just bought the P4P800e-deluxe with a prescott 3.2 and 512mb Ocz 3200 DDR, but when it boots in to xp the probe and motherboard monitor both report the cpu temp as 86C - 90C. any ideas? runnin both 3dmark 01 & 03 the temp doesnt move outside this range yet the the motherboard temp is 26C-29C

Boon72: Feel the CPU heatsink. If it's not warm then you've got a bad thermal contact between the CPU and the heatsink - fix it NOW. Could be on crooked or too much thermal goo (or no thermal goo).

If it is warm, then you're probably getting bogus temp readings.

the stock heatsink was warm and was only a copper circle within the heatsink so ive bought a Coolmaster Aero 4 and got the same results, so im thinkin it might be the board now, but ive scowered the net and found nothing about high temps before

you cant idle at 86C - 90C
its just too hot
by then your computer can reboot at any time, including BSOD, etc.
If you can run 3dmark fine without rebooting and the temperature doesnt move
then it would have to be your mobo that dont read the temp properly.

Boon, are you saying the BIOS was using the wrong probes? How did you determine the wrong probes were being used, and how did you correct the problem?

I've moved my post for better visibility.

See my post in this thread

Synopsis of my other thread:
Asus P4P800-E DLX w/2x512 ST Nitro:
1. Will Simpletech Nitro will work in 4X DIMM config? (4x512 stick, dual channel)
2. How about mixing two brands on this board? (Kingston HyperX + Simpletech Nitro)
3. I want to do one of these...
4x512MB Simpletech PC3700 Nitro
-or-
2x512MB Simpletech PC3700 Nitro + 2x512MB HyperX PC4000?

Me too! I've moved my question over to the Peripherals forurm, here.

This is what it used to say:

IDE configuration question - adding a DVD burner: Currently I have a single 40GB HD on IDE 1 and a DVD ROM drive on IDE 2. Should I my put my new burner on 1 or on 2? I recall some years ago reading in these forums that if you put a slow device on the same IDE channel as a fast device then you limit the IDE speed to the slower of the two. Is this still true on modern MoBo's - in particular the P4P800? I'd like to put my new burner on IDE 1, along with the HD, so that I can use both IDE channels for copying from the DVD ROM (shh!) - unless, of course it would slow down my HD.
Thanks,

the bios reports the temp around 34C - 45C, it was only in windows XP that it reported high temps, i found that the probes were reporting the wrong diodes, i switched them to winbond diode 2 in Motherboard monitor and it fixed them all, ASUS probe & Hardware monitor all report the correct temps now.

I noticed this mobo has two RAID controllers, Promise or Intel. From what I can tell the Intel says its 150mbs and the promise says 133mbs. Is that right? What controller do you all use?

I'm running that HS/F on a P4P800. Not deluxe, but same NB. Zalman lists the MoBos that are not compatible here, and none of the the P4P800 line is not on the list. The large HS does come right out to the edge of the board, so just make sure you have a tall enough case that the PS doesn't overlap the MoBo. Don't see your case listsed. I'm using the Antec SLK3700AMB (available for $32 w/o PS here - just select no PS at the bottom) - plenty of clearance.

Great HS/F - very quiet, even at full speed and pretty good cooling. Northwood P4 2.8 @ 3.15 full load 45C. (Plus it's the greatest LOOKING HS/F around, in case you care. ) Go for it!

I had to bend one arm slightly to get mine to fit. Don't overbend, as you need a good connection.

Wow, jesus christ, holy smokes. I just perused through this thread because I have this mobo and look at all the bad reviews and problems! What's going on? Well, a good thing is that I've never had to call ASUS tech support so maybe I had a good batch or something....

Ok, well in case anyone reads this, I would like to say that I have the regular p4p800 mobo (not deluxe). With the intel 865pe, 800 fsb, ddr 400, etc etc.

I have dual channel ram (kingston), 2 sata-raided .... well look at my sig and you can see my computer and everything is running GREAT. Absolutely perfect. I for one, give this mobo a thumbs up.

Right i'm using the antec sonata with the p4p800E DEL. So far so good. It's a nice casing. Though i think i'll probably fit another fan.

So far i've been having quite a few problems with the damn mobo/peripherals. I partitioned a 160 G drive with ranish partition manager and installed win2k on it. One crazy thing that happened was that my drive drops to udma2 whenever a cd rom is attached to the 2nd ide channel. It looks as if they're all on the same channel. Ok but now here's a more interesting development, every program that tries to restart the computer invariably ends up causing an chkdsk on boot and the OS to replace some security ids. At the end of it i get an unable to load agp440.sys problem. Another interesting thing is my sony dru 550a doesn't have it's info displayed on the POST page whereas another cdrom does. Mostly i'm just ticked off that i paid for 3 days of endless debugging and scrounging on the net.

Hi...

Can SATA RAID be use at the same time as ATA? I have a couple of ATA drives and would like to use them in conjunction with a RAID-0 config. Any "real-world" performance gain for using RAID-0 with Photoshop?

MB is the: P4P800

Thanks!!

No problem. Am doing just that. I haven't quantified it and I haven't used Photoshop, but RAID-0 does seem to make a significant difference in how fast progs load - especially in booting or waking up from hybernation. It will also give you better performance if you're working with huge files, as you might in Photoshop. I mitigate the additional risk (two disks are more likely to break than one) by backing up to my ATA drive.
