Now what? I tried my CD bootdisk but when I get to the dos prompt it won't recognize ANY of my hard drives?

you can use winflash or use asus' update program to flash your bios.

You don't need to use the dos prompt...when your system is booting up. press ALT-F2 and the asus program will start and then ask you to point to the source for your BIOS...easiest bios change I've ever done.

Also, regarding IDE drives...if you aren't using RAID, go into the Windows add/remove programs and remove "JRAID"....right after you do so, your system will find the IDE drives and they will run much faster.

Hi all this is my first post so go easy.

I have overclocked for many years but have hit a brick wall for teh first time.

I am running:
Motherbaord: P5B (not delux) 0309 bois
CPU: E6600 (stock heatsink)
PSU: 500w rms peak 580w
ATI: X600 256Mb
Ram: 2x512Mb cosair twinX PC6400

I can not get the the CPU to run stable at above 3.02Ghz no matter what I do with the multipliers. I can run with a multiplier of x7 and an FSB of 420, note: vCore is 1.5 and ram is 2.1v. If I set the ram to 800Mhz the system wil not post. Also with vCore that high I am running at 61 deg.C at idle. The board is running at 32 degrees C no matter what I throw at it.
I have ordered an artic freezer pro 7 (with lapping kit) and a some cable braiding and am going to add another exhaust fan to try and get the temp down.

I know on the the xtreme forum someone managed a 500MHz FSb but I don't understand how they did that as they didn't post detials that I can find.

I am contemplating selling the motherboard and buying a 975x based board as they seem to overclock alot more stable. I do believe I am paying the price for cutting costs and going with the cheap option.

If anyone has any ideas please post them I have tried to read as much as I can but still can not run stable above 3.02GHz.

Any ideas anyone?

Just an addition: ASUS support suggested the cosair twinX PC6400 after my origianl OCZ platinum would not work at all. I also tried OCZ titanium and value pro all failed. The cosair is running great I think but am not sure if it is clocking correctly as when set to 800MHz the board will not post.

I picked up the p5b deluxe wi/fi version the other day.
I'm running winXP with a core2due.

My sound doesn't work properly, I can get stereo working fine.

But when I set it to Quadraphonic the sound becomes unstable, it sounds like I am getting reverb and the volume cuts in and out and generally sounds too quiet as well.

I've also updated using the v5.10.01.4570 drivers but still no dice.

2 things

1) When you set DDR800 and then overclock it has the memory on a 2:3 divider which goes way over spec. Put it on DDR2-533 and then overclock.
2) Update your BIOS to the latest version. You are using an old revision.

to cmdrdredd:

Thanks for the DRR tip I will try it in the morning.

However as far as I know the 0309 bois is the latest bois for non-delux P5B boards, if I am wrong then can someone tell me where to find the latest. I have looked on the asus site and ran the update feature and still nothing new.

No worries easy mistake to make, inact I made it when I order the thing. Doh!!

To HauntFox:
You need to either flash the Bios or it maybe a Ram compatibilty issue. What Ram are you using?

Well this is driving me nuts, if anyone has any knowledge or advice it would be appreciated??

I've had a look around online and haven't been able to find anything, and the soundmax autodetect tells me that the front and rear lines are plugged into the correct jacks.
At the moment I am wondering if going for a sound card is the way to go rather than worrying about the issues I am having with the onboard audio!?

Apart from the issue above I have also got 3 chassis fans hooked up, it seems the PC Probe II program sometimes thinks that chassis fan 2 has stopped spinning (I know it hasn't), going into the bios seems to rectify the problem. Also it wont allow warning thresholds below 800 rpm, which is a pain since my psu is using a 12cm fan which runs just under 800rpm normally. But fan issues are just minor gripes and don't worry me too much provided they keep spinning.

@AlternateTheory

I have the same issue with the chassis fan 2. It report sin probe has not running but in teh bOIS is reports as running and I can see it running.

My AI suite does even open so I am not too happy with the sofware bundle to be honest.

I can't help on the sound I use a Audigy 2 ZS for sound and have no problems.

