Boards works ok. Would not post with G.Skill NS Ram or the overclockers Gold ram. Waiting for corsair's value ram to come. Using crap from best buy right now.

Other than everything is great. I love it.

What Corsair RAM did you get?

I'm thinking about getting this board and 2GB of DDR2 but all the PC6400s are like $200+ dollars. Should I just get 666MHz? how much different does it make?

I have the 6600 and 7950. Graphics were running really slow. I had to update to some beta bios and then it started working fine.....got 9000 3dmark06. My problem now is that multiplier on my cpu is stuck on 6. Should be at 9.

I'm trying to decide between Corsair and OCZ RAM for this motherboard (the p5b, not the deluxe). Advice welcome:

Corsair:
Corsair PC-6400 2x1024MB XMS2, $180
http://labs.anandtech.com/alllinks.php?pfilter=4586

OCZ options:
OCZ PC-6400 2x1024MB EL Gold GX XTC, $160
http://labs.anandtech.com/alllinks.php?pfilter=4555
OCZ PC-6400 2x1024MB EL Gold, $164
http://labs.anandtech.com/alllinks.php?pfilter=1971

Prices are after rebate, but include shipping.

Is anyone aware of any compatibility issues related to this motherboard/ram combination?

Thanks,
-B

Berliad, I've heard people say Corsair is more compatible than the OCZ at the moment. I'm going to do with the Corsair.
I'll probably order today.

I made a post about this a few days ago, but has anyone tried out the 0507 BIOS? Asus lists one of the new features as:

"Support Conroe CPU ratio adjustment"

Which makes it sound like it lets you change the clock multiplier. I guess it could just be referring to the X6800, which would be the most creditable possibility given that the rumors about similar capabilities on the Intel 975BX have been thus far unreplicable.

Intel CPU multiplier is locked at the CPU level, BIOS cannot change CPU lock. X6800 has unlocked multiplier.

However, BIOS can have memory multiplier/divider to decouple FSB to memory speed.

Not so...
You can down clock all retail Conroes if the board manufacturer writes it in his bios...

Currently the Gig.DS3 lower multipliers work fine with both the 6600 & 6700 Conroes.
So it's very likely the P5B 507 bios will also support it...

True.

I meant for OC PURPOSES one would want to inrease the multiplier which is not possible except for X6800.

Anyone knows if the P5B (ATX) and the P5B-VM (mATX) are similar to each other by anything other than just the name?

the (mATX) means that that board is microatx form factor. This means the board is physically smaller and may have less pci slots, less ports, etc.

Yea, I know that I was wondering if the features, mostly OC features are same for both boards, or are they an altogether different product only similar by name...

Generally the mATX mobos dont overclock as high as their ATX big brethren. Smaller mobos tend to have fewer features due to their small size. Doesnt mean they are bad just cant offer as much. And personally, I think they should make a sticky thread for each mobo model. It would certainly go a long way to help organize and track things on this forum. I hope the mods keep doing what they started.

Hello,

This is my first attempt at building a computer from scratch. I have a p5B Delux, E6400, and Freexer7 pro. I installed the cooler with the fan facing up (towards the top case fan on my Lian Li). Now I am confused, since the instructions for the Mobo say at one spot to hook the CPU fan plug to the "CPU FAN", but then it also says if you are useing a Dual Core CPU, hook the CPU fan to the plug marked "CHA_FAN1". I hooked it to the "CPU FAN". If that is incorrect, I need to turn the fan around (so that the fan is facing downward in the case) so that the plug reaches. So my question is - Did I do it right?

Thanks in advance,

Rappy

Question : Does the P5B motherboard support E6600 out of the box? If no, how do I flash the bios? Also, What ram is best?

I've just ordered a P5B motherboard, a E6600 and 2GB of 6400 G.Skill memory (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ).
After reading some forums I'm a bit concerned that I will be getting issues with this lot.
I will report once I've assembled & tested the new machine.

@Dan-

I think you probably will have issues. I was putting mine together last night (E6600 and 2GB of 6400 G.Skill memory, F2-6400CL4D as I recall). I had OS installed and everything running ok except that the memory would drop down to lower speeds and I got that wierd "CPU uCode Error" message on start-up, so I flashed 0507 bios in hopes that it would fix these problems. The window's logoff screen was the last thing that my computer has told the monitor to display; I couldn't even get it to post after that. I am planning on getting some of the Corsair Twin2X 6400C4 Memory. Grr, three more days before I get to play with my new toy, and for the time being it's just a big glorified $2000 paperweight with some working fans and a few LEDs! Does anyone hear use this memory with this board? I would like to have a little more assurance that it will work so that I only have to RMA to NewEgg once. Also, would an Intel system with it's non-integrated memory controller see a benifit if I went for the Corsair ram with tighter latencies, the Twin2X 6400C3? I'd rather not spend $100 extra if it isn't going to make any difference on my system. Thanks.

@rappy You did it right, hook up you CPU cooler fan to the CPU_FAN. CHA_FAN1 is for the case fan. I didn't hook anything up to any of those CHA_FAN headers and everything works just fine.

@Hellthorn. Yes this board supports the E6600 right out of the box. As for RAM check the compatibility QVL charts at asus.com. It will give you specific part numbers that are tested to be compatible with the board.

Right. My P5B Deluxe posted the 1st time. You will need to update the BIOS after you get Winxp installed, though. During the post you get a Ucode error that the BIOS update fixes.

I sent this to G.Skill US tech support :
-------------------------
I am going to buy 2GB of G.Skill memory (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) with an ASUS P5B motherboard and I would like to know if you are aware this motherboard combined with this memory and a Conroe E6600 will work.

I came across several reports mentioning the ASUS P5B having issues with this memory...
-------------------------

They replied with :
-------------------------
F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ is compatible with P5B no problem at all

Thank you

Yen

GSKILL USA REP

For another reason that the G.Skill may not work with this motherboard I instead ordered a 2GB kit of Ballistix DDR2-800.

I will let you know if this works with the stock P5B bios.

By the way there is a new bios on Asus FTP, the 0309, released 2 days ago :

couple of questions.
i have 508 on my deluxe is the 308 a bios only for the std model or ???
file date is newer but why a smaller number?

bios question....how do you set the memory to 1:1 ratio
mine shows 2:3 in windows under cpu-z

ok here is my problem with this board and processor

I have p5b deluxe and have a LOT of problems with it and a 6400 processor.
I can't figure out if its the cpu or the mb.
2 gig of HZ gskill memory and ninja cooler.
Fresh install it ran ok. OC to 333 fsb with only a little bit more cpu voltage.
BUT the temps are high.. 48C idle and 58C with prime running.
Well I am thinking all kind of things but why this how...damn
So I go back to stock settings idle at 45C and max temp is 54C

SO I got crazy and wanted to see how high it would go, oc and temps
so I ended up at 1.435 volts on cpu and 2.1 on memory and 410 fsb.
MAN this thing is great but temps were way high.
53C idle and 62-63C with 2 primes running.

So I shut it down and back to stock.
NOW the problems begin.
even at idle the temps are 47C idle and 58C stressed in XP.
volts are 1.3 core and 2.0 memory

WT heck is going on after that oc now everything is running hot as you know what.
So I remove the ninja and clean everything and re apply ac5.
SAME THING.
and to beat it all after I get home last night I tried the system and at stock everything
it boots to windows and after a short time it won't even open a file or if it does it may or may
not run, without giving me a windows error with the report this message box.

what did I do wrong?

thanks for any and all ideas....does this sound like a mb problem or a cpu problem or both?
