Have you used memtest to test your memory?

A few things. You may be thinking of the memory frequency, since timing is either manual or by SPD. I ran up to 217MHz FSB using Kingston HyperX 433 modules and 400 MHz frequency, but I did not try to max it out. Try 320MHz frequency if you're o/c'ing at all. I've had a number of benchmark and reporting issues, including being unable to run Memtest, but it passes Memory Gold testing and rates above 9000 on PCMark2002 so I think it's more a newness of the board issue.

Are you using only one module? It may be related to that, I haven't tried single only dual. Also, dumping the memory is not necessarily a memory issue. I have some conflict between my Logitech cordless keyboard/mouse and cordless gamepad which gave a physical memory dump. It doesn't happen every boot, and if I catch it I can secure the keyboard to stop the BSOD.

EDIT: You can also changed the enhanced memory mode to auto. It actually improved my performance slightly. Consider an upgrade to the 1.006 BIOS also. I'm upgrading tonight.

Actually I just realized that this is the 865E board and not the 875E board. I have the P4C800 Deluxe.

Either way it shouldn't make much of a differnence.

I am using 2x512 chips in dual mode. I do have two external USB devices (zip drive and external HP CDWriter). I am not overclocking the system since I usually just go it normal. I thought I would remove the two external usb devices tonight and set the memory speed back to auto in the BIOS. If that doesn't work I will probaly set the timing to the specs that Anand used in his review.

This is also that new DDR RAM chip that is supposed to automatically sense what the lowest timing speed is and set itself to that setting. Maybe this board can't run this RAM until the next BIOS update

I am running the 1006 BIOS

If I do run MemTest, what setting should I type in. 64 megs or go larger

Thanks

How much does this board overvolt?.I hope its not like the P4B533 .06-.07 overvolt.Slight overvolt is ok with me but nothing drastic.I want to buy this board.

Not sure about memtest, since I just ran it on my last while I was at work at default settings. I think the AI sensing is the same in the Canterwood vs Springdale, but my experience has been setting latency by Spd on this board is superior to my best guesses. Maybe it's a better question for the o/c forum. Check out this review, which used the Corsair LL on the P4P800 and the P4C800.

http://www.hexus.net/review.php?review=556

EDIT: It also explains the vcore on the board better than I could. I was concerned about the memory issues, given everything I've read. I've been running a lot of benchmarks. It's ran stable 10 hours running GoldMemory (but does not run Memtest), Prime 95 for ca 9 hours also with no errors and gave temps of 55-56C (CPU Max 2.4c = 74C). I think I've solved all of the major issues (including the 9700Pro one), and now it's just BIOS upgrade problems. I think this is impressive, maybe I'm wrong, but it gave 5067/5091MHz memory bandwidth on Sis Sandra. I really am suddenly quite pleased with my buying experience.

Well I just saw that BogToe uses Twinmos RAM in his P4P800 deluxe Review so I´ll just pick this, if the lists at Asus are not updated fast.

Ok just wrote a mail to TwinMos about the compatability with P4P800 heres the reply:
--------------------------------
We have tested our memory on ASUS P4C800 (Interl 875), and have
excellent performance!
your P4P800(Intel 865) is familiar with P4C800 (Dual DDR400 ,
and FSB 800)

I believe that you will have perfect experience with our memory
on ASUS P4P800, please choose our memory, thank you!

Best Regard

William Kuan

----------------------------------

I think this is the bit of information I needed to decide for them, the answer was there in about 10 minutes, thats what I´d call good support

My Kingston HyperX PC3500 runs like a banshee but it does have some issues undoubtedly.

I have an ASUS P4C800 Deluxe. When I boot up, the bios beep twice, two short beeps. The systems runs great so far, only had it for a few days. I am running the Kingston Memory, 1 gig (2x512) at 2.5. Does anyone else have these beeps, is this a parity error or is the bios suppose to beep twice?

P4C800 Deluxe
P4 3GHz-800MHz
1 gig kingston 2.5 (2x512)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
2X36 Gig WD Raptor 10,000 RPM RAID 0
WD 120 gig ata 100
....

Thanks,
Tom

hey guys just reading a few reviews on the 865pe chipset and it seems that this board performs much better then all the other 865pe boards and most 875 including the Asus 875! Does anyone know why? Ive read somewhere that its the bios and the way its optimized, but why would asus make their 865pe board faster then their 875 board?

Any comments or input will be appreciated since im looking in to getting this board.

UPDATE: apparently the ASUS P4P800 does support PAT or some sort of Memory Acceleration to push performance to levels only seen on the 875 board. Here is a link from OCWORKBENCH stating just this.

sounds good catss

does anyone actually have this board and found this feature to confirm?
Also can anyone tell us how it performs and what memory they are running and ofcourse post any problems.

thanks heaps

Look forward to knowing how you got on catss. I am possibly looking to get similar setup.

