I recently just put together a system with this PB5 Deluxe using a e6300.

I sysprepped the os.
The install of the mobo/cpu/ram went well.
Sysprep worked awesome.

Installed all the drivers etc
Notice I the onboard sound had problems with crackling.

So I went into bios and try to see if I could but this thing up a little.
I tried 300 and that seem to work well.
I noticed that the system would power down then power off if you change the settings in bios. I'm assuming that was normal.

Well now the problem is that the system will not post.
At first I thought it might just not like the overclock I did.
It goes off, then on in a cycle.
I've tried removing cmos battery, resetting cmos several times and still it powers on then off in a cycle.

Even tried a suggestion in this thread,by powering it up with no memory, video, etc just cpu. No Beeps or anything still will power on then off in a cycle.

New Build System Specs
Asus P5B Deluxe
Core 2 Duo E6300
Crucial 10th Anniversary DDR2-667
OCZ ModStream 450 Modular PS
7900gt - From old system
etc

Does anyone else think that the board maybe defective?
I've know the videocard works since I'm typing on a Amd system with it.
Cannot test ram or cpu in another system though.

I noticed that when I turn mapping on in the bios, the bios correctly reports 4 gigs, but XP reports 2 gigs. When I turn mapping off in the bios, the bios reports 3 gigs, but XP reports 3 gigs as well (which is the better option I suppose).

So I want to install Vista RC1 (I can't seem to get RC2 anymore... Did they cancel that download?), but I can't, because it always says :

"a required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now".... This happens regardless of the JMicron bios settings to AHCI, IDE, RAID. I downloaded the JMicron raid drivers from the asus site, and popped in my USB key, and vista is always telling me after I select the driver at installation "no new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media".

Argh! So I can't install Vista RC1 to see by 4 gigs of Ram. <pulling hair out>

Thanks,

Mal.

Has anyone been able to get a secondary graphic card working in the other pci-e x16 slot (blue, that only works in < x4 mode)? I have tried two cards. First one was geforce 6200 and windows found it, but since my primary graphic card is ati x1950 pro, the drivers seemed to conflict. Second one that I have been trying is ati x300, but it doesn't even get recognized by windows. It works perfectly if in the blue x16 spot. Black is the one causing the trouble.

I am not interested in Crossfire, just want to get three monitors working. Any solutions?

I have a question about the P5B Deluxe with a QX6700.

I'm considering buying a QX6700 along with a P5B Deluxe. According to the AnandTech article on Kentsfield motherboard compatibility, Kentsfield works on the P5B Deluxe starting with BIOS revision 0709. What I'm wondering is how high the chance is of me getting a P5B Deluxe equipped with an older BIOS revision that 0709 when I buy it at the end of November, over here in Europe - and if do end up getting one with an older revision, will it prevent me from booting and successfully flashing with the QX6700?

Basically, is Asus shipping boards with recent BIOS revisions out of the box, and how recent will the stock be at the more popular German online hardware retailers?

BTW, sometime PCProbe (latest v1.03.05) has CPU temp "jumping" to 85c when loaded. This is weird since Intel TAT reports only 50-60. This problem goes away after restarted windows. (Usually, PCProbe reports temp close to TAT).
Anyone experienced this problem/observation?

I was thinking about picking up a P5B deluxe and a e6600. In the first couple pages there are several reports of compatibility problems. Are they still common enough that I should be looking for another board?

After finding out the the 680i still has a lot of bugs to be fixed, I thought I'd go for my original mobo choice for a E6400 board, the Asus P5B Deluxe. Looking at the reviews section in Newegg.com, There seemed to be a lot of issues on this board I didn't know about.

For Instance: is it true that you cannot install WindowsXP Pro.sp2B on this board?

EDIT::EDIT
Actually, there are a few reviews on that link that mention bugs that seem kinda serious....

I have no problem installing XP SP2. Never heard of that problem before. AFAIK from reading at beginning of this thread. No one mentioned it.
I guess it seems to be isolated incident...

OK, maybe a silly question, but I can't seem to get the search to actually search for 'usb' and 'boot' in this thread....doh!

Anyway, how do you make this Asus P5B-E boot from a USB flash drive?

I can't seem to find an option in the Bios' boot options for 'USB key' or some such......

:?

Glarg...I just got my Wi-Fi and it won't even post.
Rev 1.03 board, trying it with a S12 500W, GF7900GTX, and 2GB of OCZ Gold PC6400. I've tried one stick as well, taking the batteries out, resetting the jumpers, etc...still nothing. It just refuses to post :\

How's the wifi feature on that version of the board? I'm deciding between the Deluxe version and the Wifi version. Will it essentially replace the need for a wireless router? Or is it just for picking up a wifi signal for accessing the Internet? Sorry for the silly question, just never had wifi on a motherboard before.

It's a wireless card, to be used in conjunction with a wireless router.

I'd suggest the non WiFi version + wireless PCI/USB card, as from everything i've heard, the WiFi card is crap.

(I haven't tried mine; it was the first thing i removed since i didn't need it )

Thank you--I expected as much. Makes my decision easy then.

I'm just trying to decide now between getting an E6400 or E6600, and whether to get Cosair XMS2 6400C4 RAM or 6400C4D (Dominator) RAM. Any thoughts?

NM I figured it out - and for those of you that aren't that clever (like me):
1. Plug in USB *before* booting
2. Go into setup (USB initialization should recognize the USB mass storage device)
3. Under 'Boot' options, select "Hard Drives" and choose the USB drive as Drive #1
4. Save & Exit

That should make it boot to the USB, and if the USB isn't there, it will default to your HD.

Err...just a quick question. If I have NO video card and NO sticks of RAM, is the motherboard supposed to give me error beeps? I know previous ones I've had would do that...but my P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi AP won't do anything except turn on and power things, no matter what configuration of hardware I have attached - is this normal (non-beeping at all)?

Do this.

get a single DDR2 533Mhz 512Mb mem stick somewhere and plug it in.
be sure that when you power up first time there is only CPU and MEM stick.
then power down and install your pci-e gpu card.
power up and you should see some post messages.
power down again and now install only 1 stick of DDR2 800Mhz at first.
powerup and power down and now install the next mem sticks.

if you encounter no post screen again then repeat.

remember that no IDE or SATA devices are connected when doing this!

Seems like ASUS f**ked this board with bios code no matter which version.

The board doesn't have a speaker on it so no beeps for me.

if you're talking to DeathSniper that is totally irrelevant to his question. He said he was wondering if the board should have a beep at post without things like memory plugged in.