I tried Ai Suite, it opened and I tried out Ai Gear, I wasn't impressed since it basically fooled with bios settings without telling me what it did (I think it fools with Q-Fan settings etc).

As for the sound card I am thinking Audigy X-Fi, but that card is $$$ and I doubt I care about most of the features it has. But I do want a quality sound which wont steal my sys resources if I'm getting one. Ideally before I make a purchase I will find a solution to the onboard sound...

I think I'll get a sound card....cause my audio is crappy with my 4.1 speakers....I may look into the Audigy 2 ZS Danap is using. Any other audio cards installed successfully on the P5B Deluxe?

Get an audigy 2 zs they are cheap these days and have tons of features.

Anyway back to topic. I have managed to get a stable 400Mhz FSB running with memory set at DDR2-533MHz and 2.1v. (coorsair twinX PC6400 1Gb kit), however thats with a x7 multiplier if I go any higher the system does not POST or becomes unstable, I think that maybe to with temperatures as I am running idle at 58deg. C at stock clock speed according to probe.

Recieved my new P5B Deluxe the other day with an E6400 C2D and 2x1GB Gskill HZ DDR2-800
I installed the CPU and DDR2 and it booted right up even though it came with the 403 BIOS and supposedly had boot probs with the GSkill DDR2?
Installed WinXP at stock speeds, updated the BIOS to 605 and set the cpu at 8x400 for 3.2 , vcore 1.3 (bios)(1.26 cpuz) and it's been running at that ever since.
Nice and easy, no problems to report.

It is Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 and it is listed on the QVL
I might buy a cheap celeron and see if that works, and if it does I'll update the bios

That's right, my scores are better, but that's not my point.

I have a nForce 4 SLi based system and get better scores then a friend with a P5B Deluxe based system. Next to that, if you benchmarks both types of HDD's (the 200 and 250 version), you will see that the 250 is visible faster then the 200.

But my RAID with two slow HDD's is faster then his RAID with two fast HDD's, so it seems that there is something wrong with the RAID controller in the ICH8R

I have 7950 graphics card and wonder if it's running correctly.....when I check cpu-z
on the "mainboard tab/graphics interface", the width length equals 8 x...should it be 16 x? The next field "max supported" does show 16x.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU!!!! I am using Logitech z-640 speakers with the same symptoms. Anyway, here is the solution. go here:
ftp://asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/ad1988
and download the previous audio driver:
AD1988_WinXP_510014530.zip

That should fix it for you.

ya try the celeron root or RMA the board and have them flash it for you thats what I did and save myself £50.

I do have to say I am very closing to selling this baord on E-bay and going for 975x based board. They seem to overclock much easier and better.

Has anyone come up with an explanation for the double boot? Double restart? If you don't know what I am talking about when I do a cold boot or restart, the computer boots up for 1 second turns off, and then turns on a second time and boots up fine.

Awesome,

I finally managed to get that download, and surround sound now seems to be working fine.

Rig:
P5B Deluxe (BIOS 0507)
E6600
2x1GB Geil DDRII 800MHz 4-4-4-12 2,1V
2x HDD Seagate 320GB SATAII (RAID0)
GF 7900GT Gigabyte
DVD SAMSUNG SH-182
Hauppauge TVR-500 MCE

I put this together on saturday, updated BIOS, installed Windows XP MCE (it is HTPC).
I have one on-board (Intel) controller set to RAID (with 2xHDD), and JMicron JMB363 set to IDE (with DVD connected to it)
It seemed to be stable, but once I start either 3Dmark06 or PCmark05 it freezes after couple of seconds on the welcome screen. Nothing helps I have to hard-reset it everytime. 3Dmark05 works without any problems.
After many, many, many hours I found out that when I disable JMicron controller in BIOS everything is okay and I can run 3Dmark and PCmark with no problems.
But this is no solution for me as I have IDE DVD and even if I buy SATA DVD, I can't use it with my HDD's set to RAID.
I did not change anything in BIOS it's all default settings

Anone experienced something similar?
I am out of ideas so any help appreciated...