Here is my email conversation with Mushkin for anyone that has been considering their memory, albeit a tad vague:

Me-
Hi, can you recommend the memory below for the ASUS P4P800 Intel 865PE motherboard.
256MB PC3200 222 - Black Hi Perf Level II
Do you plan to test this board in the near future ?
Mushkin
Hi, right - you want the DDR400 - but get two pieces to take advantage of the dual channel hyper threading
512MB PC3200 Level2 Dual Pack (2x256MB) $ 150.00 or
1GB PC3200 Level2 Dual Pack (2x512MB) $ 270.00
Me
Does this mean you would recommend it, i.e. you have tested compatibility and are certain it will work ok on this motherboard ?
Mushkin
Hi, We do not have this board in house, but have tested that chipset:
listed on the DDR Mainboard qualification page link at bottom of DDR pages
Intel D865PERL "Rock Lake"

The Intel D865PERL "Rock Lake" works great with the Mushkin PC3200 and PC3500 DDR DIMMs. Intel allows access to the BIOS settings to manually specify the DDR frequency and latencies. 2:2:2 latency settings may not work in DDR400 mode, at least not with any DIMMs we have seen so far (including competitor products). CAS-2: tRCD-3: tRP-2, however, works flawlessly.

So, make of that what you will. Personally I would be inclined to get some. The only dilemma I have is wether to go with 2x256mb Mushkin Level 2 or with 2x512 TwinMOS w/Winbond chips. The cost is about the same but will I be better with a gig of ram ?

Performance you get from cutting an extra memory cycle to the performance you get from adding another 512mb is not comparable, at all.

I actually got higher performance setting PAT to auto rather than enabled (like an 8% improvement). That does not bode well, but on Sys Sandra I'm way higher in performance (well, significantly anyway) than their listing for an 865 with PC3200 DCM. I'm also faster than their highest listed CPU, the 3.06. Windows just kinda pops up, what a change from my PIII-850. Time to change the snail avatar?

ROTFLOL. So Asus found a way to get PAT to work on the 865PE chips that intel couldn't qualify at 875 (with PAT). As someone who just purchased the P4P800 deluxe, I've got a huge smile on my face right now (especially after watching the P4C800 owners rave about their boards).

Hi.

I?m planning on purchasing either the P4P800 or P4P800 Delux, or maybe even the ABIT IC7. I?m a computer newb and have a few questions I hope someone can help me with:

On the Asus website (official, of course) the specifications for the P4P800 (non Delux) state:

Expansion Slots
1 x AGP8X (1.5V only)

And for the P4P800 Delux:

Expansion Slots
- 1 x AGP 8X/4X (0.8V, 1.5V only)

Can someone explain the difference to me?

I thought AGP 3.0 meant it supports AGP 8X, but is also backwards compatible with AGP 4X mode. The question here is: does 1.5v mean it uses a 1.5v connector, but works with a 0.8v-signaling rate for the 8 transactions per clock cycle? As far as I know, octal data rate (ODR/8X) requires the reduced 0.8v-signaling amplitude. Meaning that I should be able to get the benefit of 2.1GB/s bandwidth, with a RADEON 9500, right? Or does 1.5v mean I?m only limited to running this card in AGP 4X mode? Either that, or the P4P800 (non Delux) doesn?t support the older AGP 4X, even though it states in its overview section that it does support AGP 3.0. Or maybe I?m just nuts and don?t know enough. I?m asking these questions because I don?t need FireWire or IDE RAID, and can save $34 AUD with the non Delux. But if I can get the benefit of AGP 8X, and the fact that it?s made in Taiwan, rather than China, I?m willing to spend that $34.

Also:

If anyone has the non Delux board, does it also support PAT? Or the ?Memory Acceleration Mode??

I?m either going to purchase Cosair 512MB TWINX-3200 (400MHz), 2x256MB, CAS2; or two sticks of Kingston KHX3500-256, CAS2. Cosair is more expensive, and I?m not sure if Kingston comes with heat spreaders. Any recommendations?

Any other recommendations would be great. I?m just your average desktop user who also plays some games, don?t need it for any high end applications.

Just a little rant, but has anyone else noticed that Asus has a knack for stating confusing and contradicting information? I noticed that here, http://www.asus.com/news/2003/20030521.htm, it says that the Delux version supports ECC, yet in its specification it states ?PC3200/2700/2100 non-ECC DDR SDRAM memory?. Or does it just mean it can work with ECC modules, but the BIOS doesn?t support that function (not that I?d really use it, unless I had stability problems with certain tasks?). It?s becoming a headache to shop for mobos?

Thanks in advance for any help, and mostly, thanks for a great resource!

I wonder if I can run my 'old' p4 1.6ghz cpu with this board?
How does dual channel memory works? I have 2 x 256 and 1 512mb, should I enable that?

thanks alot.

@shinobi:

As desktop user without much interest in overclocking, the kingston dimms will be the choice for you. I think therefore the Corsairs are way to much, besides the corsaira are twice the price of the Kingston
