OK, the Cooler Master Stacker 810 is about ready for the reinstall, even if I'm not. However, even at stock the temps are nearly 10C higher than before, so I have to do it.

Which SATA jack other than SATA_RAID1 is BEST for a non-boot data drive? I'm going to move my eSATA 500GB drive inside the case because there's a 120MM fan on the drive cage that'll be blowing over it all the time. My second eSATA adapter is plugged into SATA_RAID1 and I don't WANT to screw with that setup because I plan on two 1TB (to start) eSATA drives once they become reasonable.

If I have to set jumpers to make one of the RAID jacks like SATA4 work for one drive, which jumper(s) would be correct?

Thanks...

Tried setting it to 1.3, 1.325, 1.35, and 1.4
It dropped about .5 each time except on 1.4 which it stayed at 1.4.
However I still get the same issue if trying to overclock where the post freezes before the memory is detected.

I say it's the memory. I suppose you have this: F2-6400CL4D-2GBHK (1GB x 2)

2-2.1V is pushing it at 800MHz let alone anything higher.

Either lower your memory speed and then overclock the FSB, or set your memory to 2.3-2.4V.

I have windows xp pro installed on my computer with a p5w dh deluxe and every time I go to shut down my computer, instead of going through the shut down process, it restarts immediately. I tried reading through the ASUS forums on the mobo but haven't had any luck finding someone else who has had the same issues. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Do you have anything plugged into the #3/4 usb slots (bottom ones on the back of the mobo)? And here is another forum that might help.

----------------------------------------------------

These are the memory sticks I have.

Tried booting with some ddr2 3200 memory I found, doubt it can oc at all but I still get the same problem i've been having.

I believe I have the usb hub of my 2005 fpw monitor plugged into either usb 3 or 4. I'll try unplugging it when I get home.

Did you check if there is a really hot area on your motherboard? For example is the north bridge getting hot even though it shouldn't be. Maybe the heatsink isn't really contacting it properly.

So you can't increases FSB even though you instead the MCH voltage, I say the above needs checking.

Thanks for sticking with me, but nothing on the motherboard is getting hot. I'm thinking that its a memory/memory voltage problem as you first suggested. I'll get my hands on some other memory sometime and just stick with stock for now.

I would set the VDIMM to 2.4V and not worry about it, nothing will get damaged. At least it will tell us whether your memory is flaking out or not. Intel allows a VDIMM of up to 2.8V on their Bax Axe 2 motherboard so not to worry by setting 2.4V.

Still same old problem with memory at 2.4.

Update:
Friend had a build with same mobo, different ram, and an e6600. Overclocked his to 3.0ghz without even trying, stuck his ram in my board and same old error. His wouldn't boot with the 450w generic power supply that came in his case, his 8800gts was sucking too many amps. My power supply allowed him to boot fine, but I guess my quad is just going to have to run at stock and be happy with its low wattage.

Does anybody know why my PC wouldn't go into standby mode? It will go in standby for 1-2 seconds then the system automatically resumes by itself back to the login screen.

Here are my components:
Geforce 7950GT
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS
a PCI USB 4-port card

USB Devices include Logitech G5 USB Mouse, Logitech USB camera, Xbox HD-DVD drive, etc. Thanks.

Is it possible that it won't go into standby mode because you've got something plugged into one of the wake on USB ports? That can cause random startups if something like a scanner is plugged into the port when the computer is off. Could be a similar issue here.

Does anyone know if the P5W DH can deal with 1333Mhz CPUs?

I can't find anything via Google that says it can, but asking will at least bump this thread...

I see no reason why the board would not be perfectly compatible with 1333 FSB CPUs. Overclocking a E6x00 to FSB 333 (1333) is essentially the exact same thing as a E6x50 running at FSB 333 stock.

Hello and help.

I am sure this issue has come up before. I have a new P5W DH Deluxe with Intel E6600, 2 Seagate SATA2 drives, and a WD IDE drive (Windows XP home installed).

