Question about AGP: The manual for the p4p800 deluxe states the AGP slot only supports 8X 1.5volt cards. However I've seen elsewhere references that 4x AGP cards are 1.5v and 8x cards are 0.8 volt. I was intending on using a Geforce 3 ti200 (AGP 4x) until I saved some more cash but now it appears I have to buy a new video cards for this motherboard?

Can anyone clear up the confusion? I just spent enough on new components, I don't want to spend $200 on a new video card I know I would be better off in the end, but I was hoping to wait for DX9 to figure itself out.

THANKS

Never read that before about 8x cards being 0.8v. However I do know that some older video cards are 3.3v and will fry your mobo if you stick it in the AGP slot. I believe these 3.3v cards were mainly 3dfx cards and older nvidia and ATI cards, so your GeForce3 Ti 200 should be ok. I have a 4x ATI 8500LE in my P4P800 Deluxe and it works fine.

okay guys, i've had this board for a few months now, and am having some graphics problems with some games... just wanted to ask here, because i am unsure of where else to ask. the problem occurs in several games i play, max payne 2, wolfenstein enemy territory, battlefield 1942, etc. here's what i have:

p4 2.8c
1.0gb apacer memory pc3200
ati radeon 9800 pro
120gb western digital IDE HD
creative labs audigy 2 platinum

the problem is that i'll be looking around in the game, and there will be some areas with blinking "squares" and also a checkerboard of color(s)... i'm not sure what is causing the problem; i've updated my motherboard bios, installed new video card drivers and patched the games. could the memory be the culprit? i bought the apacer memory when i was building the system because i was on a budget and was not planning on overclocking, so i figured it would suffice. does anyone have any advice, or ideas on other things i could try? graphics look great except for that problem, and the games are playable. it's just aggravating that i've got a $300 video card and a p4 2.8c system with a gig of ram, and it's doing this crap. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having problems trying to get my system to work with twin Raptors in RAID 0. Is it possible to configure this board to boot off of two SATA drive's in RAID 0?

I am a newbie and want to build a P4 based system. Stability is my number 1 priority and I have no interest for overclocking. I would appreciate if someone could give me some basic motherboard education. I plan to get a 2.8 CPU and 512 mb RAM. I will keep my old GeForce3 Ti200 video card as well as my WD 120 GB 7200 rpm 8 MB cache HD. I might be interested in a 10,000 rpm SATA drive in the near future.

I understand there are 3 versions of the P4P800: Deluxe, VM and S. Could someone explain the differences between these 3 versions?

What are the differences between the P4P800 and the P4C800?

Is there a way to configure this board to recognize and boot from a pair of Raptor's in RAID O? I've been on this quest for nine hours now and have only read half this thread while trying to get this thing to work. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I am having a problem getting my new P4P800 deluxe to boot. I believe it is a video problem because my monitor activation light never comes on. When I try to boot the system everything seems to power up fine except I get no video. I also get no beeps. I have also tried to narrow it down to the mobo by swapping out components.

I have tried:

2 different PSU's (one known working)
Kingston ddr333 memory and Corsair ddr400 memory
Saphire ATI9800 pro and an XFX GF5900

Does anyone know what the voltage is of these video cards, I can't find this info anywhere, is this my problem?

This is only my second build, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OK, WTF. Im having the exact same problem. Monitor wont activate, tried to different P4s, 3 different ram, pc2100/3000/4000, 2 different agp vid cards & 1 pci vid card...still can't even enter the bios.

Ive started a thread here to see if anyone can help. Lot of awsome suggestions, but still not working.

I finally got mine working. I had narrowed it down to a motherboard/video problem. All of my components were working except the mobo. The problem was that I was not getting a video signal to my monitor. I Stripped it down to essential components and kept trying to boot. After I switched PSU's for the last try for some reason it finally worked, I was about to RMA it. I then started adding components back to the setup one at a time, I now have everything running fine. This is bizare, it is the exact same setup that would not post. the only thing I can think of is that maybe the video card wasn't seating properly, but I had 2 diffrent vid cards in and out of there about 10 times.

