No one has gotten the regular p5q? Is it that bad? I'm about to place my order tomorrow, just trying to get a 8400 to 3.6 to run 1:1 with the 4gb gskill ddr2-800 i just bought.

I'm sure the regular is fine.......but consider the Pro, it is only a few dollars more.

i got the regular plion, simply because i needed the 3 pci slots in that placement (multiple tuner cards and a sound card..hard to find 3 pci slots these days in a row like that) easy build and i love the board but it turns out yeah, that atx power connector placement coudl be a big beatch

everyone is better off getting the P5Q Pro or higher (P5Q-E, Deluxe, Premium)..the P5Q isnt worth it at that price when the pro is a few dollars more.

did anyone flash the bios to the beta 702/703/704 (whichever one it is) that was posted on the P5Q Deluxe xtremesytems.org forums? i was thinking about it...but the the 610 bios is definitely stable for me.

well, not everyone is better off..many in the htpc community still require mobos with 3 pci slots...i had to skip over the last 2 generations of asus boards due to lack of 3 slots or the way they are laid out, a vid card with an aftermarket cooler covers a slot

i flashed to the 0703 bios right after building the system. no issues..doing some mild overclocking..running cool at 8 x 425 on my quad with 1.25 volts (cpu voltage set on auto still)

Just switched my DFI out for the P5Q Deluxe.

Haven't even re-installed Vista yet, but i'm liking what i see in the bios, as well as ExpressGate.

Pretty sweet to be able to boot into an OS in seconds & get online

Anyone with the P5Q Deluxe:

Does the board have the USB header between the top PCIe x1 slot and the audio ports? Pictures and the manual make it look like they removed it from that model for some reason that I can't fathom.

They did indeed remove it.

I took a bunch of pics (it's a beautiful board ).

You get 6 rear ports + two headers for 10 ports total (assuming no hubs).

do you need EPS Power Supply in ordre to boot up the system? can i just use 4-pin ATX to boot up the system?

The manual say" dont forget to connect 4-pin/8-pin EATX connector otherwise, the system will not boot."

Four pin is fine for me w/ an EarthWatts 430. Oddly enough there is a removable cover over the second half, leaving only 4 exposed in the first place.

oh it works with just a single 4 pin eatx connector? i was also under the impression that it needed both 4-pin connectors attached..there was a removable cover on the second half of my mobo as well.

I'm in love with this board.

Got my Q6700 ES to 3.6 GHz without breaking a sweat. I could probably go higher but I'm afraid to pump any more voltage into my chip, I'm already @ 1.525 in the bios and full load temps are in the high 60's. With my Gigabyte 965P I was hardly able to get the same chip stable at 3.3 and I was having a ton of memory issues. Same hardware except for the board.

And oh yeah driver-less raid. My Windows setup went without a hickup.

I think Asus just got themselves a lifer.

I have really been confused as to which Mobo to get to replace my aging system. I already bought a Q6600, but other than that I am getting new RAM and new GPU and PSU. I started looking at this board today and thought it might be a good one, but after reading some of the posts here I am confused again.

I thought in the Anandtech review here: Anandtech review of P5Q3 Deluxe

That the board could handle DDR2 or DDR3 since they reference both OCZ DDR2 and DDR3 RAM in their Test system configuration.

But posters on this thread point to the Tech ARP ASUS P5Q comparison chart showing that the P5Q3 is DDR3 only.

I was really hoping to save some money and go DDR2, feeling confident because it was mentioned in the Anandtech review. Can anyone shed any light on this? Did I misread that specification in the review? Is the chart a more accurate picture?

I don't plan on overclocking, I am really looking for stability.

Thanks in advance for any replies

There are two versions of the Deluxe. The P5Q Deluxe (DDR2 only). And the P5Q3 Deluxe (DDR3 only). The easy way to tell them apart at a glance is by looking at the RAM slots - the DDR2 board has bright yellow slots, the DDR3 has burnt orange colored slots.

i finally got my Asus P5Q running.

PC spec:

Asus P5Q
e8400
4 GB from Gskill PQ memory

i am wondering what is the highest temp that e8400 can handle.

how do i turn off the speedstep on the bios? even though i turn off the speedstep on the bios, it is still doing it.

i noticed that in the manual as well. i ended up using the 8-pin connector from a corsair 520hx and have no problems. i did not try using just the 4-pin connector.

currently running my xeon e3110 (wolfdale) at 3600mhz/400fsb @ 1.208v (cpuz under load). my old dfi p35 bloodiron required 1.225v to run the same speed stable. i am also running g.skill ddr2-1000 5-5-5-15 @ 1.96v at 500mhz.

definitely liking this board!

I'm using a P5Q with 4 x 1 GB Patriot PC2 5300 from my previous build. I need to put the Patriot back in the old machine for the family so I want to purchase new memory anyway.

Is anyone using 4 x 2 GB, and if so, what model?

im using 2x2GB of G.Skill DDR2-1000 5-5-5-15, and ive also used with another 2x2GB ddr2-800 kit with no issues on my P5Q Deluxe. but ive taken out the ddr2-800 cause my OC was a bit limiting.

Thanks for the info, n7. Looks like I'll be looking for a P5Q-E, then... I'll have to find the wifi addon somewhere separately.

I wonder why they removed those headers on the Deluxe but left them on the E?
