I ordered the Apacer 512mb PC3200 memory from NewEgg for $79 each with free shipping. The Asus list shows the Apacer is fully compatible with the board.

both sticks should be samsung but one says xerox and the other ami. i bought them at different times but i would have expected them to say samsung... guess either they arent or that samsungs just buys memory and puts thier tag on them.

anyway as long as they work waiting to get some money and for you guys to figure out the best memory to get for a 800 cpu then i will buy hopefully by then a 3 gig or higher P4 and atleast 400 drr. though by then ddr2 might be out and about. never ending story

I don't see any difference in the two chips listed, they both have the same model number. I think that they just made a mistake in the name of one and generated a second listing. I would take the one with the free shipping.

Now I can see why you're "shueless" if you shop at CompUsa. They are the most overpriced place I know. I suggest Googlegear.com as they provide free 2nd day air shipping on all their stuff and you pay no tax. I purchased a lot of things from them and no problems NewEgg is ok but they take too long to deliver and rip you off if you want 2nd day shippng for $12 over FedEx saver rates which are included on select items. They also charge 15% for restock on returned items. Just my opinion.

My P4P800 MB is up and running. (I will not overclock it until I have proper cooling).

Here is what I have in my system:

Nanya PC2100 DDR 512 MB (My Kingston PC3500 will arrive in a few days)
Gainward GF3 Ti200
WD 40 GB HDD, Maxtor 120 GB HDD
Adaptec 2930 SCSI card running a Plextor 12/4/32 CDRW
Pioneer DVD player
Pioneer DVD-RW 105
Audigy 2 oem running Creative DTT2500 Digital speakers
AverTV Studio (FM/TV/PVR card)

So far everything is running fine except for 1 thing. Everytime I boot the mb gives me 2 quick beeps. I thought it was supposed to only beep once? Other than that everything is normal.

He asked for a good "retail" place. That is why I suggested Fry's and CUSA.
When I buy my computer parts I usually just check on PriceWatch. If I must go to Fry's or CUSA to buy something ASAP I get employee discounts for both places.

Thanks a TON for the reply! It really clears my mind now knowing my computer is 100% okay. I have a USB KB and Mouse.

Hi there.
What temps are you getting there on your boards.
I have a 2.4C @ 2.9ghz and according to Asus Probe it says it idles at 29 and reaches the high 40s under strain.
Can that be right?! it all seems a bit too low to me.
Oh thats with stock vcore and stock HSF.

I got this board ( P4P800 Deluxe) last week and am running my "old" 2.53B on it until I get my 3.0C. I'm presently running an AVC Sunflower for cooling. I also have Thermaltake's Aquarius II that I ran with my Gigabyte 8SQ800 mb. I'm now concidering a Zalman CNPS7000-CU. Does anyone know if this beast will fit on the P4P800 and is it the best choice out of the beforementioned cooling options?
TIA

I have the Zalman 7000 on my P4P800 Deluxe and it fits fine. Plenty room actually. It cools better than anything I have had including my MCX4000 Swiftech with a 80m fan. Plus it is SUPER quiet even on high speed. Get it. You won't regret it at all. My temp is 29C/29C (cpu/mb) as I type. Highest it has gone was 42C running Prime95.

alrighty then, I guess I'll go for it. Is the weight factor anything to be concerned about? I know my Swifty MC462 weighed a ton but at least it bolted to the mb. I'd hate to have it go crashing down on my Hercules 9800 Pro...

Elvis,

It's a heavy buger but the stock retention unit will hold it if you're not moving/carrying your case around to LANs. If you are then www.kdcomputers.com and a few other places sell beefed up bolt-on retention units for that. $3-$6....

First thing your link doesn't work. The next thing is that they picked the IS7 Abit board as best value.

This is what was said in the review.

"After much discussion we finally decided that the ASUS' P4P800 Deluxe is the best mid-range Pentium 4 motherboard currently available on the market."

They voted the Abit board "Editor's Choice".[/quote]

I repeat, they picked the Abit IS7 as the "best value". That means bang for the buck board not "mid-priced". What are you argueing about? The IS7 has the same features as the P4P800 and is on sale at newegg for $99 right now with free shipping. That was my only point since YOU brought up the article and there were 2 OTHER boards recommended besides the P4P800 in the article. For instance the Gigabyte was rated best "deluxe" 865PE based board. You make it sound like the Asus P4P800 is the only board they recommended. That is just not the case. Just being fair here.

Don't take this the wrong way, but this is not the tech forum. Perhaps some of your numerous hardware questions should be directed there. I count 10 of your posts on this page alone. This is a forum to discuss the P4P800 board and issues directly related that might be of interest to "EVERYONE" considering or owning this board as I understand it. For instance Memory compatibility is an issue effecting everyone who buys the board. Your using PC2100 with a PC3200 board and asking if you will "have any problems" is just a totally ridiculous question and shows you have no experience in this area. Sure you will have problems. It was not designed for PC2100 ........Duh!!! That's like asking if I put maple syrup in my gas tank will I have any problems! My suggestion to you is stop writing so many pointless posts and start "reading" the posts other people have written and perhaps you will learn something and save yourself embarassment and have your questions answered in the process. Just my opinion once again.

thats harsh and sorry your wrong. the board clearly states that it can use ddr 266 or 2100. also if the tech issue is concerning this board i think this is the place for it to be - most people will read this and see any fixes or problems along with it.
Maybe the guy isnt an expert like yourself, i am by far a expert but i am also no novice and i take what you wrote to be harsh. give the guy a break and anyone else too. there are mods here that can direct posts to other forums if they are in the wrong area.

now with what you said and my replay - neither one should be on this board. but i dont like people taking shots at others.

sounded strange to me too but i tried it. got same message when they were in the other colored slots so doent matter i think. atleast now it is easier to get to my memory if needed since my video card blocks the first slot.

We come to that conclusion by testing both black and blue slots with both B and C chips. The black slots were more stable and ran with less vdimm on B chips where the blue slots worked best for C chips.Check out this thread. Its a long post and this is a link to page 13 and you can read on from there. We didn't just slap in ram in both slots and say they both work.We ran Prime95 overclocked on each set of slots with both chips and noticed this. Also, for people having problems not being able to overclock on this board like they did with their previous board with a "B" chip. You "MUST" flash bios 1006 from floppy and not skip this bios update cause it updates the boot block or something.Don't go from 1005 to 1007 bios. The 1006 has to be flashed. There is a hole between 166 and 199.You will notice you can boot to 165FSB but no matter what 166FSB will fail. This is if you skipped bios 1006.

Aye! Aye! I second that. It is the gospel truth. You must flash 1006 and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS inside the zip file.

ok i went from 5 to 7 and didnt put in 6 since i thought each bios keeps the best out of the past ones. so what am i missing by skipping 6? i didnt quite follow what they meant. as far as i can tell i am running at 166 fsb and if not how can i tell?

Skipping bios 1006 can give you problems overclocking between 166 and 199 FSB.Just put 1006 on a floppy and follow the instructions. After you have flashed 1006 and you can go straight to 1008.004 (the latest) if you like.
