From Asus PC Probe and Speedfan.. my CPU is showing up as one temp, the other temp I assume is the NB since it is higher and has no active cooling only a heat sink.

What heatsink+fan combo can anyone recommend for the asus p4p800 deluxe? thanks

Don't know if anyone had this problem and post it before, but I'm getting 2 Unknown devices listed on device manager ... apparently I've installed all drivers, so I have no clue what I may be missing ...

Any clues?

I know I give not much of a help ... but I don't know what to give ... all seems to go fine ... well, apparently.

I'm also having some troubles with microphone input ... I un-mute and max-volume the microphone, but still no sound in ... well, sometimes I can hear my voice, but very far away ... and with many static ...

Changed mic with same results ... could it be related (some sort) with those 2 unknown devices? Anyone got them?

As far as the BIOS issue. They released a beta BIOS 1011, and a number of people had to send their BIOS chips back and get new ones. It was touched on earlier in this thread. Monky is a credible source, but I think they will come out with a BIOS eventually (just not for a while). Of course you can run P-ATA and S-ATA drives, but installing on the primary ide on the deluxe version of the MoBo may be problematic. The BIOS versions 1006 and 1008 contain a boot sector update, and unlike other versions of the BIOS which you flash with AFUDOS they have executable programs to update the BIOS. Using the boot sector update solves a lot of problems, and you should flash one of them before updating to the final BIOS. 1008 seems to be favored amongst o/c'ers, but I didn't see any difference in o/c between 1008 and 1010 (the most recent BIOS, which I run). If your boards running w/o problems, there's no reason to worry about BIOS updates past the boot sector updates.

Hey! That's where my old Sinclair Z80 went.... Now if only I could find that old Practical Wireless magazine that I bought the Sinclair "One Transistor" radio from???

Just picking up new system... long time Asus board user. Trying out P4P800 deluxe.

Will be using Promise PCI Raid 5 array, with Seagate 160GB PATA drives (3 year warranty!), 2GB-PC3200 Asus approved RAM, Sonata case, Globalwin cooler, etc. etc.

I have read much of this mostly EXCELLENT forum. Could use input on this config... any one been there and done this??

Does anyone have a clue about my microphone problem?

When recording (using Sound Recorder in XP) I have to scream loud to see the green line moving ... I don't have any mic input volume, so it should be related with P4P800+WinXP ... I have Bios 1009 running with no problems (at least it seems so, anyway).

Should there be any setting in BIOS to enable mic?

I've installed SoundMAX software, but I know of someone who has a P4C800 and all works fine for him ... tried another mic with same results

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

^ It might be a SoundMax prob, I don't know how much I can help there. What I'd do is download the full package ATI video drivers (install order is important on the broken up progs, takes the guess work out), uninstall the ATI drivers, reboot, when it asks for the disk hit cancel, remover the offending hardware in device manager, then reinstall the catalyst drivers. You might want to update your boot sector (1006 or 1008) to help the mic prob. I had many soundcard issues before, mainly a conflict with the NIC. Sorry if this doesn't help, it's the best I can do.

OK, now my eyes are completely crossed trying to figure this memory situation out. I have not seen, from what I have read (and I haven't read it all) in this thread, anybody mentioning Crucial RAM.

I am trying to put together a system based on the P4P800. I am a loser...I will not be overclocking, and am not too worried about having the fastest memory. The Crucial PC3200 is by far the cheapest I have found (and budget is an issue).

Anandtech says it will be ok, in the 865/875 memory roundup. However, just wondering if anyone has any firsthand experience??

Thanks in advance!

I just built a system with that config and it is flawless. I and my customer are very pleased. It is running W2k pro with all the updates in an accounting firm envirnment as a fileserver with 240 gig of hdd space. It runs an nividea 5200 visd card and it is fast and sweet.

I've read most of this thread and I like it alot. I'm very interested in this board. I've had (all diff chipsets) Epox, Tyan, Kwill, and my present Abit BG7, I'm looking to try out ASUS. Never had anything but my cd burner made by them, but the name seems to mean great products. But I've also heard so much about the abit 865pe and how it is a great board also. Any real comparisons you all could help me with? I want scalability with prescott, Sata, raid. I'm going to be using my current 1.8a and my 1gb of Kingston 3200 ram. The chip oc's great, right now I'm just wanted the dual channel capability and new voltage settings. All that said, do you think i should wait till Q1 next year?

