It's stable & fast at stock and for light overclocking but it's not really an overclocking beast. I have a 2.4C that gives me prime errors @ 260 fsb... I'm pretty sure the chip can do more since I've seen people with the same codes getting past 285. But, I didn't know if it was the board or the cpu, so I borrowed a 2.4b SL6RZ from a friend. This chip can do 190fsb all day long but in my p4p800 it crapped out at 170. Wouldn't even post. I upped the voltages, backed down the ram timings, tried single channel, turned off every performance enhancing tweak and still didn't get past 170. (All of this using the 1007 final bios btw)

But, if you can find a stable fsb and turn performance to turbo and turn on MAM... it does fly. With my 2.4C @ 3.12, my ti4200(300/600) got up to 14880 points in 3DMark2k1. Overall a nice board but won't OC like the top dogs. It could just be my board though. Who knows.

285FSB, but it gave a Prime95 error. I didn't play with overvoltage at all.

you can still use the VIA/Highpoint - RAID - that has RAID 0, 1, 0+1, and JBOD. Unless you really need Serial ATA.

that's the thing..i want to use the intergrated raid and stay away from third party controllers esp via. plus i don't want to get the deluxe version just for raid 1 if the non deluxe will have it later.

Can someone please clarify something for a newbie? I'm just wondering when people are saying use 5:4 or 3:2 ratio, are they talking about the "DRAM Frequency" setting in the P4P800 bios?

Even Ram_Guy who is the Corsair rep isn't as confident in his memory working with this board as you are.....what's your secret??....LOL..... Well in my opinion it's stupid to pay premium price for Corsair memory and then scale the settings back just so it works with this board. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! By your logic, the Apacer memory which is $76 a 512Mb stick vs $120 a stick for Corsair and considerably slower than Corsair, would give the same performance to the average person. That's exactly my point. Why buy lightning fast memory and then run it slower?

Does anyone know how the turbo mode works? My system is running a Northwood 2.0 at 2.66 Ghz. With turbo mode on it runs the memory at 133 Mhz 2-2-2-5 by SPD. My sandra score is in 2711 Mbs. That seems pretty fast for DDR266. But manually tuning the memory or going higher than 133 FSB drops performance. What's going on?

turbo mode enables some more efficient clock cycles I think. I believe thos is how you enable PAT

The weird thing is why turbo mode turns off when the bus speed is higher than 133. When the FSB is at 140, I get 2.8 Ghz. However, the memory registers at 175 Mhz and the performance is on the same level as running 133 FSB.

Isn't XMS 3500 supposed to run 2-3-3-7 in the P4P800? I'm hoping future BIOS releases will allow 2-2-2-6. -- at DDR 400.

Wow, at default voltages, I was running 2-2-3-6 (4 delay, 3 is the RAS to CAS) at default voltages 1.006, then installed the 1.007 bios (which is its own fun, the 1007 and 1006 copy can't fit on the same floppy disk... download afudos.exe - not AFLASH.exe , dos diskette, run the command afudos /iP4P81007.ami (the extension is important - though not important with output of the bios backup/copy)) and I'm getting much farther in the 2-2-2-5 (4 delay) at 2.75 v on the same Corsair PC3200LL in goldmemory's test... letting it run overnight. CPU is a 2.8C and mobo is the deluxe.

[edit] didn't work, timing relaxed to 2-2-2-6 at same voltage. Ran for 8 hour night without problem.

Help. Can't overclock my P4P800 non deluxe!

I've got a P4 2.4C / P4P800 non deluxe / 2 x Corsair XMS-3500. I can overclock fine till around 215Mhz with CPU External Frequency 215Mhz, but anything above that my system won't boot, and I get the message "Overclocking Failed" in the POST screen. I've tried using DRAM Frequency 400/320/266Mhz and none of them post. I've set Performance Mode to Standard and Turbo, I've upped my CPU vcore to 1.675 and DDR Voltage to 2.75 but still no post!

What could be the problem? I'm afraid to push the voltages higher in fear that it'll fry. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?? I've bought all the recommended components and it's not working! Could it be my HSF? I'm using the standard intel HSF.

I've also tried various DRAM timings and also tried it on by speed. Please help!

2.4 is still pretty fast, don't you think?

I suppose. It's just a little disheartening to hear all these stories of great overclocks, and me not being able to get past 2.5Ghz, especially after spending double the amount to get expensive RAM. You never seem to hear about the unsuccessfull overclocks, so these forums kinda paint a skewed world of perfect overclocking. I guess I'll have to live with the fact I got a dud . But if anyone else has any ideas - please suggest away!

