there's a qualified vendor list in the manual.

i ordered my p4p800 before this was available so i ordered two sticks of Kingston KVR400X64C25/256 based on the vendor list for the p4c800. but the two lists are different. all of the ddr400 on the p4p800 list is cas 3. now i'm thinking i might have to swap my ram. anyone got any idea if my cas 2.5 ddr400 will be ok? can it be run at cas 3? i want a completely stable system.

kingston are selling cl2.5 pc2700 ram for this board but only 3-3-3 or 3-4-4 pc3200 (the list is here).

It seems they always rate memory slow on those. I'm running 2X256 MB Kingston HyperX in dual channel with no issues. Haven't played much with o/c. Right now I'm just running stock everything since I'm having a problem running PCProbe. I don't know if it's just me, but I've always had problems with their probe software. Any recommendation for a monitoring program?

EDIT: I did some testing. I'm running "Standard" in my BIOS and Turbo overclock. First, I'm having problems with programs recognizing my board. CTSPD, and even ASUS probe (crashes on reboot, I can reinstall and it's stable until I reboot). I ran Prime 95, and my temperatures ranged 53-55 C after 15-20 minutes on Prime95. I don't know what the max temperature of a 2.4c CPU is, but tthe monitor defaults to 75 for the alarm.

i'd rather have a stable system than a slightly faster one (i've heard cas latency makes relatively little difference anyway unless you're overclocking) so i'm probably going to swap it unless anyone can reassure me that it's ok. what's the physical difference between cl2.5 and cl3 ram anyway? is the architecture different or are they labelled for cas latency after testing?

slammy - you could try motherboard monitor.

I researched the problem a bit. It seems to have trouble accessing the monitoring data. I tried another program and it gave weird results like 0C for a number of components and 15 V on the 12 V rail. I found if I reinstall Asus Probe after reboot it works fine until I reboot. I have the 1.005 BIOS, and they do have the 1.006 BIOS out, but the auto update indicated the board was too busy.

Well, I've been playing around lightly w/ overclocking. This may be long since I've been writing it up in a word file, so let me know if it's TMI and I'll delete it. I ran PCMark2002 since 2003 did not run on my old PC and it takes a while to d/l. The Prime95 numbers I know have little meaning since they're short duration, but the values did seem at a long plateau at least and I was trying to run several programs at the same time (like this message). The P4P800 ues AI overclocking (performance mode), so it will look a little different. I have a 2.4c CPU and 2X256MB PC3500 HyperX, and a single WD Caviar SE 80 GB as my sole IDE drive (separate SCSI chain).

Overclock: Manual (250 MHz = 3.02 GHz)
Performance Mode: Standard
Memory Freq: Auto
Mem By SPD
CPU 7174
Mem 8127
HD 1260
Prime95 54-56C for 30 min

I can post more results if anyone is interested. Or delete it if anyone is annoyed I'm flexible.

EDIT I tried playing with memory timings and latencies on the 3GHZ o/c, but got a number of errors and corrupted image display. For now I think I'll stick with the last entry until I have time to play some more. I'll update MemTest when I get around to it (at least on this setting). I used memory mode "Enhanced" throughout the testing.

EDIT: Removed extra overclock descriptions.

Hi, I´m thinking about buying the P4P800, and have 2 questions.
1. Will this board support the upcoming Prescott? I read something about the Deluxe Version supporting it, but what about the normal Version? Will I be able to upgrade by simply replacing the P4C with a prescott CPU?

2. Has anyone found a link where Asus gives updates for the list of supported DIMMs?

Thanks in advance

ASUS have this on their site under the official P4P800 sepc. :

- Socket 478 for Intel Pentium 4/Celeron up to 3.2GHz+
- Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology ready
- New power design supports Intel® next generation Prescott CPU!!

As far as the memory list is concerned, I believe all updates are added to the same list that wub posted, it can be found here.
Otherwise it's a case of waiting for reports or asking manufacturers, do you have particular memory in mind ?
I have just asked Mushkin about support for this board so I wil post those results as soon as I hear.

Wow, thats cool so I´ll definetly buy one
I´m thinking about GEIL Memory, 2x 256 or 2x512 I don´t know yet

P.S: Geil is mentioned in the Manual(P4P800) but not in the list for the P4C800, maybe we just have to wait until they put an update for the P4P800 up. But what should the column with number of supported dimms mean, if only one is supported, does this mean no Dualchannel with this brand?

Well I took a look at the Kingston Site, the CL 2,5 512MB parts look really nice. Especially the price below 200 ? for 1GB DDR400 seems good to me . Hopefully they will soon list them at Asus/Kingston. Since they are listed for the P4C800 I´m pretty optimistic.

the p4p800 page is here but there's no list yet. there seems to be something different about this board compared to the P4C800 that they are recommending cl3 ddr400 ram for one and cl2.5 ddr400 ram for the other. i wish i knew what.

