Okay... every time I try manual memory timings I get this message after reboot:

'Radeon 9700 Pro Samsung DDR Corrupt BIOS B848.01220'

EDIT: It's supposed to be 'Radeon 9700 Pro Samsung DDR BIOS B848.01220', then on the next line it's 'Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS recovery...' etc, etc. (Sorry about the mistake. I wonder if it means that the video BIOS is corrupt, or if it means the motherboard BIOS is corrupt. Strange thing is that everything seems to be fine after I clear the RTC RAM, but I get the same problem again when I try to do agressive memory timings)

The video card I have has a part no. with the last two digits being -30, so this card should be okay with the p4p800. The memory on the card has the '2A' code, meaning that they are the Samsung 2.86ns modules. Anybody here have any idea why this happens? I don't see how manually setting my memory timings could effect the video card. From what I've read, I know you can get 2-2-2-5 memory timings with the KHX3500s, so if anyone here has successfully achieved this with the same ram, could they post their settings? I tried setting the DDR Reference Voltage to 2.65, didn't help.

-3DMark Score: 4759
-Fill Rate: (Single-texturing) 1400.8 MTexels/s
-Fill Rate: (Multi-texturing) 2166.0 MTexels/s

3038MHz, (FSB:RAM - 217:217), SPD (2.5-4-4-8), MAM Enabled, 3DMark03 Default Settings

Do these scores seem about right? (I won't OC the video card)

turn performance mode to standard and turn MAM to auto and try 2-3-3-5 and then drop to 2-2-3-5 if all is well. Then go 2-2-2-5 if it is good after 2-2-3-5 is good. May try 2-3-2-5 too

Hi,

When choosing PC3200 Dual-DDR modules for the P4C800, is it best to take "ECC" or "non-ECC" modules? Anybody can explain what the difference is? Thanks!

PS: anybody using TwinMos PC3200 sticks with the P4P800? In an AnandTech article about memory they said TwinMos is CAS 2.5, but if you check there site they say they there PC3200 modules are CAS 2, see here:

What about this?! If they are indeed CAS2, then they would be one of the best PC3200 modules at the best price, not?!

Mike.

NON-ECC. THE 865PE CHIPSET DOESN'T SUPPORT ECC!

Also, the TwinMos DIMMs that AT used may have been 2.5, while these DIMMs from TM may in fact be a different, C2 version. Kingston, for example, makes different varieties at C2, 2.5, and 3.

As for the install order, that's the way I plan to do it tonight (just got XP, starting all over again).

For the BIOS, Asus has a program that they call AFUDOS. It is exclusively for Asus 865/875 boards. You need it to flash to 1007 and 1008. For 1006, you need to download the specific install program and ROM file that Asus recommends. You can't flash it normally. And don't forget, per the other posts here, that you can't jumo from 1005 to 1007 or 1008! You need to do the 1006 flash separately to get the CrashFree BIOS feature. From there you can go straight to 1008. And yes, you should DL 1008 and use it, as it is more stable.

Um, are you sure that you haven't actually corrupted the BIOS on the 9700 card? I would take this up with ATI tech support. You don't want to screw around with the a corrupted VGA BIOS, because that could cause big problems. Also, ATI recommends setting vAGP in BIOS to 1.6 instead of auto. Definitely made a difference for my 9500Pro. And turn off MAM. I'm running the HyperX 256MB DIMMs at 200FSB and 2-2-2-6 without MAM. At 217 (433DDR), the KHX modules are rated for 2-3-3-7. So I would try that setting first. If you are still getting the corrupted BIOS message, then I think you need to get ATI's best suggestion as to a fix, and possibly even DL and flash a new BIOS onto the card. (yikes)

Yes
Are people getting roughly the same OC's with the non and deluxe? I have an Abit IC7, but it's not compatable with my ram above 250mhz fsb. I have Twinmos/Winbond CH-5 chipped ram. I can boot stable upto 225fsb @ 1:1. But once I hit 250mhz fsb and goto 200ddr using 5:4 for the memory it wont boot. It's a known problem =/

Hello,
Well first of all, nice OCs everyone, some nice stuff around here.

I have a few questions about this board :
Today i got it and tested it with 2x512 DDR400 (generic memory, i think it's from ADATA). How do i know if it's working using dual channel DDR ? I have placed them both on the blue dimms and when the putter is booting it's says it has 1024 mem, shouldn't it say 512 with dual mode enabled ? Also in windows, it says it has 1024 of RAM, shouldn't it say 512 only ? (can someone mail me a pic of the bootscreen at vbreysse@hotmail.com)

My BIOS is 1005, planning on upgrading to 1007.

Also what programs do you use to see the type of ram and the settings of it under windows ? (CAS, frequency, etc...). I plan to overclock once i have all the tools to test it and gather the correct information. Anyway thxs in advance and sorry for the lame questions. I will post my OC results as soon as i can.

CPU : 2.4C
Mem: generic (ADATA DDR400) 2x512
Mobo: P4P800 /Bios 1005

Hi,

Just wondering, but if you would accidentally install ECC modules (if you wouldn't know it for instance), would this give problems or would they just run fine? You say the 865PE doesn't support ECC modules, but does that also mean it is incompatible with?! I would like to know this in case I would have no choice or it would be difficult to verify this. I always thought that ECC was an extra feature, so perhaps it would just ignore it, or isn't it like that and won't ECC modules simply not work (well) with this chipset?

PS: btw, what does "ECC" stand for? What does it mean? Does ECC have any benifits?

PS2: What about the P4C800? Does it also only support non-ECC modules?!

Thanks!!

Mike.

Mobo: P4P800 /Bios 1005

Dual channel is cumulative, meaning that 2 512MB DIMMs will still be registered both in BIOS and in Windows as 1024MB. If they are both in the blue slots, then you are in dual channel mode.

