I know previous ones I've had would do that...but my P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi AP won't do anything except turn on and power things, no matter what configuration of hardware I have attached - is this normal (non-beeping at all)?

The board doesn't have a speaker on it so no beeps for me.

TY.

Thanks for that advice too Tony - I'll be trying out another stick of RAM in a few hours...jeeze. Haven't had this much trouble since I put together my original Pentium :\ I *hope* that solves the POST issue at least...

get a single DDR2 533Mhz 512Mb mem stick somewhere and plug it in.
be sure that when you power up first time there is only CPU and MEM stick.
then power down and install your pci-e gpu card.
power up and you should see some post messages.
power down again and now install only 1 stick of DDR2 800Mhz at first.
powerup and power down and now install the next mem sticks.

if you encounter no post screen again then repeat.

remember that no IDE or SATA devices are connected when doing this!

Seems like ASUS f**ked this board with bios code no matter which version.

if you're talking to DeathSniper that is totally irrelevant to his question. He said he was wondering if the board should have a beep at post without things like memory plugged in.

I was answering to DeathSnipers message about :

Rev 1.03 board, trying it with a S12 500W, GF7900GTX, and 2GB of OCZ Gold PC6400. I've tried one stick as well, taking the batteries out, resetting the jumpers, etc...still nothing. It just refuses to post :\

Question on RAID.

Fresh install of WinXP w/ ICH8R on IDE. Install INF driver. Change ICH8R to RAID...BSOD.

Back to IDE, Matrix driver won't install lol. (no supported hardware, hehe)

So am I to assume F6 driver's required if I'm going to keep all drives (including boot) on ICH8R SATA ports? Makes sense, just didn't wanna hassle w/ the floppy. USB Flop works ok for this?

Cheers,

Jod

Hi I'm new to the forums and new to building computers for that matter. I just put together a computer using the P5B Deluxe mb and after i installed PC Probe II it was showing my motherboard temp at 124C! However my CPU temp is idling at around 32-33C. I have an E6600 @ 2.4 processor installed with a Zalman 9500 heatsink.

I'm assuming there is something wrong with the sensor for the motherboard as the CPU is running cool and air inside the case is cool.

I would appreciate any input anyone may have to help this n00b.

EDIT: The bios is also reporting the temperature at 124C

Odd, did you get the latest PCProbe?
Also, try Speed fan 4.31.

Couldn't get the damn floppy to work, but nlite happily took care of this. Only problem's one unknown device:

Location: on Intel(R) ICH8/ICH8R Family LPC Interface Controller - 2810

Any ideas? I only slipstreamed the RAID drivers, not the AHCI...was that no good?

EDIT: It's PC Probe.

I saw this question earlier: compatibility issues (if any) between the E6600 and the P5B Deluxe? I'm getting ready to place an order and I'd sure hate to be unpleasantly surprised.

Also, I seem to remember reading about sound issues, but maybe I'm just dreaming.

Take those Newegg reviews with a LARGE grain of salt. I just built two new P5B Deluxe/Wifi machines, installed directly from a new WinXP SP2 CD with no glitches whatsoever.

I just installed SpeedFan 4.31, then updated the exe to 4.32 beta 4, which adds temp monitoring for the individual cores. Strangely, the P5B family of boards isn't listed at all in the MB list on the SpeedFan site. Is it possible to get SpeedFan to control the fan speeds with this board? Also - what's the "AUX" temp, which is always the highest - I'm guessing its the Northbridge, but that's just a guess.

Anyone experienced this problem/observation?
Haven't seen that, but it turns out that Intel TAT isn't measuring the same thing that PCProbe is. I just installed SpeedFan 4.32 beta 4 which says "This beta adds full support for INTEL CORE internal temperature readings." SpeedFan now lists 3 CPU temps - CPU, Core 0 and Core 1. CPU tracks PCProbe readings almost exactly, and Core 0 & Core 1 track Intel TAT (and are always a few degrees higher than "CPU").

Just a little update on cracking/popping sound on my P5B Deluxe Wifi.
It's gone now! Bad driver before on XP. Now I'm on Vista (32-bit, release version) and vista driver behave much better. No cracking/popping plus I have full control on output (front vs rear panel ) Good job M$.
Nevertheless, I still can't find driver for the Wifi card on the Vista yet...

Hi, can anyone tell me whether the P965 boards support the DDR2 mem frequencies under 800mhz? like 667 etc.
cos on the newegg site it mentions that 'all p965 board are only compatible with DDR2 800', i'm planning on buying the ASUS p5b-e with some budget 667 patriot ram and it would suck if it didn't work

thanks

ps. does anyone have anything bad to say about the P5B-e? anyone experiencing DOA boards etc???

Thanks.

Unlocking up & down for multiplier is for X6800 only. The E-series only unlock down multiplier.

I'm looking at the P5B Deluxe for my next rig......

I've read some reviews and posts where either people are retarded or the board really has a problem........ they can't install XP w/ SP2 on a SATA drive??

What's up with that? Is that true or are some people really that dumb?

edit
Looking for ram recommendations as well... for some good OC'ing!

I just got the Asus P5B motherboard with the E6600 and 2gb of OCZ PC-6400 ram, and i was having a lot of problems at first, but ive got them all solved now. First it would not start properly, it would start then restart and then nothing just a few fans running, but i got that solved took a total of 10 hours atleast to get it to start up, i had to switch to usb plugs, dont no why it didnt work the one way, but it worked the other way, so im not goin to question it, and now i cant load the audio drivers, it says i need HDA audio bus driver

It's your ram, there's a known issue with the OCZ gold.

Also, if you have any other DDR2 available to you, you might try using that to POST, then change the RAM voltage to like 2.1, then put your OCZ back in.

I know there was an issue but I know quite a few people who have had success with OCZ Gold. I've tried other ram too (including Corsair Value and Crucial Ballistix) and no go - seems like my board was faulty and I'm RMA'ing it. Moving the same stuff into a regular P5B and it posts just fine

Got a P5W DH Deluxe instead...was really looking forward to this one too

Ah well.
