Sorry I didnt see this here earlier...
Here is some helpful info on how I got my p5b deluxe working with OCZ gold pc2 6400(800) 2x1GB. I had bios version 0507 and it would not do anything when turned on. It was just a blank screen. I tried a few things then I booted with one single stick of ram, then I imediatly went to bios and set the ram timings manually to ocz spec. After saveing settings I shut it down at the no os found screen. I then added the other stick for dual channel. Then it booted fine.

But it still did it when I reset bios to defaults. After I updated bios I didnt have this problem anymore.

I hope this helps some-one.

Just built a new system with the P5B Deluxe using a C2D 6600 and Corsair XMS2 DDR2 memory 2 sticks of CM2X512A-6400. My problem is when i have both sticks installed in A1 and B1 slots i get nothing, it powers up but no display and no beeps. With the help of Asus tech support I got it running with just 1 stick in B1 slot, he told me to update the bios "version 0706" and try it again with both sticks. Well i did the update and still wont run with both sticks. This memory is on the QVC list for this board. Is it bad memory or what? It will run with either stick in B1. What can I do to fix this?

For anyone having issues with getting AHCI working right and are stuck in slow-as-hell IDE mode, here's what I found out:

For the P5B Deluxe from what I gathered from owners on other forums, the ICH8R AHCI drivers are included on the CD and need to be installed off a floppy disk (wtf who has an FDD anymore?) by pressing F6 when first booting off the XP CD to install the OS. When you do this, do it in IDE mode as the setup program won't recognize your drive when it's in AHCI. It'll just incorporate the AHCI drivers into the install so that when you boot up with AHCI, Windows will load fine with the proper driver.

For the P5B non-Deluxe, I found that the CD ASUS included -does not- have the ICH8 AHCI drivers (the vanilla uses ICH8, not ICH8R). I believe they're the ICH8R drivers only and it mislabels them as ICH8. When you do the F6 method above with the supposedly ICH8 drivers off of ASUS' CD, the drivers are installed fine but when you boot into Windows it ****** up as though you didn't have the drivers at all. What I ended up doing was booting up in IDE mode on the Intel SATA controller and installing the drivers for the JMicron controller (while it's enabled in AHCI mode in the CMOS). I then shut down, connect my HDD to the JMicron controller and VOILA I'm booting up in AHCI mode and SATA performance is finally normal.

I left the Intel SATA controller enabled in AHCI mode and when I checked it out in Device Manager, it only showed up as Unknown PCI Device. I tried manually installing a driver for it off of the CD, but absolutely no drivers on the disc matched the controller. It looks like ASUS never included the correct driver for Intel's ICH8 SATA controller and I couldn't find it on either ASUS' or Intel's sites. To this day it's still sitting there labeled as a PCI Device with no driver whatsoever. P5B vanilla users should just go with the JMicron controller, it works fine.

I'm having trouble with hibernate and suspend. Both seem to work OK but after the system has shut down, the poer light flashes and the system immediately restarts.

I get this problem regardless of how I initiate the power down:

1) MCE Remote
2) Windows 'start' panel
3) Front panel pwer down button.

However, if I use a 'Power off' option instead of hibernate or suspend, it stays shut down.

I've checked and re-checked the BIOS options and all the 'wake-up' options are disabled.

Anyone any ideas? Is there a log or something that tells me what causes the spurious restart?

P5B Deluxe Raid with XP or VISTA RC1

Hi, sorry I have psoted this elsewhere but I figure this thread is the best place to get a quick answer. Please see if you can help....

I have just put together my new machine using a P5B deluxe with WIFI and three Samsung 250GB Spinpoint SP2504C drives.

I want a Raid5 system with two partitions (one 64.8MB which I'll use for the OS and a 400GB one for the DATA).

I have created a raid driver disc from the ASUS CD. I have also created one from the intel website using the 'floppy' tool.

I have tried to install VISTA RC1 and also the newer RC1 build that has just released. The VISTA installation recognises my floppy when I select 'load drivers', however it always says that it cannot install VISTA on either of the two RAID5 drives I have created, it recommends activating the raid controller in the BIOS...which obviously has already been done.

I then tried installing windows XP SP2 and using the F6 method installed the raid drivers which windows indicates are newer on the floppy than on the CD. These install, however, shortly after the system BSOD on me during the installation.

I am now left with a system that I cannot use if I want to use RAID. Both will install fine if I do not select RAID in the BIOS.

Does anyone have a solution or some advice?

Regards,

Phil.

Just got my P5B Deluxe machine up and running. Should I install the Intel INF drivers on the Asus CD for XP Pro SP2?

Thanks,
Mitch

I fixed my own problem. Experimenting with different power off options I started seeing "Power surge on hub port" messages on resume after standby. It was blaming the Zalman's card reader to start with but I was seeing the message even if I disconnected all USB devices from the motherboard.

Anyhow, that got me looking at the USB ports and I decided to switch all the USB device wake-up jumpers from +5V to +5VSB. Now, since I'm using S3 I figure that should make my problem worse if anything. But it fixed both the power surge and the standby/hibernate issue!

I'd love to know why that works, but happy that it does!

It also has protection for power fluctuations so the PSU should not be the source of the problem. I've also tried to use an Audigy 2 sound card and disable onboard sound to eliminate this variable. To no avail. I'll run memtest86 tonight to check for any errors but I highly doubt a faulty ram (I've changed the memory sticks once). Everything runs at stock speeds. In desktop it's stable but that just doesn't cut it for me.
So far this computer has been a waste of money and now the retail shop doesn't acknowledge it's a hardware failure hence they don't want to replace anything. They say they can't duplicate the crashes i get when they run 3dmark tests.