Hi guys, I am new to Intel.
I am looking into a system for my friend with P4 3.0GHz combo with P4P800, Crucial CL3 2x512MB PC3200 DDR400.
Since I don't know much about intel mother board, are the Crucial CL3 PC-3200 a good pair with this PSP800?
I don't plan to OC and I know there are better RAM out there, but seems like the Crucial is cheaper.
Also looking for a cheap VCard that has dual DVI for dual LCD with this system.
He is using this system to trade stocks, not for gaming.
Any idea?
Thanks.

Does anyone else get the "Press <ESC> to boot" prompt for 9 seconds after it displays IRQs? At first I thought this might be related to the IDE Timeout being set to 35, but nothing changed after I took it down to 20. Is this what happens if you boot using the Via Raid Controller? I don't use Raid, but I do have my HD on that controller to take advantage of the ATA133. How can I get rid of this prompt as it is somewhat annoying?

Alright, to answer my question above, I believe the "Press <ESC> to boot" prompt only comes up if you turn off the Logo setting in BIOS. Once I turned that back on it went away.

I now only have one annoyance left with this MB, and that is when I reset it via the Reset or Power button (from the BIOS setup, for instance) the video display becomes screwy. It almost appears as if my 9800NP isn't drawing quite enough power. Some random characters appear, everything becomes dim, and once Windows loads there are a few vertical shaded lines.

I'm really not sure what is causing this.... could be MB, Power supply (Antec 350W), or the 9800NP. It is somewhat annoying though. Does anyone else experience this, or know what may be happening? It runs fine outside of this problem... Nothing else would indicate a faulty power supply.

-- Edit: Also, is anyone running 4x256 HyperX PC3500 in dual-channel mode? The DDR400 document doesn't show this as possible. I'm curious if that is just what it recommends, or if you are really locked into only 2 dimms when using HyperX.

Thanks.

I just ordered my first Intel system in 5 years. I chose the P4P800D for my motherboard. How good of a choice is this in regards to future use of the motherboard? What I mean is will it age well with it's features, will it definitely support the newer P4 chips in the next couple of years?

No, at best it may (but probably won't) support the early S478 version of the Prescott CPU but that's it. After that the CPU package changes and a different motherboard will be required to upgrade to those CPU's.

I just built a new PC w/ a P4P800 Deluxe. I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro on a new IDE 80 gig Maxtor drive (fresh out of the box, not partitioned). My DVD drive and hard drive both show up in the BIOS setup. They are connected to the primary and secondary IDE channels (not the RAID controller). Windows begins setup from the DVD drive, but quits shortly with a "Can't detect any hard drives" error. I've tried switching the devices between the secondary and primary IDE channels without any success. I don't have a floppy drive in the machine, so I haven't tried connecting it to the RAID controller and installing the drivers during Windows setup.

Anybody else have a similar problem or know what I'm doing wrong?

Greets all.

I have one of the newer? P4P800 Deluxe motherboards with a passive heatsink on the northbridge that is NOT turned at an angle and says ASUS across it. It works great, but I've run into a problem...bought a Radeon 9800 with a Thermaltake heat pipe on it and the northbridge heat sink is about 1/8" too wide for me to install the card!

Any suggestions on what I could replace this northbridge heatsink with that would provide the same (if not better) cooling performance. Also, beyond the fastening clips, is there thermal tape or adhesive that I need to worry about when removing the 'sink?

TIA!

Joe

Hey all--I posted a similar post over in the general hw area but only got one bite, so I thought I'd try here too...pardon me if you had to read this twice.

I have a stick of Corsair 512MB Cl2 PC2700 and a stick of Samsung 512MB Cl2 PC2700--I want to put them into a P4P800 teamed with a 2.6P4 800--is this gonna cause me pain? Thanks.

I don't know about pain but I wouldn't count on it working to well in dual channel.

What happened with my RAM:

I bought 4 sticks of Kingston 256mb DDR333, they were not matched. I found them real cheap so I figured I would try them. 3 of the sticks were identical but one had a diffrent configuration. Everything seemed to work fine, it even worked in dual channel. But it would not pass memtest86, then I started getting crashes. I took the odd stick out, ran memtest and it passed. So I took the odd stick back and got one that was identical to the other 3 and now the setup passes memtest everytime.

Well, you can then run it without duel channel, can you not? Is that a huge performance gain in real world terms? I just bought the stick of corsair a few months ago chasing a problem with my current machine (1800+ XP), it seems silly to turn around a month and a half later and junk 1G of ram unless there is a very good reason to do so. Thanks for the help, btw!
