Asus is responsible for their boards ONLY. They cannot be liable for other hardware that may have contributed to the problem. How do we know that the video or memory of PSU overvolted? We don't...therefor it is unfair to blame asus for something that may not even be their fault.

Not a clue. The motherboard was JUST BAD. I've built probibly 80 computers from scratch. Never had this kinda problem. This is the email im sending out to pretty much major computer website I can find.
System specs:
2.4C, Antec Tru550, 2x512mb Corsair XMS PC3500, Sapphire Tech. Radeon 9800 Pro
So I got a P4P800 because my IC7 had a broken sound processor on arrival, and I figured it would be a better board all around. Pulled it out of the box, unplugged the computer, let the mobo sit in the room air for ~45 minutes in the anti-static bag, strapped on my anti-static wristband, pulled the IC7 out, put the P4P800 in. Boot it up, and about a quarter second of on, then everything powers down. Check over all connections, unplug, replug in, same thing. Unplug the hd's, same. Then the 2nd stick of ram, same. Then the vid card, same. Pull everything out, put it all back in. Does the same. Put IC7 back in and IT DOES THE SAME 1/4th SECOND BOOT. Plug in another stick of ram, same. Plug in another video card, same. Plug in another psu, it stays on. Says CPU is unrecognizable. Put the first ram back in, says the same as CPU. So as it stands, it appears the P4P800 fried CPU, ram, Video card, and PSU. Asus says they are not responsible for 3rd party hardware that is plugged into their board. Corsair says that Asus should foot the bill as the ram has been working for months, Sapphire says the Radeon could be replaced but again, Asus should do it. I've been building computers for 6 years. This is by far the worst time I've had. If you feel up to it, post this on your site. People should know what Asus is about.
Sincerely,
Nathan Shimek

Your situation is unfortunate to say the least but since you really do not know what caused the problem how can you be so sure it is ASUS' fault. It is possible you damaged something upon removal and reinsertion of components. I am not blaming just putting forth possibilities. The fact is you don't know for SURE what happened as it sounds to me. Computer building is fun but it is also technically risky business as you are now finding out. I wish you luck in finding a solution to your problems.

At default settings (200FSB 400Mhz Memory and 2.6Ghz CPU) I can enable MAM and CPU-Z shows performance mode as ON.

cmdrdredd can you do a benchmark with these settings I would be interested to see what the diff would be with these numbers.

Im gonna lay the blame squarely on Asus. I have built over 200 computers in the last 3 years, the majority of which have used Asus motherboards. They will never get my money again. When I first started I fried a sound card, because of lack of wrist strap and just unplugging then installing it, so I learned my lesson. I do everything pre-cautionary to make sure stuff like this dosen't happen.

Are you sure that enabling Turbo mode sets the timings of your RAM to 2-2-2-5. What if you have DDR400 modules that are only CAS 2.5 or 3 which can't handle CAS 2. Will this give problems (instability) when activating Turbo mode? And what about activating MAM with non-CAS 2 modules?! Will this also give problems?

I believe in Anandtech's memory test Crucial PC3200 modules, which are CAS 3 and won't work at CAS 2 as far as I know, worked fine with both MAM enabled and Performance Mode set to Turbo on the P4P800 Deluxe, so I don't think this will give a problem?!

i think he might be right...if the timings are set manually then turbo mode does nothing, at least that's what I noticed in my own benchmarks.

As for problems with ram, that's hard to say....if you have the RAM running at a lower frequency then what it's rated then the timings should be able to come down.

Just a note re: 1008 final bios.

I downloaded the file (it's now listed on their website not just the German FTP) and was going to flash but AsusUpdate reports the "final" 1008 as being the same version as the 1008.004 beta (same file revision date/time, same checksum version).

I guess the beta was final then?

I have two questions about this P4P800 Deluxe.

1) how do you set DRAM freqs? I get three oprtions, auto, 266, and 333 mhz.

2) I flashed the bios from 1005 directly to 1007, by passing 1006 which I understand was not a good thing to do. What did I miss and how can I go about correcting it? Do I have to flash from a dos prompt? How can I do that with XP Pro?

