What happens is that it restarts and brings me back to the same prodecure. This is really driving me nuts. Can Someone help me please. Following are the configuration for my new system.

Asus P4P800 Deluxe
P4 3.4 ghz w/ 800 fsb
Kingston pc3200 DDR 400 2x512mb
Geforce 5700 256mb
Santa Cruz Turtle Beach Sound Card
Maxtor 7200 RPM w/ 8mb Cache 120 GB Hard Drive
CD-RW don't know
Thermal Take SubZero4G Heatsink
Thermal Take Xaser III Case

Should I change. add, or replace anything around to meet configuration needs

Umm, just a guess here, but are you trying to boot off a harddrive that already has windows installed (i.e. your hard drive from your old mobo) If so, you cannot do this usually. You will usually have to reformat and install windows from scratch.

Sorry if this is obvious to you but from your post I couldn't tell

You're right, I forgot about that. But you can also just repair the Windows installation. Select "Repair" the second time you have the option, not the first, or you'll end up in the recovery console, which doesn't do you any good. Repairing it leaves everything intact, just redetects your hardware, etc.

Yes thanks. I figured that out after i bought new ram to see if my ram was bad. But my ram is perfectly fine and now i have one more extra gig to add. Thanks for all you help

Has anybody had problems with crackling sound with this motherboard? If I use my speakers or plug a pair of headphones directly into the back of the compture my sound pops and cracks. If I were to buy a soundcard would that help with the problem? Thanks for any suggestions

usually onboard sound isnt great on most mobos. Yes, buying a sound card would help. Plus, it helps reduce load on the cpu.

The Soundmax audio onboard the P4P800 is rated fairly high. I would just RMA the board if it's not your speakers and/or the Windows volume isn't set so high that it's causing distortion (even though your speaker volume might be low).

Weird lock-up issue on 2nd IDE Drive

Running a:
ASUS P4P800 DELUXE (bios 1014) & P4 2.8GHZC, SAMSUNG 512MB PC3200 DDR400 x 4 in dual channel with PAT enabled. ATI AIW 9600 PRO with SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2. All IDE ports are full with a 120GB (Master) and 80GB (Slave) Maxtor drives on IDE1 running at UltraDMA100. 2nd IDE contains a LG GCC-4520B 52X24X52 CDRW& 16X DVD COMBO (Master) and LG GSA-4040B 4X (rev 302) DVD burner (Slave).

This entire setup was working perfectly in harmony when I first put this system together in Nov 2003 and has been running rock solid stable since then.

However this weekend I noticed a weird anomaly that caused a hard lock on the entire system that I cannot resolve. When I put a CD/DVD with content in the 2nd IDE SLAVE DVD Drive (LG GSA-4040B), right after it reads the CD/DVD and engages the autorun, the entire system completely locks. When I insert a blank CD/DVD into the drive no issues. The LG CDRW reader on IDE 2 - Master runs fine, no issues.

Things I have done so far to troubleshoot:
1) Replaced LG GSA-4040B with a LG 50X cd drive, it also crashed when it tried to detect contents of CD. (So this proves LG GSA-4040B is fine)
2) Updated board bios to 1014 and LG GSA-4040B to rev 302 same problem.
3) Put LG GSA-4040B as Master and disconnected the LG CDRW. Still crashed.
4) Disabled PAT and removed all memory tweaking settings to default. Still crashed when reading CD/DVD.
5) Installed a new 40/80 PIN ATA133 IDE CABLE, no change
6) Switch DVD burner to the master, no change, still crashing
7) Used Tweak Pro XP to disable autostart on drives, still crashes when I click in explorer to open CD/DVD contents.

Conclusion, I cannot figure out why this is happening. The LG CDRW is still working fine and reads contents fine. I can only insert blank DVD/CD's in the LG GSA-4040B and it burns fine with Nero and other software. I just can't check to read contents after burn or system will crash. What do you guys think? Should I replace the IDE ribbon that came with P4P800 it appears to be fine and connected correctly. I am thinking of removing 2 of the 4 512kb chips and return to 1gig of ram as I know for sure it worked before I inserted the additional ram in Jan 2004.

Any suggestions for next steps would be appreciated as I really do not want to call ASUS tech support. Anyone experiencing similar problems?

Can anyone help me?
should i return the mobo or issit something else?

Try another power supply on the P4P800, too. It's hard to say which is defective, the board or the PSU. My feeling is usually that whatever is making the noise is the component you need to replace.

Joe

I actually found out that it is my R9500Pro that is responsible for the power supply high pitch sound on this particular system. When i changed the graphics card to matrox or something else, the power supply is dead quiet. As soon as i put the radeon back, the power supply makes the high pitch noises again. So with this particular system i know that the graphics card is the one that is causing the PSU to make sound.

On another machine however, using the same 9500Pro and the same true480 is no problem. The power supply makes no noise at all. Which led me to think that it is the P4P800 that is causing the true480 to make sound.

I have not try another power supply yet as i do not have a spare one.
So now the question is... do i buy a new graphics card to solve the noise problem?
becoz i found out that it was the graphics card that is causing the psu to make sound

or

Do i buy a new PSU to solve the noise problem?
even though i found out that both the R9500Pro and the True480 work fine together on another machine.

Now im down to 3 things, the power supply which makes the noises, or the R9500Pro that is causing the PSU to make noises in my p4 machine, or the p4p800 becoz the psu only make sounds if the 9500pro is attached to this board.

