Interesting. So, with just the "good" stick installed, you cannot trigger a BSoD when pushing the system?

Try running the bad stick through memtest test #5. Let it repeat several times. IIRC, test #5 is a key test that really stresses the mem.

Yeah with the bad stick in, BSOD in <10 mins when running dual Prime95s. Twice in two different DIMM slots. Good stick in, no BSOD yet with Prime95x2 and F@H running as well, for over an hour.

Well, it seems abundantly clear that you have found your problem.

lol it seemed to go on forever from my end. Now I am trying to get either Newegg or OCZ to cross ship me some RAM, not having much luck. I wouldnt mind just sending in the one bad stick, I'd still have a single channel of 1g to work with. But they want them both. And since I have been AMD for the past 4 years or so, I have no spare DDR2 lying around so RMAing this memory means I am out of commision for however long it takes them to process the RMA and return the new RAM.

Yay for redundancy on my part. Will the P5W DH Deluxe run 1ghz ram? If so, will this provide better overclocking or negligable differences?

OCZ will take care of you. I'm almost certain that you will be able to arrange for them to cross-ship you a new kit.

Sign-up at their support forum:
http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=45

Then, send en email to RyderOCZ:
eryder AT ocztechnology DOT com

I happen to have a copy of the RMA form that you will sent. Here it is:

Description of your OCZ product -
(quantity, size and OCZ part number):

OCZ Power Supply serial number if defective -
(check silver label on unit):

When and where this OCZ product was purchased:

Description of your problem -
(indicate memory frequency, voltage, timings and test results if applicable):

Motherboard used - (model and revision):

Power Supply wattage, brand and model:

Your Name:

Email Address:

Telephone number:

Shipping address for return or replacement product:

Can anybody suggest the best way to hook up 7 drives?

I have 1 x DVD reader, 1 x DVD writer, 1 x CD writer, 1 x old 40GB IDE, 1 x old 60GB IDE, and 2 x 160GB SATA.

I know I could get rid of some of them, but I'd like to have them all hooked up if possible.

I was thinking of something like the 3 CD/DVD drives + 40GB IDE on the IDE connections, and then plug an IDE to SATA converter into the 60GB to connect it to SATA. Then I want to put the 2 x 160GB into a RAID 0 as my primary drive.

What's the best RAID to use on the mobo? Asus EZ, Intel or JMicron? And which SATA port should I use for the standalone 60GB?

Thanks!!

PS. Sorry, this is a double-post cos I originally posted as a new topic instead of in this topic... anybody know how to delete the original?

The JMicron IDE channel (black port) does not support ATAPI drives, so I think you're going to have to drop one of your opticals. Honestly, why do you need a CD writer when your DVD writer will write CDs?

The CD writer is much faster than the DVD writer for writing CDs. I'll probably just drop the spare DVD ROM. Thanks for the info.

Any advice on which of the 3 RAID options is the best?

I haven't tried RAID on this board, yet, but it would appear that EZ Raid is the easiest to setup. Whether it's the best, I have no idea.

I'm having what seems to be overheating issues with my setup.

E6400 (running at the speed its supposed to be, no adjustments needed)
2 x 512mb of Corsair XMS PC2-6400 (I adjusted the voltage to what it's supposed to be, 2.1V)
Asus P5WDH
ATI X850XT
550W Antec Truepower 2.0

I first realized there was a problem when I tried to benchmark this new system with 3dMark06 (demo) and not even 30 seconds into the first test, the system speaker beeped once.. then again about 15 seconds later, then again, and finally the test stopped, the screen went back to the menu, and the system shut it self down as if I had told it to.

My idle temps with the case open in a 70 F room are
35 C for CPU
45 C for MB
and the CPU fan is spinning (stock fan/heatsink) at 1300rpm idle, 1550-1600 when under the stress tests

according to PC Probe and Everest.
when I run the system stability test with Everest selecting on stress CPU & FPU, the temp for the CPU hovers around 50-51 C peaking at 52-53, and the mboard gets up to 51-52 C.

I haven't updated the bios yet, as i've never done that before so i'm not quite sure how to. But I doubt that'll fix this heating issue.

EDIT:
I ran Everest's System Stability Test again, this time for about twice as long as the previous time. The cpu temp peaked at 62 C, MB stayed right at 50 C the whole time. So from the look of it, the system is completely stable and able to run fine until I try and run full screen graphics, such as 3dMark06 or GTA:San Andreas, which is when the system beeps several times before shutting down or locking up. I doubt it's a power issue because I have a 550 Watt PSU.

What could it be then?

What is the high end of temps for Conroe and this board? 62C seems a tad high to me. I dont know about the mobo temp, which sensor does it get a reading from?

Anyone use Speed Fan? My temp3 setting on that board registers at 126C! lol wtf

BTW phil I contacted newegg again before seeing your last post. I ended up buying new RAM and they said they would just give me 100% back when they get my RMA. So its kind of like a cross ship, good enough for me. Also, FWIW, I opened a support ticket with OCZ on Monday and still havent heard from them. I did have a forum mod respond to my thread there a few times.