For those who experience similar problems I just want to add that I've solved my problems. I replaced the OCZ ram with Corsair and everything runs smooth now. No more BSOD. The OCZ gave me one error in memtest but it looks like it's more like an incompatibility issue as maybe the mobo couldn't properly read the SPD settings on the ram.
the memtest error I had with OCZ

Set memory voltage to 2.1v and timing to whatever the spec is rated at typically 5-5-5-12 for most Corsair unless you got the pro. Then try both sticks. If it still won't work RMA the memory for another set.

I bought 2 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 kits. Everything worked fine for about a half hour after XP install then suddenly it locked up and wouldn't restart (everything still stock). On start it would hang and say something like 'checking NVRAM' After some trial and error, I realized that it was one stick of ram. The other three in any combination and in any slot worked fine. That one stick wouldn't even work on its own. First (and possibly last) time purchasing corsair ram... For the price I expect better quality control.

Because of 1 bad stick you discredit the entire company? Man, do you realize how low the percentage of DOA memory is? You may as well never buy any memory because like it or not every single manufacturer in the world has had DOAs. There's a reason they offer a warranty for you.

Well, if you think other brands are better just go for them. But I can tell you one faulty mem stick is not so bad. RMA and give it another try. Before having corsair I had to RMA TWO sets of OCZ ram (the first one was definetly damaged and the second one was causing some strange sudden reboots).
Corsair is working like a miracle now for me.

BTW, in CPU-Z the memory timing is shown as 4-5-4-15 but the SPD is 4-4-4-12. Now, which one is showing the real timing of my ram ?? Am I running it at higher latencies ? In bios the settings for timing are on AUTO and the freq is set at 800MHz.
Tkx for help
Cheers

Hey guys -

Had something weird happen with my P5B Deluxe- Wifi last night. System has been up and running for 4 weeks now, but last night my keyboard and mouse suddenly died. I had just reinstalled windows XP to get the AHCI stuff working - performance is noticeably faster than the IDE setting - and had completed the Windows XP activation and assorted Windows Update downloads. Everything was going great. Even booted into XP a couple of times with no problems. Then, when I was getting ready to install Vista on another partition, I realized the computer kept bypassing my pressing the DEL button to go into the BIOS and change the boot order. It just kept right on booting into XP. That's when i noticed that the light on my keyboard was not lit. I unplugged it and put it back in. It lit up briefly (1sec) and went back off. Now, when it boots into XP, the keyboard doesn't work at all, and the mouse works for like two seconds before it stops working. I even tried a wireless Logitech MX setup I used to use that is USB based, and it's a no go as well. Keyboard nor mouse works. Any ideas, or should I RMA the board? I can't even do a format reinstall of XP on the hard drive with no keyboard! The last thing i did was download the optional JMicron Windows update device driver update - not sure if that had anything to do with it?

I have a Maxtor HD, tried to the use the floppy based DOS program to format the hard drive, but again, I can't type a C or F to tell the program to boot from CD or Floppy using the keyboard - which makes me think it's not necessarily windows related - but the actual board.

Has anyone had trouble with the sound on an Asus P5B-Deluxe WiFi? Hell yes! I almost fixed it. I fixed the popping that is in music/gaming. Go into 'SoundMAX control panel', click the 'preferences' tab, click on 'DTS connect' tab, under 'enable DTS Interactive' uncheck the box next to 'Enable Subwoofer'. That will fix the (annoying) popping you hear. As for the crackling, heh....I still haven't figured that out yet. If you find out let me know. A question though. Does it make a crackling/electronic interference sound when you move your mouse around as well? Mine does and I heard one person say you have it too loud, well when I have it below the lowest hash mark on volume, it still does it.

A sound card you say? Yes, since you are a gamer, EAX will come in handy, so get creative labs sound blaster for like $30. That's what I'm going to do if I cant fix my problem.

Asus not having having complaints about sound issues? I call BS! I have seen more than just you and I complain about it.

EDIT: Stupidity follows me all over! Damnit, get off me!! AAAGGGGHHHH!!! oh...sorry, got a little carried away The reason I say that is, my crackling came from the sound being too loud :disgust: I was checking sound in Windows and it was almost all the way down like I said. BUT! While checking out how to show you to fix that popping, I decided to lower it there and use windows after. Well I fixed my problem while fixing yours Good trade

Hi there, I am not very good with computers, but know enough to get by.
I bought this:
p5b deluxe w/wifi
e6400 CPU
1 gig RAM
320 SATA HD

Here are my problems:
1.) I cannot for the life of me get XP/SP2 to even see that I have an audio "card" I tried switching it to AC'97, tried installing the new software, just gives me an error of "HD audio bus driver needs to be installed"

2.) In my device manager I have a ?PCI card that always prompts me to install for but I cannot get a driver for it. It doesn't say anything except "PCI" so I don't even know where to start. Could it be my audio? I tired that, but it doesn't accept the driver.

If anyone can help, it would be great. Thank you.

Hi there, yes I disabled and switched the sound to Ac'97
Still no sound...
Just tried installing the drivers from asus FTP (from another reply) and still got the same error...it gets to a certain point and says: "HD audio bus driver needs to be installed"

It's a little frustrating...
