Most all new PSU's have the 8 pin mobo connector, not to be confused with the 8 pin Video card connector of which only some PSU's to date have. Just try a google search or better yet, search in the PSU section of this fine forum

I seriously doubt 1201 will be the final bios. This mobo is relatively new and more bios versions are sure to come.

For what it is worth, I just replaced my P6N Diamond with the P5Q-E.

I did a clean install and it is amazing! I very happy with it so far, I have not done any OC'ing on it yet but this OCZ SLI 2x2 kit works great so far. I did a 24 hour memtest burn to test it out and it had no errors. Set on 5-4-4-15 2T @ 2.0v.

Love this board so far!!!!

Question - is there a shortcut that will let me select the device to boot from. I want to temporarily boot from CD, without messing with BIOS every time.

Need advice setting up the a new P5Q Deluxe with 5 HDD's & 3 optical drives, all SATA. I want to hook up the 5 drives on the ICH10R's SATA connectors 0-4, while the first dvd burner will go onto the last SATA connector 5. While the other 2 burners I want to connect to the extra 2 SATA ports provided with the SIL chip.

Is this possible, as the manual says the 2 SATA ports off of the SIL chip doesn't support ATAPI devices, on the other hand SIL website states that Sil5723 does support ATAPI devices [ http://www.sci-worx.com/products/product.aspx?id=103 | look under the 'Device Interface Features']; look's like ASUS might have gone cheap on a $200+ MB and deliberately left out ATAPI support, wither in BIOS or in real hardware!

So, how exactly am I to accomodate 5 HD & 3 optical drives, all SATA, on this MB; I have solved the same problem on a $40 ECS G31 mb with an add-in card but don't want to go the same route with a mobo that I've paid over $200 for & 8 SATA drives was the main reason for me buying this specific model!

It's interesting that the test show that the P5Q Deluxe beat out Maximum II most of the time.

Yep!

This has to be one of the most comprehensive comparative review of all modernity or at least the last century. Fifty four pages with about 232 pictures. Now we know what Tommy and his staff have been doing these last few months.

Yeah they did a really thorough testing on the P45 boards. I wonder if Anandtech will have a review to match this. I heard there's something going on.

I heard that if you're using Q9450, you should stay with 803 BIOS. the later ones has something new and that messes the Yorkfield up.

Sorry I can't help you but do you absolutely need 5 Hard drives and 3 Optical drives all SATA? $60,000 question is why so many drives? No IDE drives I take it. Sorry but I cannot see you pulling this off.

This is actually the million dollar question and I am glad you bring it up. I don't have this board yet but will be most likely purchasing it very soon. I have read the manual, studied its specs, and have read all of the reviews and it really looks interesting to me.

One thing that concerns me is why you and others have had to stick with a bios version from July 2 and four back from the newest bios release. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if the board was much older but this is a relatively new board and i don't get this.

Do you and others think the first three bios' were focused on the newer 45nm cpu's and and now Asus has been honing in on bios support for the older processors? If so,... should they not disclose this to everybody who keeps updating their bios to discover it breaks something because they have the wrong cpu for this particular bios revision?

I just set up a P5Q-E

E8400
HD4870
8GB Gskill pc8500
1 WD 640 AAKK booting to Vista Ultimate 64
2 WD 1TB blacks to be set up in a RAID 1 config for data
1 BlueRay SATA
1 Samsung SATA DVD writer
1 FDD

At frist I tried the drive expert w/ the pair of the WD 1TB, but it was S L O W as in less than 30 MB/sec. I plugged them both into regular SATA slots and they both perform as expected (100+ MB/sec )

SO, I go the BIOS and enable RAID, set the two drives as a RAID 1 array, but I can not boot into windows without a BSOD.

OK... lets try AHCI... same thing.

Windows will not start unless the drives are in IDE mode..

SO... after reading this and thread and searching around all afternoon I am looking for possible suggestions.

Windows will bluescreen if you change the mode of the system drive from IDE to AHCI or vice-versa... thats a problem with Windows drivers. I didn't feel like wasting time googling, so I just turned on AHCI and reinstalled Windows. I think that there are some workarounds out there somewhere, but if this is a new system, why bother with them?
