Antero, I have a similar problem, although my system is overclocked and I am still experimenting with timings. But it happens very very seldom for me.
The frist thing that comes into my mind is: raise the voltages for cpu, ram and agp. I think especially RAM needs more than auto, as I read at Corair`s forum. hope that helps.
But we should stay in contact, since I have a Radeon, too. Maybe its the AGP card after all..

2 questions:
1. What ram is everyone having trouble with, or doing the best with? I got some Twinmos/Winbond CH-5 ram when I bought my IC7, hoping that it would be able to outdo BH-5, and it didn't. So im going to go either 2x512mb of Hyper-X, or 2x512mb Corsair PC3500.

2. How is the compatability between the Radeon 9500 Pro or Radeon 9600 Pro? My ole Ti4200 fried over the weekend, and I don't wanna spend alot of money on a new card.

I raised my memory voltage to 2.75 in the bios with still no luck. I havent tried the CPU or AGP yet though. I think if i try that and it still doesnt work, im going to get rid of this memory and go for either the HyperX 3500 (1GB) or the Corsair twinx3500 (1GB). I dont know which is better.

Hi,

1/ Is it true that the P4P800 Deluxe's "MAM" and/or "Turbo" mode ONLY work when you install native CAS 2 PC3200 modules, so that it won't work if your modules can only handle CAS 2.5 or 3 for instance?! If I understand it right all that MAM does is puch your modules to CAS2 timings, so if they can't handle it, like Crucial and Apacer PC3200 I believe, could this perhaps even give stability problems with MAM and Turbo mode enabled (or maybe it just won't work)?!!

1/b/ also, is it true that lost of PC3200 modules don't really operate at 400Mhz?!

2/ second, which of the following modules from OCZ do I best take:

- OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel
- OCZ EL DDR PC-3500 Dual Channel
- OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Platinum
- OCZ EL DDR PC-3500 Dual Channel Platinum

Which ones will work best with the P4P800 Deluxe? I don't want to spend too much money, so is it really that interesting to get 3500 instead of 3200 and Platinum instead of regular?!!

3/ all things considered, which are the best priced, good-quality CAS2 (or CAS2.5) Dual-Channel DDR modules out there?! Would that be OCZ, or could you aswell get Apacer and set them from CAS3 to CAS 2.5. Question remains how important CAS really is to these systems?!

I hope somebody can answer my questions! Thanks very much!!

Mike.

I just bought the p4p800 deluxe with a P4 800mhz 2.6. I tried all afternoon but i cant get it to work. I had the 12v 4-pin ATX connector plugged in and everything, but all it would do is spin the fans for a second and die.

I know my video card isnt compliant with the board, but would this cause it to do this?

I can't connect to the 1.008 download location (Europe or Worldwide - China and U.S. links are dead). Does anyone know a mirror location?

I am still confused about this, but if you have for instance BIOS 1.005 and want to upgrade to 1.007, do you have to upgrade first to 1.006 and then 1.007, or can you directly flash to 1.007?! I have read different opinions about this, but could anyone please clarify this once and for all?! Thanks!

My stock board came with v1005 on it and I upgraded to V1007 skipping v1006 with no problems. It appears that version 1006 is the one you cannot update and skip a version.

I have that exact same problem! But what happened? I plugged my IC7 back in trying to see if the P4P800 was defective, or if it was my psu. I found that the IC7 did the same thing. I know the psu, antec 550, was working an hour before I used the P4P800, and once I tried it it no longer worked. Im getting a refund on the P4P, and buying a new one.

I dont think that the MB is necessarily the problem (dont quote me on that), but I went and bought a new 400w Antec Smart Power yesterday so Im going to try that out. I talked to Asus and they told me that my vid card is compliant so im happy about that, but still stumped! I dont think it is a memory issue either, because the i was trying to boot with and w/o memory on the board and it still wouldnt do a thing.

Anyone know if my mem is compliant?

You can flash directly to 1008 if you wish, you dont need to get anything in between. I flashed from 1005 to 1088 directly.

I think 1008 includes the auto-recovery feature in 1006 since you have to use the same procedure to update.

I had tried OCZ Dual Channel 3500 EL and it sucked, lots of random crashing and it wouldn't even POST at DDR 434 which is it's freaking spec.

Heya, I had this same problem, You have to reset the CMOS. Take out the power plug/Take out the battery/reset the Jumper then put it all back in, works after that.

I'm not sure if my BIOS images I'm getting from Asus' website is corrupt or not, but when I attempt to change the "Performance Mode" option within the 1008 BIOS my system generates a checksum error and fails to boot. Anybody else experience this?

Yes, I have the exact same problem. I can't set 'Performance Mode' to Turbo at all. Even after loading defaults, increasing voltages, or anything, will give me a cold boot. I then have to reset CMOS. The notion I have is that Turbo automatically sets your memory timings to 2-2-2-5, and since I can't get those timings at all (with any BIOS update) without getting a bad checksum, Turbo isn't an option for me. If you're curious, I have the Kingston KHX3500K2/512 memory kit installed.

If you are trying to run a 800MHz FSB P4 on a P4P800 you are not going to get away with 266MHz memory, unless you underclock it down to 266MHz DDR from 400MHz DDR in the BIOS settings.

..

Re: Checksum problems, I too experienced this when I tried to set my TwinX1024-3200LL to 2-2-2-5, it required me to reflash the BIOS and take out the battery or it would not boot (scary the first time it happened since I was not even aware this was possible or that auto-recovery existed). I'm not sure if Turbo sets 2-2-2-5 because CPUz still reports my manually set timings of 2-3-2-6 (3 = RAS-to-CAS) even with turbo/peformance and MAM both on. I wish Asus would post detail about what these features are in the manual or at least a readme.txt. Strange thing, my XMS 3500 will each run 2-2-2-5 at stock voltage individually but once in dual channel it is a no go (this is at DDR 400-408 range).

Although the 1008.004 beta and 1008 final bios appear to be the same, I was getting all sorts of random crashes (even at stock speeds) with 004 beta which seem to have been solved in 1008 final (Prime95 would crash after a relatively short period, 3D games would cause random resets which seemed like overheating even though CPU was never over 40 etc.)

And what if you want to run dual-DDR333 (PC2700) on an 800Mhz FSB P4 with Canterwood. Won't that give good results, almost as good as dual-DDR400?!! Does it *have* to be dual-DDR400 with an 800Mhz with Canterwood perhaps?!!

Well by default, the CPU will want to run a 400MHz memory bus.

e.g. P4 2.6 "C" will have a locked multiplier of 13 x 200 (400 DDR - quad pumped to 800 FSB) memory bus. 13 x 200 = 2600.

Unless you have really good 333 DDR memory, it will probably not be able to run at 400 DDR (166MHz vs 200MHz). You could simply set the memory ratio down to 5:4 which would run the FSB at 200 and the memory clock at 160 for 320 DDR. You can play around with FSB/memory to optimize the settings for your CPU/RAM in this manner.

So yes it is possible to use DDR 333 memory but you will be losing out on some of the memory bandwidth available by using a DDR 400 platform, I'm not sure how much, you would have to look at benchmarks.

i'll benchmark my system with P4P800 and P4 2.6c with my DDR running 333...stay tuned

If you gonna use dual-DDR333 on an 800Mhz Pentium 4, is it necessary that you manually change the memory ratio setting to 5:4 (and is this the best setting?!) or does this all happen automatically when the CPU detects the memory?! What settings would I get if I wouldn't change the ratio settings manually?!

Thanks in advance!