Hi guys,

I am kinda stumped here. I currently have 3 IDE Hard drives installed using the P4P800 Deluxe mobo. The first HD is used to run the OS and is connected to the primary IDE connection. I have set up a RAID 1 with the other two drives on the same cable (One Master, One Slave) off the PRI_RAID1 connection. The problem I am experiencing is that the system will not recognize the first HD on every other bootup and is trying to boot to the RAID 1 setup every other time. So basically, upon first bootup, it boots to the first drive with the OS isntalled on it. On the second bootup, it cannot dectect the first hard drive and looks at the RAID 1 drives to boot from, and so on and so on. I have messed around with every RAID configuration in the BIOS and still experiencing the same bootup problem. I currently have the RAIDed drives disconnected but would like to get it going again for my backups. Any recommendations as what I can do to fix this problem? Is it even possible for me to have this type of setup (One drive with OS and two other drives setup with RAID 1 for backup)? Any help would be appreciated...thanks!

You may have done this already, but just to be sure.. have you played with the boot order of the various drives in the boot menu? I had problems booting from my serial ATA drive because it was too far down the list.. One has to adjust the order in the "hard drives" menu, and put the boot drive at the top, then go to boot menu and move that same drive (which will show up now if it wasn't) to the first or second place.. (should show no other HD's..)

Anyone know the right way to connect hard drives in raid0 on p4p8dx? I got 4 hds on the raid controller: 3 120gb, and 1 160gb. I'm raid0 two of the 120g. Both of them are master on the cables. Is that the best way to connect them?

Also I just bought 2 stick of 512mb Kingston HyperX PC4000 from BestBuy. I OCed my 3.0c to 3.57 by increased the fsb to 238MHz. CUP-Z showed the ram r running at 238MHz, FSB : DRAM: 1:1, CL3.0, 4-4-8. Can I make it run any faster? Most of other setting are at auto.

The SoundMax crackling is a known problem with early drivers. Try the newest before RMAing.

I have a lot of problems with optical drives on this system, but it takes the form of errors and downgrades to PIO. I've uninstalled secondary IDE and it'll come up as UDMA for the secondary drive, but after 1-2 restarts it reverts back to PIO only. I thought it was the IDE RAID but I disabled it and still have the same problems (but my HD drive performance improved drastically).

For the RAID problem, did you install the drivers with F5 when you installed the drives? I'm not sure if you need to do that on a non-system RAID setup, but you definitely have to on the system drive. Also, you need to create the RAID volume during boot up at the prompt for the RAID controller. Finally, you should be running one drive on each channel to create the RAID, and make sure they're jumpered correctly.

two questions....

1. Why does this board only support ata 100 on the primary ide?

2. Why does the memory report 320? Why not 333? WTF!!!!!

1. don't worry about it. no drive today can even come close to using ata-100's bandwidth, let alone ata-133

2. dunno

The real question is: How do you setup an ATA 133 drive as your primary drive on this motherboard? It is not recognized by windows XP pro boot/install CD when booting from CD. (Although BIOS sees it, but only on the RAID controller)
???

1. Make sure you hard drive and/or CD-ROM (PATA) is/are set to COMPATIBILITY MODE. This is under IDE SETUP below your drive listings in the BIOS. Also, if you're not using a Maxtor hard drive, you don't have a hard drive with anything other than an ATA-100 interface.

2. When using anything other than a 1:1 FSB/memory ratio, 320Mhz is what the math works out to be. It's not a problem, just ASUS is telling you the truth where other board manufacturer's may having you believing you're running 333. It's no big deal. Just add whatever you're overclocking to this base memory number and that's what your memory speed is (i.e., if you overclock your 200MHz FSB CPU to 213MHz FSB, your memory has gone from 320Mhz to 346MHz). CPU-Z will also give you the real numbers (including core voltage). The P4P8xx series over-volts quite a bit.

on the ATA 133 HDD setup.

I have a MAXTOR 200GB ATA 133. On on the IDE setup, you mention COMPATIBILITY MODE,
but I understood the manual to say use the DEFAULT, ENHANCED mode for XP setup? Of course the manual doe snot describe everything, so your real world experience is where it's at. Can you explain how the IDE setups work and why use the COMPATIBILITY mode in this case?

THANKS!

Hello,
I tried to search for this question and haven't found the answer.
Does the PaP800 Deluxe support the Pentium 4 3.2C cpu?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Probably posted somewhere else, most probably in this 24 page length thread ... :Q

So I have a P4P800, and I want to do a fresh reinstall of the OS.

I have 2 partitions on my 120Gb disk, one for OS and software, and the other for data-only, so I can and will format the first partition and reinstall the Windows XP Pro version.

What I would like to know, is where can I find a link to a check-list with steps on installing XP with this board with no problems ... I ask this because I remember having to do some action to enable USB 2.0 in this board, with this OS ...

There was some kind of safe-guide to a fresh OS install ... (I even found one in some other forum around)

Thank you, and rest assured I'll put the link on my favorites for future reference

1
Do not use old version Afudos.exe to flash BIOS. Must use new
Afudos.exe which is included in zip file to flash BIOS.
2
Using ASUSLiveUpdate to flash BIOS,you need to upgrade ASUSLiveupdate to v 5.22.02 or later before flash BIOS.
3
Please do not use Ezflash for updating this BIOS unless the pre-loaded BIOS is of version 1014 or 1015.

You can boot off the VIA (ATA-133) ports, just load the the driver (F6) when you install Windows