Use CPU-ID (CPU-Z) to verify Dual-channel mode and also the details on your RAM (timings, brand, etc). http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Remember to go from 1005 to 1006, then to 1007. You can't skip 1006 as it updates the boot sector ROM.

I mistakenly ordered PC3200 ECC Ram from Crucial for my P4P800 Deluxe. As I was not in a position to return them, I tried them on my board. It seems they are working fine. Only the ECC feature is disabled. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the tips Revolutionary )

I will try to DL 1006 from asus FTP later tonight *sighs* i'm still at work.

I did some light OC this morning, with everything on auto, and just changing the FSB, i got the CPU to go at 2.7 and then it would not even boot. I had to clear the cmos twice and reset the bios...

Not very optimistic for tonight :S (my guess is that i have some pretty bad cheap mem).

I have an External Maxtor USB2.0 80gb hard drive which is giving me trouble with this board...

When I plug it in while booting, it gives me an error right before it starts loading Windows XP saying something about incorrect boot media or something like that. So I unplug it, restart and then I can get into Windows. If I try plugging the USB hard drive in while in Windows it gives the system trouble: the mouse moves in jerks and everything takes forever to do. Slows everything down insanely. I have to reset it with the USB hard drive unplugged to get it back to normal.

I just got the motherboard.. I freshly installed Windows and I updated to the latest service pack.

Oddly, the bios of this motherboard has parts written for just such devices.. and it does detect it correctly as an external USB storage device... I know the drive works because it was working fine on my other computers. Any suggestions? Right now I'm going to try updating the bios to 1006 and then 1007, because I'm using 1005 right now. I just hope that helps. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

-- edit --

I dont know if it was the update to bios 1007 or not, but the drive is working fine now. I had the incorrect boot order of drive devices in bios *blush*.. i hope those were new options from the new bios and not just me missing it. altho that could be very likely seeing as how i got 4 hours of sleep

Oh well, let this be a lesson to you all... if it doesnt work, update your bios! (or get more sleep)

Thanks for the tips. I have it running at these timings now:

CAS# Latency: 2.0
RAS# to CAS# Delay: 3
RAS# Precharge: 2
Precharge Delay: 5

MAM is enabled, and even when it is set to auto--changing RAS# to CAS# Delay to 2 will give me the BIOS problem again. What do other people here get when overclocking fails? Has anyone else got the same message I get yet? Or is it just me? I also seem to get weird glitching at the edges of the screen right at the start of most tests in 3DMark03 now. Everything else seems okay...

I'm going to update from 1007 to 1008.004 now. I hope that helps.

I have 2 sticks of Hyperex 512MB PC3500 memory installed on my Deluxe board. What memory settings are you guys who have this using. I just set up my board and have everything running default ot auto. It runs fine and is very fast. A big improvement over my previous MSI NEO-LSR 875P Board I returned.

I was impressed how easy this board is to set up. This is my first build and the manual and startup disc is great. Very intuitive. Some guy asked which software you load first. After gewtting windows up dated and rrunning the Asus Setup driver disc is a piece of cake. Just go down the line on the menu and install the drivers. I am very impressed with this board and with Asus.

Now I am looking for some of the testing software you guys always use to see how your system is performing. Any links fellas for downloads?

Hey, I am looking to scrap the computer project I was doing, but cannot get to work right. So, after I ditch my ASUS P4G8X MoBo and P4 3.06, I want a new processor and new MoBo. I want to get the P4P800, but I gotta find out before I buy, so the same problem does not come up again:

1) Do the ATI cards work well on this board, unlike the P4G8X which had the card crashing every 5 minutes? Specifically, if I got a 9800 Pro 256, would it work PERFECTLY?
2) Do the Nvidia cards work well? Like the new 5900 Ultras?
3) Is there anything else I should know about? Ram choices? Sound card incompatibilieties?

Thank you for you help. Like I said, I spent $2800 on that P4G8X system, I am never got to use it to the full potential because the 9700 Pro AIW did not work with it, and there were MANY other problems that not even the ASUS tech guys could solve for me. So, I wanna do even more research before I dump MORE money into a completely new system. Remember, I dont care about spending money if it works, and speed thats faster than GOD is what im after.

Thanks again

Does the standard version of the P4P800 have the PAT or is it only the Deluxe version? Could someone please tell me what exactly are the major differences between the 3 versions of this board? Sorry if this has already been answered.

Both versions have MAM (which is PAT apparently), it was enabled in 1007 BIOS.

That USB issue was also fixed in 1007, lots of people were having issues. You may still have to tweak the bios settings re: USB legacy support. I don't use any USB devices (weird eh hehe getting a 256meg pendrive eventually) so it's not a problem for me.

Hiya, i've update My P4P800 to Bios version 1008.004, as I was told to in an email from AsusTek..

I have a P4 2.8C CPU, with 512 MB of Kingston Pc3200 (KVR400X64C25/512).. I read on previous pages, that this module wont work in Dual Channel DDR?, i currently have only 1 stick, and was planning on buying another of the same, for Dual Channel DDR.

Is this still the case? that it wont work? Any help would be appreciated.

And I've have the Timings set to "Get from SPD", and its come up as 2.5-3-3

Recently it was Rebooting "itself", I had changed the timings to faster ones, So i thought it would leave it defualt. Kept rebooting when i was playing a D3D game, i thought it was overheating, still unsure. But its been stable for a while..
Any idea's other than that?

Cheers,
DeacoN

Does anyone know if a Zalman ZM80-A Heatpipe (on an AGP card) will interfere with the northbridge heatsinks on either the P4P800 or P4P800 Deluxe? It looks like it might be close - Thanks