I went to pick up my P4P800 (non-dx) and guess what... They were all out of the CPUs... Talk about bad luck...

Two quick questions :
1. Whats the difference between 865P and 865PE?
2. Standard, Deluxe, and VM edition (?) what are the differences?

Answer1 http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.html?i=19401 based on Springdale chipsets, but they are using Intel?s 533MHz FSB (front-side bus)-supporting 865P, not the 800MHz FSB-based 865PE.
Answer2 http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mainboards/display/20030514172512.html (Deluxe means it gains a via/highpoint raid controller)

It is a fast board. I removed my SBLive and found I improved performance significantly. Still, programs like WCPUID and CPU-Z cannot read anything about the memory except it's Kingston and 512 MB total. Even Sysandra gives an error message, but benches my peak at about 32800. I played some more with my most promising o/c, here's the results of some common benches. I also passed Gold Memory with these timings, but Memtest would not boot. I'm not even sure I'm running DCM, but I think I am... It also plays UT2003 with absolutely full graphics almost too fast for my 25ms LCD.

Anyway, some of it's BIOS specific, but these are the specs:

Overclock: Manual (250 MHz = 3.02 GHz)
Performance Mode: Turbo
Memory Freq: 320MHz
Memory Accel: Auto
DRAM Idle Timer & Refresh Rate: Auto
Mem By SPD
Graphic Aperture: 128MB
Rage 3D o/c 380/345
PCMark2002
CPU 7256
Mem 8734
HD 1217
Prime95 57-58C for 75 min
3dMark01 17283
3dMark03 5921

I'm trying out another o/c, which I believe will be my last. I figure at a 5:4 memory ratio I should max out at 270MHz FSB, but I got the dreaded BSOD from that o/c. I dropped it to 260 which gives me 3.16 GHz. I plan to run Prime95 with it overnight to see how it does, it's been running for 25 minutes now and it's reading 55-56C on ASUS Probe. I don't want it above 60, that's the rule. Here's what I have so far:

PCMark2002
CPU 7597
Mem 9072
HD 1242

3dMark03 5965

EDIT: I'm reading about people running 355-360 MHz FSB on this and the P4C800 (as reported by WCPUID). That puts them in the 5 GHz range.

SisSandra reports that it is not assigned an interrupt. Everytime I reboot I lose my o/c settings in Rage3d. I have a board with a s/n ending in -10, so that may be the problem. They recommend s/n >= -30 for the 9700Pro "for maximum overclockability", but I'm not sure if it's the same issue for the AIW. It seems to have a few bugs needing fixed on the next BIOS round, but I think I may have issues w/ my AIW forever as near as I can tell.

Well seems as if the only thing that keeps us from buying is some reliable memory information . Hope this will be available soon, I don´t want to buy 1GB RAM that wouldn´t work.

i emailed asus and kingston about this on thursday but i haven't heard back yet.

i've been told that cl2.5 should work perfectly at cl3 if needs be so i shouldn't need to swap it whatever. still don't know if it's ok to run it at cl2.5 on this board though. i'm still waiting for the cpu so i haven't tried it yet.

kingston's memory configurator: p4p800. p4c800.

apparently kingston normally take a month or so testing so perhaps they're just playing safe for now.

ok i've had a reply from kingston...

...technically there are no reasons why a CAS2.5 /
256 MB memory should not work on this motherboard. However, because it is
up to the Motherboard manufacturer as to how and what they will be
supporting with their Memory controller/BIOS configuration it is their
final decision to support any number of DRAM configurations.

Kingston suggests the use of Parts which conform to the Manufacturers
requirements, therefor we are not able to comment on the use of parts that
may / may not be supported on this System.

KVR400X64C3/256 --> 256 MB; timing 3-4-4
KVR400X64C3A/256 --> 256 MB; timing 3-3-3...

...pretty much what i expected. still waiting on asus.

I am having some problems with my Corsair TWINX1024-3200LLPT 1GB DDR400 XMS3200 Dual-Channel Memory memory that I picked up for this board.

In the BIOS I had it set for Auto on the memory settings and I kept dropping to black background on install of XP or any other software. So I set it to the manual settings by disabling auto in the BIOS and was having better luck.

Well last night I was loading some stuff and I got the BSOD saying that I had a Physical Memory dump.

So now I am wondering if I should set the memory timings to the one shown in Anand's writeup on the board and see if that helps.

Anyone else using this memory with success or could tell me which way I should be heading with getting this system stable. It seems off an on. I have only had this board and memory for a week so I am still experimenting.

Also did you notice the board beeps on startup for each external USB device you have attached. Itwas driving me nuts why I was getting those beeps until I disconnecting the devices.

Thanks

Ok the Board has arrived in the Stores here, question wether just to pick some cl2.5 dimms and try or not, and wether to choose deluxe or not, I think 20 ? more for a firewire port and ata raid is not that expensive.