Currently, I am running the E6600 at stock 2.4Ghz with a Raid 0 container using 3 WD Raid Edition 250 GB drives on the Intel ICH7R chipset. The driver for the chipset is the current version right off intel site and was installed during the Windows XP Pro setup process. BIOS is 1100. It is stable currently.

My issue with hard drive corruption occurs during any kind of overclock (AI or manual). Everything works dandy at the beginning but after a matter of several minutes to hours, the Windows installation will show signs of serious data corruption. This will occur on a single/double/triple drive setup with any of the raid types (0,1,5). Yes, I tried them all. Even installing the OS under stock 2.4Ghz and doing the OC once everything is in place does not help.

I did not bother with the other raid chipset on the board, so I have no idea how that will operate under the same conditions.

Full Specs:

P5W DH Deluxe
E6600 Core 2 Duo
Adata 533 DDR2 2GB Kit
3 Raid Edition WD 250GB hard drives (new)
OCZ 700W PS
Nivdia GeForce 7900GT

I post this as a warning to those who may be attempting the same. Be careful.

Hey ......

Did anyone get this mobo to overclock while using raid 0 or 5 ?

Any ideas why were having problems ??

Regards,
Jose

I'm running RAID 0 with two 320GB, 16MB, SATA II, Western Digital drives. Works just peachy for me. I'm currently running a E6600@3.0Ghz with 4,4,4,12 RAM timings. I do have the HyperPath 3 option disabled.

Despite the debate over the reliability of CoreTemp, those are the temps I trust the most. What are your temps as read by CoreTemp?

according to Core Temp Beta 0.9.0.91

Core #1 : 48 C
Core #2 : 50 C

at basically idle, with the case open.

under full load (using Everest System Stability Test)
Core Temp readings are peaking at

Core #1 : 71 C
Core #2 : 71 C

(after only 1 minute of stress testing)

While those temps are not low, they're not critically high, either. I'm still of the opinion that your problems are not heat related, unless it is your videocard that's overheating. Download and install ATITOOL 0.24. You can read your videocard's temp with that. Let me know what your idle and load temps are for the vidcard.

Also, these problems *could* be du to a bad power supply.

according to ATITOOL 0.24

idle temp for the GPU is 69 C

temp under load for the GPU: 128
and thats with the Core running at 450mhz rather then 540mhz
and with the memory running at 450mhz rather then 590mhz

according to the reviews on newegg for this card, it runs just fine on those default settings, so I must assume that the antec PSU I have isn't working right, what are your thoughts everyone? phil?

one note, the PSU was shipped seperately from everything else, and for whatever reason, it wasn't boxed/enclosed in anything, just shipped as you'd see it sitting on a shelf in CompUSA. Needless to say, it is obvious the box was dropped somewhere between newegg and my house, and the PSU itself was a bit mishaped because of the force of this impact I would assume. Do you think the PSU is to blame for the instability then?

Ok just noticed the Show 3d View button in ATITOOL which will load the video card so I can see the load temps.. doing so now.. So it hit 118 before my system crashed. (it crashed on default core and memory speed settings)

I scaled back the core and memory to 450 both, and did the 'scan for artifacts' let that run for 2 minutes, temps peaked and stayed right around 128

after letting it run for even longer, it seems like core 450mhz and memory 450mhz is stable. Now I just don't know if it becomes unstable because the PSU is bad or if the video card is bad and just overheating too much.

I'm leaning toward the PSU being the problem here. I'm not sure how hot that card can get, but my ATI 9800 makes a ton of heat, even when it's not under stress. I'd get in contact with newegg and explain what happened to the PSU during shipping. They should send you another.

Your GPU is 128C at load??? If that's the case, there's your problem. Make sure your card is free of dust, and that the fan is working and spinning at 100% - you can do this in ATITOOL.

I set the fan to force it to spin at 100%

idle temp is 58 (after about 2 minutes of 100% fan on). I'm assuming that Celsius and not Farenheit.

is that an ok idle temp?

under load using the 3D View button, its up to 128 after about a minute and a half

it's reading
GPU Temp: 128
Temp of Temperature Chip: 70
after 3 minutes

It's not a terrible idle temp, but what's more important is the load temp. I don't know what the X850XT thermal ceiling is, but if it's similar to my X800XL, you'll want to keep it below 90C.

look at one of the reviews from newegg
"My 3d05 score is 7400 and my 3d03 score is 14600. My system is AMD64 4000+ overclocked to 2.8 with xms 3200ram. Those scores are with my video card overclocked, with catalyst ATI drivers. The driver lets you overclock different ways which is awsome. It will lets you overclock only when using 3D. This way when your browsing the web its not overclocked. This card always stays cool, I never see it past 62degrees and I game for hours. This card will play anything out there and do it well with all your settings high with resonable frame rates." http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRatingReview.asp?Item=N82E16814241013

never passes 62... wow. lol. Mine is barely under that at idle. So Phil, you think my video card is just a dud some how? There is no dust or anything hampering the fan, its spinning fast, I can feel the air coming out the back vent. I'm not sure what to do.

How is the airflow in your case? The temps you have listed, are those with the case door off or on?

Possibly, the heatsink on the card is badly seated. You could probably remove the heatsink, replace the thermal paste with some arctic silver 5, and then reseat the heatsink.