Crucial 3200 works perfectly -- at least for the last three months -- with the p4p800 deluxe, MAM enabled. Using bios 1.008. Do not use Turbo. ptb

Is crucial 512mb pc2700 not enough to run a p4p800? Just switched from an AMD 2500, ASUS A7N8X Deluxe and it worked perfectly, overclocked to 3200+ speeds. But now in my p4p800 it wont even boot the system. I have had several people say it is my ram. So they told me to get someother ram and then go into the bios settings and change my bios settings so it is runny at 333mhz instead of 400mhz. Do you think that is it? Oh, I'm running a p4 2.6c. Thanks

Guys I need help really really back. Alright, as I said in my previous post I just switched from an amd to p4 2.6c, asus p4p800 mobo. My computer wont even bootup. I have an ati sapphire 9500np with the newest bios, and my pn number ends with 30 which the manual saids is better for overclocking and performance. I have a stick of crucial 512mb pc2700 ram. A friend of mine said that it is probably my ram and I need to switch it from 400mhz to 333mhz, because it won't even bootup with teh 400mhz. But I don't have another stick of ram or one available to get a hold of to do this. Is there a jumper or something on the board to do that? Thanks for the help guys, later

Hello Everyone -

Decided to build a p4p800D system, and this thread has a wealth of information. I've observed that DDR400 RAM can be tricky with this board so I have some concerns:

I see a lot of people using Kingston HyperX, Corsair TwinX and OCZ 3200 RAM, and some using a more "competitively priced" Crucial setup. However, is anyone using Mushkin RAM with success? I'm looking at a Mushkin Black L1 Two pack since it is obnoxiously more expensive for a L2 two-pack...

If Mushkin won't work dual-channel with this board, I would like to know. I'm trying to get the best bang for the buck on RAM; the last computer I built was a 933 P3 and the RAM was literally like 15 USD.

Sorry, I'm seeking DDR400 / PC3200 RAM, probably 1GB (2x512) but considering 512 (2x256)...

I also intend to get the 2.8ghz p4 and one of the few SATA drives out there.

Any thoughts about the memory or any other suggestions??

THANKS!

Your friend is right. I don't understand your question, I guess, but PC2700 = DDR333. In your BIOS->Advanced->Jumper Free Settings set your overclock to manual. Memory frequency to 320, Performance mode to standard. If you cannot get into BIOS you need to pull your CMOS battery for a few minutes to reset your BIOS (IIRC, I pulled mine for 5 min to reset it once).

EDIT: I believe the Mushkin will be fine with the board. There are a number of system rigs I've seen on ABX that use it and the P4P800.

Can the ICH5-R do RAID 1 yet? I'll be using Linux as my OS, so I'm hoping there is BIOS-level support for RAID 1 now.

Hi guys

Please help

Intel 3.0C Ghz,
2 sticks of Kingston Hyper X 512M each PC 3200
or 2 Sticks of Kingston Valueram 512M each PC3200.
Antec true power 380W,
120G Seagate SATA,
GF4 Ti4600.
Lite-On Cd writer.

First, I used a pair of Hyper X, fresh installion of XP Pro. It installs, however half way of the installation it just pop up with blue screen with memory dump, and all sort of different error msg (with the second and third attempt). Then I return the Hyper X and replace them with the valueram, same thing happens. I also try single modules as well, however again with no luck.

The strange thing is when I use 512M PC2700 ram it works prefectly (single module).

I just want to get the correct ram to run the box stable. no overclocking or playing around with the latencies on the ram, however I would prefer PC3200 2 x 512 sticks. Any Brand?

Addition info - I have updated to the lastest bios, which is P4p1010. I can't return the board coz I have used it for 6 months with my old 2.4B. Now upgrading my ram to PC3200 and CPU.

Any suggestions? Please reply asap. Many Thanks in advance.

P.S. Please do suggest a solution and don't get side tracked. I have read all 22 pages in this thread and it always get side tracked.

Set performance mode to standard, VDimm=2.75V, and if it still gives you problems turn of Memory acceleration.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try it later today. One last thing does this goes for both Hyper X and valueram? Or just Value ram?

NP. I'm reformatting & reinstalling, so I'm on the computer a bit... I don't know much about the value ram, the instructions were more KHX specific. I run the 256MB modules of the 3500, which is the BH-5 chip. A number of people are having probs with the 512 chip, since it's based on the CH-5. You should be able to run stock, just not much above (if at all). The weakness of both chips is they cannot run full PAt (most mfrs have the same prob). Good luck!.

Good catch!! Scooped the ABX'ers on the link.

EDIT: I think I fixed the HD issue I've been having since about a month after I upgraded to this board. I finally broke down and bought an ethernet card (10/100) and disabled the Gigabyte LAN and my HD performance shoth through the roof. I also seem to have True Vector issues with Zone Alarm, which contributed to the problem before I "upgraded" to my new $15 card. I was running ca 23k on Sandra with a fresh instal (defragmented)l, now I'm at 36500 on the same install (and I was heavily fragmmented). I just defragged, and you can really see the difference. Plus Windows starts quicker, and I was getting some serious device errors (I even had trouble installing Windows). That leaves me with only 1 onboard enabled, the VIA RAID; my system is running so much better now. My past experience has been I can raise the HD performance, but it drops over time (something about having an S-ATA and a P-ATA drive installed on the IDE RAID), but this seems different. WinXP sp2 is supposed to fix that problem. I'll keep you posted, but I wanted to share in case anyone else was having similar issues.
