I have a question about the ez backup used for raid. How hard is it to use? I see there are five in the manual on their site. Is that correct. If so, and I use the ez backup ports will the other three work for sata dvd drives? Can anyone explain a little bit about this board and the sata ports? Thanks. Anyone.

You should be fine with BIOS 1601. Here's a good thread to look for the newest BIOS (look on page 1), but you will see at the end that there are many people complaining about the latest BIOS (1801 onwards). Unless you have a new CPU (quad-core, etc., don't bother).

BIOS 1707 is the latest version that hasn't caused any fuss among the enthusiast community.

Those 5 SATA ports are managed by the ICH7R southbridge chipset. If you connect two drives to the orange EZRaid ports, you will automatically have a RAID 1 array. You can build a RAID 0 on these ports, as well, but that requires some configuration. SATA1 (red), SATA3, and SATA4 are regular SATA ports, and can be used for any SATA drive - HDD or optical.

I am looking at doing a raid 1 so all I need to do is hook them up and that is it? No doing of anything else? Nothing, nadda, zip, zero stuff. I will be using vista ultimate, any problems there?

Then have you already used the 2-port slot unit included in the box? I removed the slot cover and installed mine internally as a mini-hub for my 3-1/2 card reader and 5-1/4 hub.

There are supposed to be 8 individual USB ports based on the BIOS options, but I never found them all...

Could someone post a link to somewhere that has a list of all the most current updates for this board? I wasn't sure if I should update the chipset drivers or whatever without a clean install of windows (something I don't want to do). Last I updated was early January and I don't want to miss out. I'm running on the 1801 Bios as well, is the newer one any better?

The link that has been posted with "vip" at the begining of the URL seems to be very up to date (again thanks to phile who originally posted if I remember correctly. If not, thanks to whoever did it).

Also, even if I plug a USB hub into the bottom the ports, the computer still restarts after powering down.

This is defintely not a life or death issue, but just a larger than average annoyance. I just wish there was a way to turn this off.

Why not use a port NOT rigged to restart? The hub should work there too, right?

And my computer used to restart on me after shutdown, and I never had anything plugged into the special ports. It just decided to stop doing that one day, so since there was no reason for it to stop I spend a few moments waiting at each shutdown to see if history will repeat itself. So far, so good...

That's why I asked, I wouldn't expect there to be a problem with it. Would an image of the OS partition be enough of a backup before upgrading it?

Thanks for answering, could anyone else confirm that updating the chipset shouldn't be a problem? (Not that it matters, still on XP)

I use Acronis True Image 10 to image my partitions. I always update the image after any install (app or driver), once I have determined that everything is working properly, and stable. That way, should any future problems arise, I can just restore my last good image. This is a much better approach than relying on the flaky System Restore feature.

Hi everyone, I recently purchased an Asus p5w dh, however after assembling that along with my Asus N7800GTX, 2 x OCZ 8000 Sli Ram modules, and a Conroe E6400 CPU I get the green light on the mobo and that's it, when I hit the power button on my case, nothing happens. I tried disconnecting each component individually, still won't power up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you connect both the 20+4-pin ATX (to the right of the memory slots) AND 4-pin 12v (above the CPU socket) power supply connectors?

If it's not the above, your mobo could be shorted in the case. Try powering-up the mobo outside of the case, with just the CPU/MEM/VID installed.

Ok, I'm off on another computer. I will be using the P5W DH Deluxe for this one. I want the perfect memory for this board. I have looked and looked in this forum but can't really tell for sure. What do you believe is the best memory for this board. It will be oc but not much. I will be using C2D 6600. Can you give me some suggestions for this one. I was really looking hard at Buffalo Firestyx but they keep going out of stock before I can get them. Anyone.

What you want is a good kit of PC2-6400 (CL4), of which there are plenty. The best kit for the P5WDH? Hard to say. However, if you're only planning a modest overclock, I suspect any of the following kits will be just fine.

Yes, I've had it 3 times, however with other motherboards.
Was forced to do a clean installs.

Intel recommends:
If you need to upgrade to the latest version, then you will need to install the utility using the have-disk installation method. The setup.exe installation method cannot be used because it will prevent you from upgrading if the utility has already been installed

Thanks for your info. So all these have been proven to work with this board? Great! I will look carefully and try to chose one. I was looking at buffalo firestyx but the are always sold out. I was on the wait list and they came in but when I went to get them they were already sold out in a couple of hours.
