There are 2 sets of internal USB pin connectors, each supporting 2 USB ports. There are no internal USB ports.

New BIOS chip arrived today, exactly one week since talking to ASUS. Can't tell what version it is just by looking at it, but definitely looking forward to seeting up the new rig.

Just a quick ? about the ASUS P5W DH board: I read some issues with the USB ports, are all the USB ports functional? How do you avoid this auto power-up issue on this board??

Thanks Vince

Only two of the eight USB ports are able to support the power-up function (for the remote control / WLan probably). The other ones are normal USB 2.0 ports, which do their job very well on my board

I just finished building my system but the POST seems to take a very long time to finish. It is set on quick and the BIOS is 1101. Anyone else notice this or know if there is a fix?

Quick question re boot options: can the P5W DH boot from an optical drive connected via USB? I'm looking to install the OS without an IDE CD- or DVD-ROM connected. The manual doesn't explicitly list the available boot options...

Thanks!

IDE & DVD Drives, Blue or Black MB connectors?

When using the Intel Raid controller, do I attach my CD & DVD drives to the Blue or Black IDE connector? I had my DVD burner (as master) connected to the Blue (I assume Primary) connector and when I connected a second CD drive (as slave) it locked up my machine and caused my array to begin rebuilding.

I think I've almost answered my own question but would like to know for sure so I can lock up the case and begin to play. The Lian-Li PC G70 cases are not made to open easily nor are they set up with the fancy rails that allow easy swapping/moving of drives.

It seems unplugging my USB devices drastically reduces the POST time.

I couldn't POST with 0701 and E6600 but I was able to access the BIOS and update from a flash drive (you need to rename the .ROM file).

just kidding bios 1101 fixed it!! yay! i had 801 to start with.

Edit: it wasn't the bios that fixed it, it was CPU internal thermal control thing on AUTO

just re-reading the Anandtech review.

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2797&p=3

my God, talk about a glowing review, it's full of superlatives. like their review of
the Asus P5N32-SLI - but they like it more than the P5N32 for C2D.

"As you will see below, overclocking was outstanding, but we suspect that higher voltage adjustments on the MCH would allow even higher overclocks. The ASUS stops at 1.65V, while the Intel BadAxe goes on to 1.725V. We would welcome ASUS raising the top voltage on the MCH. There are reports that modding the ASUS to reach 1.9V MCH allows FSB overclocks to almost 500 instead of the current limit of around 440 to 450 FSB."

"All-in-all the ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe is one of the best Conroe boards we have tested. The 975X chipset is definitely more mature than current P965 chipset motherboards. Having said that, there were still several BIOS revisions during our testing to update certain peculiarities in the current steppings of Core 2 Duo."

"The ASUS board was every bit as stable with Core 2 Duo as the Intel BadAxe, which for a long time was the only board that would operate with Conroe. The ASUS also implements the ability to adjust X6800 (2.93EE) ratios both up and down, which is a feature of this processor, but is not supported on all boards. The ASUS overclocks further than any other stock board we tested, and it recovers from bad overclocks gracefully. If the OC is close a reboot will usually allow further adjustment. If the OC is far off you need to physically turn off the power then restart to further adjust the BIOS. This is a much more friendly board for OC than the Intel BadAxe, for instance, that will not recover from any failed OC without a full power down and sometimes a CMOS clear."

"We liked the board enough that it became our new standard board for our DDR2 memory testing platform."

"the stock E6700 reached a 50% overclock at 4.0 GHz. Our new OC test bed uses an excellent air cooler in the Tuniq Tower, and you are likely to experience lower overclocks with stock cooling."

"The board we would choose for our own Conroe system is the ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe. Performance is rock solid and the feature set is superb. It is the best overclocker of the eight boards here and it is based on the 975X chipset, which allows the X6800 to be set to both higher and lower multipliers. You cannot set higher multipliers on the P965 and 965 overclocking is poorer on every board we tested than 975X overclocking."

guess i'll wait a few more months for BIOS Revs. to get sorted out & prices to fall.

my only wish for this board - that it had more SATA connectors.

Mine runs under 35C with every software reading. What video card are you running? Is your mobo upside-down?

I read the review for this motherboard and am impressed with its capabilitiies. However, I prefer Nvidia graphics chips over ATI and know that this one supports Crossfire. Does anyone know if there are drivers or patches for it to run SLI? If not, and one was to use an Nvidia card, what could the second slot be used for for compatability?

For those with temperature problems on the P52 Deluxe, make sure you have removed the thin plastic coating on the north and south bridge heatsinks. The north bridge is actualy covered on three sides with plastic. I made the mistake of not removing them first and as a result had PC Probe MB temps of 47-48. After removing the temps went down to 42-43. This also improved my overclocking slightly.

If anyone is having temp problems with the P5W DH MB, I noticed that the north and south bridge come with a copper or plastic top. I removed these tops before installing my P5W DH. It increases air flow and may decrease your overall temperature.

My mobo is running @ 45C, procesor @ 26C in a 76F room (not overclocked...yet). I would like to remove the northbridge cover but am afraid that could involve some warranty issues down the line.

Does anyone know if you can opt to use the bottom PCIx16 slot for a single video card? Using the top slot seems to block airflow to the northbridge, especially with the cover and the up-down fin orientation.

Great board so far and the onboard sound seems to be pretty good too.

This isnt a SLI mobo. You'd have to wait for the new SLI mobos to come out to run dual nVidia cards.

@JAH:
My P5W-DH works flawlessly with my Antec NeoHE 550.

@Dirt Guy:
To answer your question, read the manual. It says to plug IDE drives into the primary IDE connector (the blue one on the right-hand side of the board) before the secondary (the black one at the bottom).

I also seem to be having notably higher motherboard temperatures. The CPU idles at 31 Celsius, while the motherboard idles at 46 Celsius.
