My P5B Deluxe Bios for a e4400 says ratio status unlocked, max 10, min 06.

I've tried enabling and disabling 'modify ratio support', but it remains unlocked. Speedstep is disabled too.

Anyone know how to lock in the multiplier ratio?

All P5B and Dlx mobo owners should update to latest BIOS! I had problems with old bios and now all fine with latest. However i still have to press the power button twice to boot my
PC, Rest all is fine OC to 2.4 on air.

Cor memory works fine with with my P5B and it is E6600+E6700 ready out of the box. Update to latest BIOS and P5B will be quad-core ready!

Thanks for the welcome

Yep, latest 1101 bios. Just wondering who's giving permission for the clock to go up and down.

Mine when I unlock the multiplier, it doesn't even show the multi I can choose. But my processor is the E6400.
I can change from 8x, to 7x and 6x.
I don't know why this is happening in your system.
Did you try to clear the CMOS?

With Speedstep disabled, is your multiplier actually changing in Windows? I think the modify ratio support or whatever just allows you to choose lower multipliers (as I do on my E6600 I use 8x) but it does not let it 'float' up and down to save power/heat. Mine never drops from 8x.

I'm trying to search, but I must be doing something wrong and it doesn't seem to be working so if my question was already answered, I apologize.

I have the P5B-e normal board and everything seems to be working except for the ethernet port. Right now windows is telling me that my network cable is unplugged (which it isn't) and I'm not really sure what is going on. I have the ethernet drivers installed and some network bridge works, but the actual ethernet isn't. The only odd thing I have in my computer right now is I have an IDE controller card installed so I can hook up my disc drives as I have IDE hard drives and am using the one IDE port. Could that be the problem? Any suggestions?

Have you tried a different network cable?

Well, I downloaded all of the windows updates with this cord, but I just switched it and still get the same behavior.

edit: Is it possible that the IDE controller card is interfering with the ethernet controller? I'm going to uninstall it for now anyway as it isn't currently working, but I'm curious if that could be true.

edit2: Well, doesn't seem to be the IDE controller as I just removed it and the internet is still out. If I take the attansic card off the bridge, then it jumps between being unavailable to available. It's really weird. The drivers are from 10/31/2006. Do newer versions of the driver fix some issue like this?

edit3: What is the network bridge? It isn't what is causing the problem, but I've never something like that before...

Hey Guys, I need help.

This is the first issue I've ever had with an Asus Mobo.

I've been tasked to build a system with these specs:

P5B
Pentium D 915
Kingston KVR667D2N5/1G

I was trying to do a fresh install of XP SP2 from an IDE CD drive, and midway through the setup process, I am informed that the program can't copy certain files. I tried to reinsert the disk. it proceeded for a while, then same copy error. I tried 4 different discs, restarting the setup program every time, same error. I figured it was the ribbon cable, so I replaced it. Same error. Then I used 2 other CD drives, brand new, still no go. It just wouldn't complete copying files for Windows Setup.

Then I thought maybe the CPU/Memory combination was the culprit. So I replaced the CPU with a stock P4 HT I had, I still got the same error.

The drives, cables, and discs I used all worked fine on a P5P800 board. So what is wrong?

Why won't Window's XP install? The setup program starts, it partitions the HDD, copies a few files, then kaput at random files. Any idea why this is happening?

Do you think trying a SATA CD/DVD drive would be prudent? Or is replacing the memory a better option?

Crimson, I've had that same problem before and it turned out to be a bad stick of RAM. I'd just randomly get copy errors when trying to install things. So I'd suggest trying it with one stick of ram at a time and see if you have the same issues.

shadowane,

Try to remove the Bridge connection you have on your LAN.
You should not have a bridge connection, unless you set it to, or your ISP requires that.

Last night I disabled the bridge and took the other two pieces off it. That allowed me to get some access, but only because it would swap between connected and disconnected. Do I have to do more to get rid of the Network Bridge?

Still no luck. I tried another identical stick, still random copy errors. Memtest on another pc says all sticks I've used so far are ok. I tried using a working DDR2-533/512 Kingston stick from another pc, still the same errors.

So, to recap:

P5B + Pentium 4 HT + Any memory I've tried (DDR2-667, DDR2-533) + Any WinXP Install disc = random copy errors
P5B + Pentium D 915 + Any memory I've tried (DDR2-667, DDR2-533) + Any WinXP Install disc = random copy errors

All I'm left with is the JMicron Controller. Any IDE DVD Drive I use = random copy errors.

I ordered a SATA DVD Drive, see if that will do the trick. If it doesn't, help! I have no Idea what to do with all this stuff that works on other pc's, but won't work together.

I Implore anyone with appropriate wisdom to help me. Please?

Have a new P5B-Deluxe with E4300. Running the latest 1101 BIOS. Easy 3.42GHz stable with 1.475Vcore and Big Typhoon. I think this chip will do 3.55GHz with a better cooler and 1.525Vcore. TAT is reporting 84F under 100% TAT and S&M heat load. Core is around 70F. Idles around 27C.

QUESTION: Speedstep in enabled in BIOS. If I keep my FSB under 270MHz, then Vcore will drop by about 0.2V when ramping down from 9x CPU multi to 6x. Above 280MHz FSB, Vcore is locked at the preset voltage, but the core speed will still decrease when Speedstep ramps down from 9x to 6x multi. Is this a bug in the BIOS? Is there a fix?

SpeedStep Vista 64

My CPU drops to x6 2.16 MHz Vcore 1.05v then at full load x9 3.24 MHz Vcore 1.32v.

What is the bug you are trying to fix?

I'm running WXP Pro XP1. My CPU core speed will drop to 6x when idling, but Vcore is still stuck around 1.45 (both at 9x and 6x). I use CPUz and Speedfan to check for the CPU voltage.

Which software are you using to check Vcore? Also which BIOS are you using?

I use CPUz to check Volts like you. I have bios BIOS 1101 (it is in my sig)

"I'm running WXP Pro XP1" ??? You don't have service pack 2 ??

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought SpeedStep was something to disable if you are overclocking? There are no problems running it at the same time as an overclock?? I'd love to be able to bring my temps/voltages down when I am not gaming!!!

Well then, SpeedStep is for you. I OC with it. But, when I am running a low load the MHz and Vcore go down. It changes my CPU from 9x to 6x. It is supposed to be a CPU feature Why use the power when you don't need it?

Enhanced SpeedStep Enabled x6 2.16 MHz Voltage: 1.05/ x9 3.24 MHz Voltage: 1.32 - Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium - Windows Vista Performance index 5.8

I prefer SP1. This is a clean install of windows. Are you using AUTO or manual when setting Vcore? I see that the AUTO setting will ramp up/down Vcore up to a point, then the value is locked-in above a certain threshold.

Why would you prefer XP1 ??? Maybe that is why SpeedStep does not work?
Maybe that is not it, But many things only work after the Service pack 2 update.

I have the Vcore set at 1.387
