Just put it all together and everything is working perfect. No problems with anything. I got this to replace the faulty Abit IP35-E I got originaly and it is much more reliable (no beeps or double booting). Everything works straight out of the box and just connect it up. I did have a bit of an issue getting my Saitek Cyborg mouse to be recognised. Not sure if its something to do with the drivers or whatever. Its working fine now. I can also confirm my Corsair Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 DHX Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12) memory is working fine no problems. No overclocking yet. Will post once started up.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB)
Asus P5Q Deluxe P45 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 DHX Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12)
Corsair HX 620W Modular PSU - ATX12V v2.2 APFC
Sony DRU-190S 20X DVD±RW DL & DVD-RAM Serial ATA
Maxtor 500GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm *32MB Cache*
Maxtor 250GB DiamondMax 21, SATA 300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache
Lian Li PC-7B PLUS II Aluminium Black Mid Tower Case
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler
Sapphire HD 3450 512MB DDR2 Dual DVI HDCP HDTV out PCI-E (will replace with XFX 9800 GTX Black Edition 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDCP HDTV out PCI-E when its out and I get some more cash)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional w/SP2c

Like I said everything at stock level and working fine. Nice job ASUS. At least the reliability is there. We will see how the OC goes. Just one other note, it seems to take a while for the system to start up for some reson. I mean the faulty Abit IP35-E took about half the time to start up compared to this but I can live with that.

I took a peek at the prices at zzf and the wi-fi deluxe is only priced slightly higher than the reg deluxe. My board p5q gets here on friday along with the rest of my components. I'm glad your ram worked Dok.

And this is why I don't early adopt...they just shaved $10 off the Deluxe and made the shipping free. Still waiting to see the -E or a discounted Pro before I decide what to get to upgrade my much-neglected desktop rig...

A note of warning to everyone. My mobo started fine and was working ok last night with everything installed. It recognised the 4GB of memory. However after a shut down last night and turning it on this morning it refused to start up. No beeping or anything. I had to remove one dimm of my memory and then it worked fine. I tested both, they both work individualy but not together. Read the list of supported memory which can be found in the manual. The:

Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 DHX Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12)

is not on there. I just got of the phone for a return to my supplier. They dont seem to sell any of the supported memory at a reasonable price so Im after a refund. I have just ordered the:

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400C4 (2x2GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK)

which is in the manual sa being supported.

Be careful when choosing and if you are planing to use your old dimm's, it may not be an option weather you like it or not. Everything else is working fine tho.

no I havent ordered yet. I recently bought a p5k dlx for another system; just got it today. also I am not sure if it would be worth getting the P5Q3 version which is available now or just get the P5Q. I have also heard that P35 is bang for buck better way to go; I am not sure. I know these mobos are running over 600FSB on the dual core cpu's though. was reading about it over at xtreme systems.

How do you like it? do you think its worth it over the P35? also not sure if I want to spend $200 even though i am sure its well worth it. would love to get the premium version, but I think that one will be around $380. this one probably has more than enough for what I need anyway.

I really like the Pro, personally, and it's at the top of my list (waiting to see the offerings from other manufacturers before I decide). It's still capable of CF, with its two PCIe x16. And I never really seem to find a use for the fancy extras, so stripped down is just fine by me.

As far as the versions of the P5Q - off the top of my head, there's the vanilla, the vanilla combo (DDR2/DDR3), the Pro, the E, the Deluxe, and the 3 Deluxe. Maybe's there's a Premium too, but I'm not really sure...

- Two versions of the Deluxe, one that takes DDR2 and one that takes DDR3.
- As far as I know, the only major thing the E lacks is the Deluxe's 16 power phases - it's got 8 instead. Visually, it's almost indistinguishable.
- The Pro has simpler cooling, and it has 2 PCIe x16 slots instead of 3. Also, it has 1 ethernet port instead of 2.
- The vanilla and the vanilla combo (P5QC) only have 1 PCIe x16 slot. The regular vanilla has a really bad ATX power connector placement. Seriously. Bad.

