Originally I was going to go with the Abit IP35 Pro XE before I saw this board...

Does anyone have any thoughts as to the performance hit caused by this board using the 8X/8X road instead of the 16X/16X option when using dual GPU's?

I plan on using a 24" monitor on my new build eventually and figured I could somewhat future proof it by getting a MB that allows a Dual GPU setup.

What's the best CPU cooler to use with P5Q Deluxe and Q9450?

I was thinking about the Zerotherm FZ120 or a Zalman CNPS9700, but I am not sure if there are any clearance issues with this board.
If anyone has installed one of these, let me know if you had any clearance issues.

Also, I will be using the Corsair 2x2GB 8500C5D DDR2 which have tall heatsinks.

i definitely recommend the zerotherm fz120 (easily the best $40 cooler). i have a p5q deluxe, e8400, and an fz120 as my setup and have no clearance problems. you will find there is still plenty of room above the p5q's heatsinks.

no experience with your ram dimms so i can't comment on that.

tophman - from what i have read there should be no issue with x8/x8 crossfire with the current generation of graphics cards. i do not know how dual 3870x2's would handle though.

im using a thermalright ultra-extreme 120 with my p5q deluxe. it does touch a bit in the middle part of the heatsink (where it has the blue color and ASUS written on it) but other then that theres no issues with it.

im up to 425FSB with my Q9450 at 1.3vcore and everything else on auto. i dont think i need to go any higher with this board.

scratch that, i was able to lower the vcore to 1.2v! temps just dropped a ton as well.

i love this board..

Agreeing with others, this mobo is a joy to work with.

The Zalman CNPS9700 fits no problem. Also, to others asking about RAM, these sticks worked great outta the box at stock settings...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820134596

Kingston HyperX8500 4x1G stix for $120, not bad. The board worked no problems with all four slots filled and these sticks are off the QVL for this board.

Yes, I like the -E also, but it isn't in stock anywhere yet. I caved and ordered a Pro today.

I'm not sure why, my IP35-e works great. But need doesn't seem to guide many of my PC upgrades .

No reason why they shouldn't...my velociraptor was autodetected, just make sure you use one of the six "standard" sata ports.

a little off, but there is also an Maximus Formula II board coming out with the P45 chipset, does anyone know of any immediate benefits to it from this board?

Can anyone with a P5Q Deluxe comment on the capability of this board to even use the wifi bundled with the P5Q3 Deluxe? I'd hoped the DDR2 version would also have the wireless support (initial previews, including TR's, made it seem it would), however, it now appears that (according to the manual) the DDR3 version is the only board that has the add-on card.

Further it looks like the P5Q Deluxe doesn't even have the USB connector above the top PCIe x1 slot that the wifi add-on card would use, making it impossible to add it to the DDR2 version of the Deluxe.

The P5Q-E, on the other hand, looks to have that USB connector, so I guess I'm hoping for a P5Q-E with the same wifi-n add-on card of the P5Q3 deluxe, or for Asus to just start selling that wireless add-in separately.

Aside from that, the only difference I can see between the P5Q-E and P5Q Deluxe is that the deluxe has a heatpipe coming from the south bridge and more of the little PWM thingers around the LGA775 socket.

The E has dual lan ports and e-sata. The pro doesnt. And the E has a fancier heatpipe thing going on. But thats it.

Yes, you can do that if you're using an operating system that allows you to bridge the two connections, such as Windows XP (pro).

The P5Q-E also uses an Analog Devices audio CODEC, whereas the Pro uses a Realtek one.

Its strange how Newegg has the Limited non refundable policy on the P5Q-E and not the Pro.

mwave doesn't have a weird return policy on it, though it says they're out of stock and expecting them tomorrow.

Anyone with the P5Q Deluxe able to answer my question above?

Has anyone played around with the DriveXpert feature? I'm not entirely sure I understand it yet.

My first install used Raid-0 on the Xpert ports which was configured in the SSD Linux OS. Windows saw it as 1 drive @ the merged capacity. I was thrilled to skip the whole slipstream/F6 driver injection.

However, once everything was said and done, I had massive corruption of data, and instability. I'm willing to assume I botched the implementation, or perhaps it's a BIOS or Expressgate issue to be fixed in updates.

Just wondering if anyone else had this issue.

Also curious about running an array from the Xpert ports but without using the Expressgate software. I assume they can be used with both Controller drivers and the Xpert, since the Disk contains two different 'Floppy Disk Makers'

Moral of the post is that I dunno wtf I'm doing.

Installing the OS on my P5Q Pro as I type. Going great, and nice board. Installed like butter. Very similiar layout to the 'now-removed' IP35-e.

I love the design of my cheap-o CM Hyper TX2 HSF. The rear hood blows air directly on the mobo heatsink.

I think the Pro model was a good choice for me. Other than the jump to the DDR3 model, all the other stuff is true fluff. The Pro still has Firewire (useless) and Raid (useless to me).

Two ethernets is cool, but who doesn't have a router?

:thumbsup: from me at this point! Good product @ $150 shipped.