If only SATA drives and DVD Writer are connected. SATA drives to SATA 1 and SATA 3, DVD writer to ICH7 (blue) ATA connector, I can load and run Windows Vista Home Premium fine. If I add IDE drive (Window XP installed) to system via blue connector, system will not boot from SATA drive even though it is shown as first option in Boot sequence, and I remove IDE drive from sequence. System hangs at BSOD.

Is there a workaround to this, please point me in right direction if there is already a message with directions.

Thanks.

Hey, I've checked teh ASUS site for the quad core processors that the P5 supports, and the links ASUS provides just don't seem to provide the info...

Does anyone know just what specific quad core CPU's this board, with 2004 bios, will support?

So, now that it's summer time here on the east coast and with things heating up i decided to grab another case fan and Northbridge cooler to keep the temps from raising in the warm weather...

First off i went with the easy install and threw in the case fan and attached it to Chassis 1 pins. Powered up, and nothing. Moved it to Chassis 2 and still nothing. hrmn. Plugged it into CPU and guess what, nothing. So the thought was that the fan is defective but i decided to prove it by unplugging one of the Power fans ... guess what this time, it worked! The deal was the same with the NB cooler so it's not defective products that i bought.

Trying to resolve the issue i tried default BIOS settings, various Q-Fan on/off and all sorts of combinations. The bottom line though is that with default settings everything should work, right? One thing i've noticed in the BIOS fans settings is a N/A reading for all but the PWR fans.

As a side note - PC Probe is not detecting any sensors whatsoever and i can't see or modify the position of the monitoring panels, it's stays stuck on "right" no matter where i change it. WHen i hit config, all i see is a blank white box .Could this somehow be related? CPU-Z, SpeedFan and Core Temp all seem to be working fine.

Is there something blatant that i'm missing or could it be a corrupt BIOS issue(2004)? I've looked here and elsewhere but can't find anything similar. Any ideas?

That must be why the term 'unofficially' came up in my Google searches: with no switch, you'd have to overclock. Other current boards that say they will handle 1333Mhz must have some sort of official switch.

Thanks...

In my continued efforts since my previous post to figure out why only my Power fan connectors work while Chassis and CPU do not, i've also noticed that PC Probe does not seem to work either - no monitor panels and no sensor readings. I've taken a screen shot of the error i get when i first try to open the program (and it doesn't appear subsequent times after first launch).

Screenshot of the error is here. To sum it up for the click lazy, it notifies of an access violation in the aaCenter.exe module.

I did a search for this error but turned up only one page in German. I translated the page but there was nothing relevant. So again, does anyone have any idea what this error may mean and does it seem related to my fan connectors?

I have a sata hdd with vista installed on it, and ive got an ide hdd that i want to install xp on(you really hate vista after a while) but the mb doesnt seem to know the ide drive is there so i cant install xp on it. any idea how i can get it to recognise the ide drive?

i currently have 2 optical drives installed on the primary ide so i am trying to use the ide drive on the secondary ide connected.

Research into the apparent failure of my Arctic Freezer 7 Pro has led to the purchase of a Thermaltake V1 to replace it, and then tracking down how to get the 7 Pro repaired for backup use. It appears that the vendors of the heatsink are now responsible for warranty service, so I'm not sure it'll GET repaired. I may have to find how one gets one of those pin-things that pushes into the hole in the motherboard in case one of those broke, but that's still a guess as to the issue.

Buying the new Cooler Master case turns out to be the only way the V1 will fit: my old case doesn't have enough room for the fan-shaped V1 to go, since the power supply shelf is in the way. Lots of room will be there Saturday for the changeover into the CM case.

Still no delivery from Amazon on the new PSU. Can't wait any longer since 1.87Ghz is NOT as good as 2.87Ghz was and cooling was the only consistent factor in system reboots...

anyone know how to prevent the 320kb unknown config disk from appearing and making windows want to initialize it? i have 2 hd in the first 2 red sata connectors and am using AHCI mode.

OSX periodically wants to initialize it but can't.

System: E6600 2 gb ram - Gigabyte 7600 GT fanless video card, WD 150 gb raptor, Lian Li aluminum case w/sound dampening material.