Set your Memory Frequency to 320MHz, Memory Enhancement to Auto, and keep Turbo on for now. I'd start with memory timings by Spd and auto setting on the voltages. You should hit 250 no problem, probably top out at around 265.

My Benchmark at 285 FSB (since link didn't work, sorry)
CPU 8277
Mem 9174
HD 1115

Thx

Well, I'm officially convinced that my Geil PC3500 is just not going to work with this board.

BIOS 1007
vCore @ Auto
vAGP @ 1.6 (per ATI suggestion)
vDIMM @ 2.75
CPU @ 200FSB
DRAM @ 400
Timings @ SPD; 2,3,3,7 (per specs); 2.5,3,3,7; 2,4,4,7; 2.5,4,4,7; 2,3,4,7; 2.5,3,4,7; 2,4,3,7; 2.5,4,3,7
Performance Mode @ Standard
MAM @ Auto

All attempts eventually end with a fatal exception OE error or a hang in Sandra.

Here is something weird. I'm running a Visiontek Xtasy 9500 Pro (board revision ends 00 despite the fact that Visiontek JUST RELEASED this card). I can't use the "Built by ATI" drivers (I get a message that my Radeon card is incompatible with my current hardware and that some of the advanced rendering features of the card have been disabled). So I'm using Catalyst 3.1 drivers as provided on Visiontek's support page. The system works pretty much beautifully (ie, I don't have fatal exception errors) when the card is running on Windows standard VGA drivers in Windows 98. I also get some garbling of the Windows Boot Screen prior to loading the desktop. I'm wondering if it really is the card that is causing me problems. But I've never heard of a VGA card causing fatal OE exceptions...

Any thoughts or suggestions?

it happens trust me. i have the asus ti4600, and i have to use the nvidia stock drivers. when i use the asus drivers i get blue screens of death quite often while playing games. and when teh blue screen occurs, the name of the dll it mentions is always asusXXX something or other.

Bump. I've seen some reviews and few testimonials as to it being a good overclocker, but I'd like to see more before I come to a conclusion...

Will this help or hurt(slow down) my board "supports for 4 modules inserted into the blue black slots as two pairs of Dual-channel memory configuration" this comes from the asus site.

Am I better off with 1 or 2 dual-channels running? In regards to Kingston memory 4 @ 256mb
max 3500@512mb or 3200@1 gig.

Thanks

I'd like to find out the answer as well. If I want 512MB should I go for 1 X 512 or 2 X 256?

I've got a 2.4B (at 160 FSB right now.. haven't tried any higher.. yet), GEIL PC3500 2 x 512mb, P4P800 Deluxe bios 1007.

It only lets me select up to 333 mhz in bios.. what's up with that, its it the P4 B processor? Also, how do I tell that dual-DDR is enabled? I have Sandra, but can't find it anywhere.

My sandra bandwiths come out pretty good, 4024/4004, not sure what I should be hitting with dual PC3500 though. I tried MAM, but system hangs. Can't tell where, but before I can log into windows. I only tried MAM with the memory in the Black banks; switched it to blue and couldn't tell much difference from my BIOS or Sandra.

I could be way off, but for quad pumped 160MHz FSB = 640MHz
640/533*320=384MHz Ram Speed
If you tried 400MHz frequency
640/533*400=480MHz >> 433MHz

You can either drop your FSB to 133MHz to run your memory at 400MHz, or increase your FSB to 166 with running at 320MHz to give you 400MHz RAM. My Sis Sandra benches 4850 w/o any o/c, runs over 5000 on o/c.

All right, I've read all of this thread through at least once, and most of it moreso, but I'm still haven't a lot of trouble deciding what the best ram to buy with this board is. I want to get a gig, and I want to be able to run at the spd settings (ala hexus.net). Any suggestions? I'm planning on getting one of these boards and a p4 3c...and a 9800...and then basking in geeky glory.

ForbiddenDoughnut, I haven't heard anyone reporting problems with Kingston HyperX PC3500 modules ... and they're not terribly expensive. Others are welcome to chime in on that. It seems that the 512 mb memory modules are a little more picky than 256. For SPD running, I _wouldn't_ suggest corsair 512 mb modules (at the very least, they seem to need a voltage bump)... they are finicky with this board. That being said, my Corsair XMS PC3200LL 512 mb module seems to be running ok in this board with a 2.75 v bump (actually doing 2-2-2-5 at the moment (Update: GoldMemory error when trying for 2-2-2-5 at 2.75 volts, 2-2-2-6 at 2.75 ran for 8 hours, no errors yet) with the 1.007 bios (1.006 bios was not happy with SPD). If you absolutely have to have Corsair, get the PC3500 stuff.

I think buying PC3500 HyperX is the thing to do.... but it's tricky to find in stock at many places (newegg for example).
