No idea. The one time I tried Speedfan, years ago, my system blue-screened. When I tried to reboot I got another BSoD. I end-up having to format. I have not used Speedfan since. Heh.

I have the Fan Mate controller stuck to the inside of my case, as well. Not really a hassle if your case door can be easily removed.

Has anybody been able to set up a RAID0 on the EZ Backup Raid controller? I can only set it to RAID1 or BIG... even with the jumpers correctly set, the EZ Backup Manager only allows BIG setup.

re: mobo temp
An idle temp of ~50 is normal for this board.

-phil

Really? Mine is running at ~34 and I've seen it below 30. CPU is running at @ ~40 w/Stock fan and AS5. All I did was remove the stupid heatsink covers and try to maximize airflow/ambient temp within the case.

I'm using RAID 0 successfully. Did you make the bios change under the Advanced menu? Choose Advanced then DH Feature then set EZ Backup RAID Mode Change to "enabled." I'm not positive I'm addressing your situation, but maybe it's something to check.

After saving your bios change, you should come back as RAID 0 provided your jumpers are set correctly.

Just some notes on my build for those that want to compare...

When I first booted the boot time was slow. Rebooted a second time to double check the time and it was still slow. Like a good 3 minutes. We disabled Q-fan as reccomended by many on the various forums and on the 3rd boot up it was much better. My buddy and I attributed the better boot time to disabling the Qfan so it does work. I'm using the Zalman 9500AT hsf and we used the 'grain of rice size' application method. After three or four days (cant remember which day exactlty) of running the system at stock the temps dropped 2C on idle and load so a burn in is required. During that time I ran the pc 24/7. After like the 5th day I started turning it off at night and then on in the morning to give it a bit of different burn in testing. did that for a few days as well. As far as desktops go all mine run 24/7. Laptop is the only one I turn off after use. Overall the temps dropped 2C after all that burn in time at stock since first day startup. Some folks have reported larger temp drops and some have had less or none at all. The AS5 directions says 200 hours (8.3 days @ 24/7) cure/burn time so give it at least that.

I got a question for Phil about Everest. Or anyone else that has used both. We know CoreTemp reads higher than ASUS Probe and SpeedFan but how's Everest in relation to CoreTemp temperatures? Same? Higher? Lower? I'm curious where it falls in comparison. I might want to buy it but would like to get a comparitive idea first. I know you cant be exact but in general terms?

Thanks,
~Skott~

I'm not Phil. But I'm using Everest based on his recommendation. It reports "core temps" and "CPU temp". In my experience the "core temps" it reports are very close (within 1 degree) to those reported by the CoreTemp app.

Yes, i've done the BIOS change... you need to for any RAID. Originally i had it set to RAID1, but now i need it at RAID0, but all i get is BIG. And the jumpers are correct... in fact, i tried both the BIG and RAID0 jumper settings, and they both default to BIG.

I'll try clearing the bios tonight to see if that helps.

Hmm, that is pretty good indeed. Is that core temp or CPU temp? What is it being reported by? What is your ambient temp?

PCProbe reports those temps. CoreTemp reports ~59 each. 2 ambient sensors report 30 and 26. They are just laying in the case.

re: AS5 burn-in
2C drop is roughly what I get, for all the effort. I think that's about right.

re: Everest
Everest reads the same digital thermal sensors and, in my experience, tends to give essentially identical results as CoreTemp. It's a fantastic "all in one" app.

re: BIOS/Speedfan/Probe 2 CPU temp
I've since learned that the conroe CPUs have a thermal diode on the die, in addition to the two digital thermal sensors. Apparently, this is the source of the BIOS/Speedfan/Probe 2 CPU temp readings.

See Sig below:
I have an non overclocked ASUS P5W DH that will occasionally reboot (like pushing the reset button) own it's own. Temps are fine 37C/43C
So far I've done an overnight mem test with zero errors, changed power supplies, re-cased the motherboard and components, changed the video card and it still restarts. This happens once every 1-2 days and otherwise runs perfectly. I thought I'd seek advice here before rma'íng the mobo.
Can anyone of you P5W DH experts offer suggestions?
Thanks

What does it say in the event viewer? You can find the event viewer by going into the control panel and opening Administrative Tools. Look in the System area fro any events that occured at about the time the machine rebooted.

The only error that I am getting in the event viewer is "ipnathlp", I think it is a network file/error but am not sure if this will cause spontaneous reboots.

I wouldn't be so quick to fault the mobo. This sounds more like a power issue. Any chance you can swap in a different PSU?

You may also want to try testing with a fresh windows install, with only the latest devices drivers for all your components intalled.

Well I am having problems with my microphone on this board believe it or not. Everything is up and running fine but I plug my mic in and it is not picking my voice up. I messed around with a pile of settings but still no sound. I thought it might be the mic so I used my second mic. Still nothing. At this point I have spent hours on hold with Asus trying get some tech support but it's a no go. Anyone heard of any problems with mics or am I the only one?

You're not the only one I have seen having mic trouble with the onboard audio. I'm not using the onboard, myself, so I can't be of any service, except to suggest that you buy a dedicated soundcard. Far fewer headaches.

Thanks for your help Phil,
I've swapped good quality PSU's, OCZ GSX 700/OCZ powerstream 520 SLI and the problem occurs with both. I did another dual channel mem test all night last night and had zero errors after 12 passes. THe only thing I can think of that is different is changing Ram latency with corsair's help. THe only reason that I'm pushing th mobo issue is that I just have a few more days before reaching the magic number of 30 days when I fall into the hands of ASUS tech support and can no longer return the mobo to the reseller. It is suprising how little help ASUS had been able to provide. THeir answer: "RMA""the mobo with no troubleshooting.

Try my second idea. These restarts could also be a driver issue with one of your components. Are you using the onboard audio? If so, disable it and see if the restarts still occur.

No, thats the first I've heard of that particular problem, IfReborn. Did you try redownloading and installing the free programs? Also is it a hard freeze where everything lucks up tight forcing you to reboot or does it eventually unfreeze on its own at some point? Also what BIOS version are you using on your mobo?