Current system specs:
2.53b
2 x 256 mgs, Corsair CMX pc3200 c2
Asus P4P800 Deluxe.

I should be getting my 3.0C next week along with 2 sticks of OCZ pc3700 Gold that I scored from Evan
TIA

1) 400=1:1, 320=4:5, 266=2:3. With the OCZ 3700 and 3.0C, I'd see how far I could go on the 1:1.
2) Format a floppy, and select the "DOS boot disk" option. I went from 1.005 to 1.007 no probs. It's debateable if it's necessary, I've heard conflicting reports.

Any RCA cable will work. I use a video composite, it works well.

I had just booted up my P4P800/2.6C for the first time and then it asked me if i wanted to partition the drive. I figured by creating a partition of 18000mb it would automatically create a D:. I guess it did but I'm sure my problem is that I only formatted the C: to NTFS and I figure neglected formatting the new partition to NTFS as well. Therefore when I get into Windows it only sees my C: as 21GB and my optical drives. How should I remedy this problem to recover the rest of my storage space. This is a WD Raptor on a brand new installation of XP Home. Should I reformat and enter Windows setup again? WIll reactivation become a problem? Thanks..

Umm, actually, you can't get a 400 1:1, since you are using a FSB533 CPU. So you want the 266 setting for 1:1.

2) DRAM Idle Timer (options go from 0T to 64T in increments of eight)

3) DRAM refresh (options are from 7.8usec - 64usec )

Can anyone tell me what settings these should be manually set at or should I just keep using the "auto" setting for each? My timing settings are currently 2-2-3-6 as was suggested by the Kingston tech support.

I thought this was answered earlier.
1) Try diff benchmarks and see (SisSoftware Sanda is good). For my 256MB DIMMS, I find 4 gives better results. I also run 2-3-2-5 for no or slight memory o/c's, but 2-3-2-6-4 seems the best for anything aggressive.
2) Someone said to set it to infinity to turn it off, but I found that lowered benchmarks. The best for me was 0T, but I only tried auto, infinity, and 0T so I did not do an exhaustive study.
3) I run 15.6. Higher is better, but you start hurting performance if you go too high.

use the administrative tools in your control panels and click on computer managment. Then click storage. You will see your C drive and a blank partition. You can format it there for NTFS

Here is how the ratios work. With a "B" CPU 266=1:1 333=4:5 and auto I think is by speed (not sure). With a "C" CPU 266=3:2 320=5:4 400=1:1 and auto I think by speed (not sure again).

Hi all!

I am very happy with my new P4P800 Deluxe. Put it in, switched it on, everything went smooth! I am now at 270 FSB with 3,24Ghz on my 2,4C. 2 Corsair XMS3200C2 at 360 with 2,2,2,5. Turbo enabled and MAM too. If it does any good, I don`t know, since CPU-Z says Performance mode is disabled as soon as I overclock.

I got one question though: How do I configure my HDDs? Just plain simple 100 and 133 ones, no raid nothing. What values for PIO. UDMA Smart monitoring and 32 bit transer.
I guess smart monitoring disabled, 23 bit transfer on, but I don`t know if I should leave the PIO and UDMA on Auto or switch to highest possible number. Any got any ideas?

thanks!

As soon as you switch the ratio off 1:1 for your memory, memory acceleration is disabled. Just an FYI...

I have a quick question. Ive got the P4P800 Deluxe and I stupidly bought the Corsair TWINX1024-3200LLPT memory. My system is not overclocked, its a 2.8cGHz and I have a Radeon 9700 and an audigy 2 card. For some reason whenever I load a 3D game like unreal or battlefield, it runs for 5 minutes and freezes. Ive tryed setting my memory to 2-2-2-6, 2-3-2-6, 2.5-3-3-6, and by spd and I always get the same results, just sometimes the game crashes faster. Under windows the system is perfectly stable. Any ideas on whats causing all these stupid crashes??

Thanks for all your help.

(bios is 1007)

even at 1:1 if you overclock the FSB beyond 200Mhz you get no MAM
