing which is mono. Still like having things right, though.

Look in the manual and consult the directions for a crashed BIOS recovery.

The instructions on the manual explains how to recover from a crashed BIOS provided if the PC could POST. I can't even get that.

imo the board is a weird one when it comes to booting. i had a problem with posting for a while where it kept doing different things.. then it would just freeze up. i was very close to RMAing the board, 'til i left it sit powered off for a while, then turned it on and it somehow fixed itself. I'm beginning to think the thing is alive..

I used it, worked fine.

I managed to get 1 bootup immediately after the BIOS update. That was when I pressed DEL to get into the settings and loaded the default settings. After I saved and restarted, that was when it just died on me completely.

I tried everything from changing the RAM, video, removing the S-ATA drive, clearing the CMOS without much success.

Worst case scenario, I have to return the board to the vendor and claim a new one. Unfortunately, the wait for a replacement will take me weeks :'(

Ok I think there are some random problems with this board.

I am now getting random lock ups (a month after buying) at STOCK when playing games using 1009 final BIOS. Although I did flash with AsusUpdate (didn't see the warning not to), I think I'm going to try AFUDos when 1010 comes out.

I am running a 2.6 @ 2.6, default voltage, 2 x 512 Corsair XMS 3500 @ 2-3-3-7 (2.75vdimm) dual channel @ DDR 400. A friend suggested it could be northbridge overheating as when he added one of those godawful 40mm screamer fans to his, he stopped getting crashes.

I'm going to run memtest overnight and if it goes ok I will try running with the case open for a while I guess.

i have 2x512 twinmos pc3200 rams, if i use the blue slots i get grafik problems in dif. aplications (3dmark 2003 cpu test1, c&c generals,...)

im not able to overclock at all or use MAM, then it gets even worse

but if i use the black slots on my MB, everything seems normal to me (no grafik gliches) at default MB settings with MAM enabled

could this be a hardware related problem or does someone also have the same problem

becaus in the manual it's recommended to use the blue slots first

have lattest bios v.1.009

I might add that the 1009 BIOS will allow your RAM settings to "stick" in turbo mode. This is great, since it allows me to run my HyperX at 2-2-3-5 with Turbo and MAM enabled, and finally achieve a decent Sisoft score In the prior BIOSes, turning on "turbo" mode meant the BIOS ran you RAM at 2-2-2-5 no matter what settings you chose for RAM.

I think the best way to update the bios is do a bootable floppy and flash in dos....works for me perfectly and everything is running nice. BTW does anyone know what 1010 is going to fix?

BIOS Flashing

I'm really confused now ... my ASUS P4P800 Deluxe arrived today, and I have all BIOS versions in my hard drive, ready to jump to a bootable DOS floppy disk.

My question: I know that version 1008 has a self bios update executable, which should be run. But unpacking the zip from 1009 I only find P4P81009.AMI ... how do I install it? Manual only talks about rom files ... should I install it with AFUDOS? Should I use a given parameter to AFUDOS so it updates the "boot block"? From the link: Question: "When flashing a beta bios using afudos with the /pbnc switch, does it actually reprogram the boot block? The 'b' option supposedly programs the boot block." Answer: "The pre-packaged 100x.exe BIOS's have batch files that are just the afudos with some fancy switches."

Also, since ASUS removed all older versions from web, is it a safe bet to update directly to 1009? (I'm mounting the PC right now, don't know which bios version it cames with)

b4u,
I would install 1008 bios with the executable then flash the 1009 bios per Asus instructions on page 4-3 of the manual, section 4.1.3 (using Asus EZ flash). Hint: You have to rename the 1009 bios file and have it on a floppy.

what are some other good forums with sections devoted to the P4P800 or that have a lot of info about the P4P800?
