Berliad,
I'm using Ballistix 2x1GB PC6400 in my P5B deluxe. I needed the 614 BIOS to make it work right, and it's using auto voltage which is certainly not 2.2V

The BIOS detects the size(2x512) correctly, but no way will the system boot any kind of operating system.
(see thread here).

set voltage and timings per spec manually.

Ok, here is the problem I am having since I tried building my first system ever:

using the following components-

Intel Core 2 duo Conroe 6400
P5B Deluxe WiFi
2 GB RAM (4x 512 MB DDR2 333 Elpida)
Maxtor 300 GB Diamondmax SATA HD
ATI Radeon X600 Pro PCI-E graphics card
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case
Chiefmax 680w PS
NEC MultiSync FE700 monitor

After assembling all of this, I tried turning it on. All the fans worked, all the lights came on, and everything seemed to work...until it came time for the monitor to turn on..and it didn't.

The fan on the Radeon works, and everything has power, but there's some issue I just can't recognize. Any help at all on how to fix this would be great.

Thanks

Do you guys think the p5b's are going to work with quad core via a bios update? I'm kinda holding off building till this info is "leaked".

What do you mean leaked? It's already listed in the 614 BIOS release notes for kentsfield.

I've seen many people on forums post pictures of an engineering sample Quad Core CPU in a P5B

This has been happening to quite a few people with the P5B Deluxe, including me. I have already RMA'd the board and am waiting for a replacement. I'm not positive that's the problem, but everything I tried wouldn't fix it. Other people with the problem haven't posted any fixes for it either, except for one who forgot to plug in the 8-pin power connector on the motherboard. So make sure you did that too.

I just placed an order for a P5B Deluxe.

Is there a back plate for mounting aftermarket heatsinks pre-attached to the board?

I have a scythe ninja I want to use, but I've already used up the sticky back plate on my old board, and I'd prefer to avoid having to buy their retention kit just to use it.

Thanks,

hey guys ive just built a new system based around core 2 duo here are my specs:

intel core 2 duo e6400 @ 2.13ghz
asus p5b- deluxe
2 gb geil ddr800 4-4-4-12
nvidia 7600gs
wd 160gb hdd
pioneer dvd rom
avermedia tv tuner
windows xp pro

The trouble is the system just seems really unstable in windows. Ive run 3d mark 06 and the system works ok with it but it keeps crashing all the time whilst using internet etc, i dont understand whats wrong and its starting to piss me off as my 3 year old pentium 4 was much more reliable. Ive looked in the event viewer and it lists a huge number of errors about the cd drive and j micron. I know its a long shot but does anyone have any ideas whats wrong or should i just start taking out components until it stops crashing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you updated to the latest BIOS? Not sure that would help, but its worth a shot. I do have a question for you though. Where do I find this "Event Viewer"?

yea it has the latest bios. If you go into control panel, administrative tools, event viewer you can look at all the errors that have ocurred with your system.

What he means is the "Event Viewer" in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer>System

You basically see what kind of errors are halting the system, albiet very brief and not detailed but at least you know if it's unstable and what's causing it.

This sounds to me like the same problem I was having with the OCZ memory, even at stock settings I was having memory errors. Try running Prime95 or Memtest86 to confirm this problem. The P5Bs DH and Vanilla are known to have memory compatibility probslems. I switched to Corsair Twin2X PC2-6400s and now it's finally stable.

BTW, Does anyone know how to run Prime995 in 2 instances to create 100% CPU usage? I googled it and haven't found a solution despite running the command -a1
still gets 50% usage no matter what I do.....anyone?

WiFi-AP - is it safe to remove the card from the Mobo?

I don't need it, and see it only as something (a) drawing unnecessary power (b) creating unnecessary heat (c) potentially causing unnecessary hardware/software problems!

Many thanks

Correct me if I'm wronge, but yeah, it's completely optional. Just remove the CNR device(is it?) from the mobo.

EDIt: actually, looking at the P5B DH Deluxe board layout it doesn't seem removable *SEE PIC Near "5". Although it is in PIN configruation and I noticed a screw holding it from the back of the PCB. Try removing the screw and pull out the pin header. if not,I guess what you can do is disable it in the BIOS and System hardware devices.

Ok I'm finally running 100% using Prime95 with Small FFTs..

My core temps are really high, 55C and 67C max load. I swear I was getting 46C idle earlier..

Any ideas why? Is CoreTemp accurate?

Which Heatsink Fan do you guys recommend? I was looking at either the Zalman 120M orb/fatality coolers or the ThermalTake Typhoons..

I use the Zalman and I run at about 36c idle. Haven't tried maxing out everything yet, but the highest I've seen with regular usage (few games, regular windows, some DVD ripping) is 48c.

Which exact model is that? Because I can't seem to find your 6600, there is the FS-C77 as well as the CNPS9500 & CNPS7700 series... I'm not sure which one to go for at the moment since I'm not sure if the board is compatible and I'm not too fond of the 9500's price...

LOL, looks like my eariler message was lookin' pretty blank!

I think I was going to say something about not being able to boot into the o/s while using Corsair cm2x512a-6700 dimms. I'm wondering if anyone else has had such a problem?

As another stated earlier, make sure you have the timings and vooltage set to its standard spec. Make sure you have the latest BIOS too. That's all I can tell ya

It's the CNPS 9500

Alright, I think I hit a brick wall and can't seem to get it stable any higher with the stock heatsink. I currently have it at 403FSB and running 3.224Ghz., which I'm pretty happy with since I have a P5B Vanilla. I'm going to be picking up a Zalman Fatality CS77 with some Artic Silver 5 to go with that, perhaps I can get higher. Not sure what is limiting me, but it's most likely heat or the motherboard (no 8 phase power) and not memory since I've seen some people reach 450-500 FSB with the same memory.