I actually also like the E, but that cooling looks troublesome for HSF compatibility...

EDIT: Actually...I'm not sure about the P5QC anymore. I can't tell if it's a regular P5Q with additional DDR3 slots, or a Pro with DDR3 slots. Someone else know?
EDIT 2: Went over to the ASUS P5Q site - the C looks like a vanilla with +2 DDR3 slots to me (so, only 1 PCIe x16). There was a early model, around Cebit 2008, that looked a lot more like the Pro. Guess they decided to change it...

Amber "I'm feeling you".
God, I need to stop watching Flavor of Love .

The Pro looks like all I need and I like the price point.......where did you find it priced the cheapest??? Kinda looks like Newegg at 150 and free shipping...

Factoring in shipping, I think NewEgg is probably the cheapest. There aren't that many places that have it in stock at the moment anyway .

I like the looks of the Pro @ $150...

Newegg doesn't have it, but the E model looks good too.

How many versions are there and what are the key differences??

I will see if i can hunt down the site that shows the difference between all the different variations of this board.

Also there will be a premium version that is overkill for most. It has 4 gigbit lan ports, 10 Sata ports along with a bunch of other things.

The only thing about the cheaper versions is how do they perform compared to the Pq5 dlx? I do not know if asus makes their boards to perform the same but just to have different features like Abit did with the P35 line. not sure If they do this. from past experience w/Asus they do not work like that, but would imagine that they would perform similarly.

Edit; here is one link to show some of the differences: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=548

here is a little info on the Premium: http://www.tcmagazine.com/comments.php?shownews=19976

off topic but i can give you my recommendation. i have always been very fond of dell's ultrasharp series and i noticed they have a 22" version now. i personally use their 24" and a 20" models in dual-display on my (now P45 express powered) workstation =P

What fabrication process is the x38 and x48 done on?

the main upgrade over a p35 chipset is the ability to run crossfire x8/x8 and it utilizes pcie 2.0 spec. the x38/x48 boards allow x16/x16 crossfire. another advantage over the p35 (and the x38/45) is the 65nm fabrication process which will consume less energy and give off less heat.

would you elaborate on the issues it causes as I'm not that knowledgeable on these things and I'll likely be dealing with it shortly.

The "normal" placement for the ATX power connector these days is on the right edge of the board, so that it's easy to route that cable there without it interfering with something, regardless of the case layout. And that placement also makes it very easy to remove. Here's a picture of the E. If you imagine it rotated 90 left, then that white ATX connector is going to be on the very right edge of the board.

The P5Q vanilla has it right in the middle of board towards the left side. It's too close to the video card slot, CPU heatsink area, rear IO ports, and one of the mounting holes. I can see it being a potential source of annoyance when you're installing the board, and a source of pure aggravation when you're uninstalling it.

Also, if you're using a case that routes cables behind the motherboard tray (in my case, my desktop rig uses a CM 590), then your PSU cables probably aren't going to be long enough to reach all the way across the board. You'll have to have the cables in plain view instead of behind the tray.

Get the Pro model......it is only a few dollars more, has the better layout, and a little better cooling. link

i would agree most people would see the atx placement as bad..most, but not all..it may well be that asus had in mind trying to make both htpc users more happy with this board. as i have a silverstone htpc case, the placement of the atx and cpu power connectors are perfect as follows:

a) typical edge of board power connector gets stuck underneath my dvd player cage causing me to have to remove the cage anytime i want to remove the power connector.

b) the cpu power on both my abit ip35 pro and both gigabyte boards i had before (p965 and p35 boards) was an issue if i wanted to access that connector without having to remove the heatsink. right by the edge for that connector works perfectly as i can access it through a side fan mount right there.

c) any atx connector on the right side of the board in my htpc case is a pain..i'll have to bring the cable across the mobo either way.

again, i don't disagree most will probably find it a dumb design but for me, almost perfect.
