Sorry for the multi-posts. But I would like some help with installing the last two devices IDE ATA/100 - 160 MB HD (Maxtor) and Iomega Zip-250MB drive in this sytem (ASUS P5W DH Deluxe).

I am using the additional IDE port at the far end of the motherboard, powered by the JMicron chip (black connector) to install the two devices (Master/Slave)

Zip-250MB installation - During Boot up, the system recognise the Zip drive in "GREEN TEXT" The Bios shows the zip drive in the boot menu, however during boot into WinXP PRO-SP2, I get JMicorn Error (wants to report to Microsoft server), but the zip drive is now useable and can be used in windows to copy and paste files from zip to HD.

I need to know how to configure the JMicron Controller settings to get rid of the Jmicron error message? and why the heck "green text"?

Maxtor HD - 160MB - Same issue, but Aqua color text

I have tried installing the drive one at a time, but still the same error.

Any help would be appreciated, to get these devices working without error messages.

Thanks
Simon

BIOS 1305: update JMicron OptionRom to V1.06.56a.

If you haven't already done so, try flashing to 1305. Other than that, I have nothing to suggest. I haven't tried using the JMicron controller for anything, as of yet.

Okay guys, I have some questions that I'm sure have been asked here before, but since Anandtech doesn't have an in-thread search feature, will be asked now and forever more.

I have a P5W DH Deluxe and E6600 headed my way. I also have a 7900GTX.

Q #1: is this board "unofficially" supporting SLi, or is there no way to do that?

Q #2: If I am not planning on overclocking, what type of DDR2 should I purchase? Would 2 x 1GB sticks of Value RAM work sufficiently, or would there be a major hit in performance when talking about DDR800 and DDR1066?

That's it for now, but I am sure there is more to come.

1) There's no ifficial or unofficial support for SLI, but I think there exists a hacked driver.

2) This board officially supports DDR2-533/DDR2-667/DDR2-800. Faster memory should work, but I've seen people have some problems. If you're not planning to o/c, all you need is a good kit of DDR2-533 - PC2-4200. I would strongly recommend you do at least modestly overclock, since you're buying such overclock-friendly gear. In that case, go with a good kit of DDR2-667 or DDR2-800 - PC2-5300 or PC2-6400, respectively.

Good value RAM, as opposed to generic, will be fine, but may have higher latencies.

I was thinking about OCZ Gold series DDR2-800 (PC2 6400). That should give me a little headroom, correct?

When I meant value, I meant ... not OCZ Platinum, etc.

I certainly wouldn't classify the OCZ XTC Gold PC2-6400 as "value" memory. That's an excellent kit, and will more than meet your needs.

that being said, configure your BIOS as follows:

- memory speed: DDR2-800
- memory voltage: 2.1v
- memory timings: 4-4-4-12 (the first 4 values in the BIOS - leave the other memory settings as is)

If you wanted to run your mem at 800 without a divider, it would require overclocking the FSB from 266 to 400 (3.6GHz). If you don't know what you're doing, you should not attempt such an overclock. You need to start slow and do your homework.

There was no "2.1" in the BIOS so I set it to 2.10 - is that the same thing?

Today I was playing a game and I minimized to my desktop for a moment then when I want back into the game I noticed a screen of sheer artifacts and whacky colors. That gets me mad because all my parts are brand new and I'm not sure what caused that and if it means I should RMA something or not.

Plus later I was using a third party MSN client and I noticed all the screens related to that became pure blank white as would typically be indicative of a RAM problem. It didn't fix until I rebooted.

Actually upon further testing I noticed that my MSN client goes totally blank white every single time I start up that game and even if I downgrade my RAM voltage to 2.0 or if I leave it at 2.10.

Does this sound like a defective part or did I volt my RAM too much?

I have an older version of xp home without sp1. I have windows loaded. What would be the order of installation next, update windows, install chipset drivers? I think this is where my usb problem lies. Before reinstall, usb ports would work right up the windows loading then go off so I do not think it is a hardware issue. Please any help.

Your USB problem is all but ceratinly due to not having SP2. Install the latest chipset drivers from the Intel site, and then get SP2 and all the other updates.

Anyone else seeing PCIe clock at 80mhz, with ClockGen v1.0.4.7; ICS 954123 selected?
Have been seeing same result with all BIOS'es, including most recent. Probably a bug, but just wanted to check with ya'll......
(manually set PCIe: 100; PCI: 33.33)

- P5W DH Rev 1; BIOS: 1407
- E6700 @ 3.0ghz stable (FSB:300)
- PCIe: 100; PCI: 33.33
- OCZ OCZ2G8002GK (PC-800; 3:4; vDIMM=2.10vdc; 5-6-6-18; 6190/6179)
- Temps: 84F/98F Idle; 113F/105F loaded (Amb: 71F)

There are three ICS choices for the 975X chipset, and none of them accurately read the PCI-E or PCI clocks. I don't know if this is a flaw with Clockgen, or the result of Clockgen not having been updated to fully support the P5WDH.

yea i have no idea what that post said but thank you anyways. another thing is bios 1405 and 1407 wont let me overclock the slightest bit. not even 333X9 which runs perfectly on bios 1403. so i don't know what the deal is, but i'll wait for the official bios 1405 from asus(man they're slow).

Mine's L624A573 btw. Guess yours can overclock a bit better than mine? I might sell this one for an E6600 sometime around Christmas. By then the procs will probably overclock like mad right? Although i lapped mine already, you think someone on ebay will want a lapped E6700 at say $100+ off the retail price??

I've done 333X9 with every BIOS, to date.

Here is my BIOS configuration:

C1E: Disabled
Speedstep: Disabled
FSB: 333
DRAM: DDR2-666 or (DDR2-833 w/ 2.15 vdimm)
VCORE: 1.35v
VDIMM: 2.1
SPD: Disabled
TIMINGS: 4-4-5-15 (P5WDH BIOS transposes the two middle values)
HYPERPATH 3: Disabled (this is not optional - must be disabled)

Additionally, I have QFAN disabled - never liked it. It never throttles-up the fan until the CPU approaches imminent death.

All other voltages set to AUTO.

It certainly sounds like an issue with the videocard. Whether it's a hardware defect, a driver issue, or a video bios issue, I have no idea. Have you tried ATI tech support?

Don't know, but I went the other way, upgraded from E6600 to E6700.
- to get better FSB/MEM ratios
- lapped it, eh? - give it a go on eBay
- or I'll trade ya straight, for my E6600 retail, FPO L624A783 and $100 USD, for your "lapped" E6700.... (teehee)

-Phil, thanks for the settings but i can do 333x9 at auto vcore(1.340) and 833 at auto vdimm on bios 1403 perfectly. It's just for some reason higher bios doesn't allow me to do much. Other people on XS also reported the same thing that happened to me. I just want to try the newer bios to see if its more stable or something. But thanks anyways mate. You're a great help to this tread, keep up the good work.

-Bichi, LOL trade for your e6600 and $100 huh? Well i'll think about it (not!) The reason I want a new proc is because I want to be able to overclock better. I saw a week 28 e6600 do 3.6GHz on 1.3v!! Although it was from "Coolaler," an overclock god, it shows that the newer chips overclock like mad with little to no volt change. But I'll give it a try on ebay in a couple of months.

-aqaxz, lapped means that the IHS on the proc is sanded down 'til it is near mirror-like so that you will get better temperatures from your HSF. Phil and I both have lapped our own processors and noticed drops in temp. Here's a link: http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?t=4735
Mine is much more mirror-like than that, I can see myself clearly when holding it out in front of me.