I cannot figure out what is up w/my temperature probe. Last week my power supply (an antec semi-fanless model) blew out, perhaps due to a power surge during a reboot - (a bulb on my lamp was fried at the same time). I had the PS replaced with the TriPower Antec 650W PS. I monitor the temperature of my components with PC Probe II (latest version) and Everest Ultimate. I am running Vista. There is an admitted problem w/the airflow in my Lian Li case which I have tried to compensate for.

The problem is instead of a CPU fan, I have a one of those giant heatsinks that is connected by a rubber duct to the 120 mm back case fan which pulls the hot CPU air out of the case. This solution seemed very novel at the time and keep the CPU running at low temperatures for the most part. But that commandered case fan is no longer fulfilling its role in exhausting other hot air from the case.

To aggravate matters, I have one of those Gigabyte silent pipe GPUs and myLian Li case has only one other exhaust fan which is far removed from the mb so the hot air is not exhausted from the case. The result has been very high mb temperatures. Until last week, I just left the case open and had a small 6" table fan blowing air directly into the chassis. This kept temperatures at a reasonable level. After the PC wouldn't turn on, I took it to a repair tech who wired everything back together and put in the new PS. He connected my faux CPU fan and the other case fan to the power leads on the new Antec PS and told me everything would work fine.

With the case closed, the temps skyrocketed. I noticed the mouse cursor bouncing around which I had seen in the past during overheating. When I turned the temp monitors back on, the numbers were alarming. It was a very hot day here as well. The MB temp was 75C, the CPU was 45, the cores were higher, the hard drive was 48 C. As soon as I took the cover off the case and turned my small desk fan on the mb, the temps dropped precipitiously.

I then tried putting the case back together and aiming the fan thru the holes in the 5.25 drive bays. Again, the numbers were OK, very low in fact. However, when I left the fan on at the higher speed, he motherboard numbers went down to 1C. I figured this could not be good. On the other hand, when I left the fan off, the mb numbers climbed within about 10 minutes to over 100C. This just didn't seem right to me and it even occured w/the case open and the room cool. I started doubting the numbers.

The system is stablilized and I am looking next week to mount a special bay fan enclosure that pulls air into the case, but I noticed today that the CPU (not the cores) and MB temp stuck at 24 and 38C respectively. They did not change for hours. When I rebooted (soft reset), the bios showed 24 and 38 even after I had turned off the small fan blowing air into the front of the case.

I then shut down the PC completely. On reboot, the mb temp was 50C, what I would have predicted w/the fan off.

Now I question the reliability of the all the sensors on my system. I think they are generally correct. However, I would be interested in comments about what might be happening here. As I write this message, the temp of the CPU is shown as 66C while core 1 is 32 and core 2 is 31. Is this possible? And all I have been doing is typing.

After I rebooted, the bios showed the CPU temp as 26C even after it had been shown as 70C about 60 seconds before in PCProbe and Everest. Is it possible for the temp to drop that quickly? I left the PC on in the bios for about 30 minutes. The CPU temp stayed at 29-30C the entire time. To me anyway, this would indicate there is nothing wrong with the way the CPU is mounted, ie. grease was not spread properly etc.

Again I am at a loss here and could use some insight.

Update on case and cooler swap.

The Thermaltake V1 isn't any easier to detach once attached, since the V-shape hinders access to the back-and-right post up against the case. It also doesn't help to leave the plastic cover on the heatsink then have to remove everything to get it out, but it does do an excellent job of spreading the Arctic Silver 5. If I do this more often, I'd seriously consider trying a few installs where the plastic is used to spread an abundance of AS5 then peel the plastic and just put the heatsink back on, but this time I dabbed a little bit back on to cover what stuck to the plastic.

So with disaster averted, I see temps lower than the 'bad' Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, which may end up having been too dirty but the dirt was hidden behind the fan I didn't remove to check. If I NEED that cooler again, at least I know it was good for the job.

Overclocked to 2.87Ghz again, temps range from 46-47 to start up to 54-55 during Orthos stress so I'm OK with them. As the AS5 sets, it should get better. Case is nice and airy, and while the new position of the PSU at the bottom of the case makes attaching wires difficult unless all the cards are pulled, the room at the top for another liquid-based cooler later on seems wonderful...
