Updated to 1305 BIOS, same error. The title of the window that pops up is ASUSACPI.exe - Application Error.

Another thing that's a little peculiar is that when there is no media in the drive, it lists itself as a DVD-RAM.

Anybody?

re: ASUSACPI.exe
That's a file in the root of the P5WDH CD. I wish I could be of more help on this issue. I just have no idea WTH it means.

re: DVD-RAM
If the drive label says DVD-RAM is just means that you DVD/RW supports the DVD-RAM disc specification. Perfectly normal, nothing to worry about.

Anyone here have trouble installing intel raid on this board. i made a raid driver floppy with the driver cd in windows and it gives me the wrong friggin driver. i just found this out from reading a post on another site. i tried installing raid with the wrong driver like ten times and got blue screen every time. so how do I go about getting the correct raid drivers? i went on intel's website and was only able to find a intel matrix raid manager. i don't even know what that is. anyone can help i'd appreciate it.

Edit: jumpered to be master/slave, not cable select...

For everyone having problems with their DVD/CD drives on the Intel IDE port - the blue one - check that none of the pins are missing, bent, or pushed in. A poster on another forum was having PIO mode issues with his DVD drive and noticed this very problem, after spending days troubleshooting.

UPDATE:

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! I swtiched the DVD drive from another computer, and had the same issue. So I took out the IDE cable that I had used (I remembered two came with the motherboard). The one I had put in first was labeled "CD-ROM Cable". I switched it with the "HDD Cable" and everything works fine now. Thanks for the help phil

Cool. Glad to hear that. It's also good to know that both cables aren't identical.

Helo everybody ,

First of all excuse my poor english , but i'm not native english talking.

I recently bought me a new system , this are the componements that i have now :

- Asus P5W DH Deluxe bios 1305
- Intel 6600 with original fan
- Hyper Type R 580 Modular PSU
- Asus 7900 GT
- 2 x HD maxtor 300 Gb
- 4 x HD maxtor 200 Gb
- Pioneer 110 DVD RW
- LG combo
- Thermaltake Kandalf tower (1 x 12" fan at the front (air go inside) , 1 x 12" fan at the rear (air go outside) , 1 x 8 fan on top (air go outside))

I have several problems :

1) Temperature problem.

The cpu temp seems to be ok , i have 33 °(celsius)
Motherboard temp is running too high : when my pc is idle , i have 51°(celsius) and alerts from asus pc probe.
By the way i had the same material before (exept a amd 3800 x2 am2 cpu and msi mothrerboard) before my temp was good +- 35 for cpu and MB , so i think that my tower was cooled enough with the fans i had.
I have not installed the optional chipset fan because i read that it was tu use only with watercooling solutions.

2) Hard disk problems.

I will not use a raid solution , (because my disks are already mostly full , i and will not loose the content of them.) , so i would like to use all of the SATA ports as standart non raid ports.
I tried to find a solution tu use the 2 ez-backup ports as standart SATA port , but i din't found find a way to do it.
I can use 1 port as standart sata but not 2.

One other hard disk is connected to the sata port situated near the CPU (i think it is the jmicron port) and i have very poor burst speed on this one --> +- 85 mb/sec (this is one of the 300 gb disk) , all the others are giving me better results , the same model connected to the intel sata port give me +- 218 mb/sec.
When i use HD tach , the drive with slow speed is mentionned as "external drive" , i don't understand why.

I tried to find help om several forums from my country but no one could help me , it seems that some experts are on this forum , so i hope to find a solution to my problem.

re: poor English
Your English is excellent. Better than many whose native tongue is English.

re: PC Probe II
Do not use this terrible piece of software. Monitor your system temps with Speedfan or Everest. Monitor your CPU temps with CoreTemp (this application reads sensors on the CPU die, one near each core). You can download CoreTemp here:
http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=137

The CPU temp as read by the BIOS, Probe II, Speedfan, etc., likely comes from a sensor on the motherboard.

re: motherboard temperature
The motherboard temp readings are high on this board because the sensor is located by the ICH7R Southbridge, which runs hot. An idle temp of ~50C is quite normal for this board, and nothing to worry about. Intel's documentation on the ICH7R SB states that its thermal ceiling is ~100C. However, there are a few things you can do to help lower the temps. Read this thread for more info:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=106563

re: EzRaid ports
I'm pretty sure that it's not possible to run two SATA drives non-RAID on these ports.

re: JMicron port
I haven't used the JMicron controller, myself, so I can't be of any help on this matter. Did you install the drivers?

Thank you for your fast reply.

For my temp , i already had controlled that the values with everest , and they are the same as the temp given by the asus soft. My bios also report the same values.
But if 50 degrees is a normal temp for this board i don't need to worry about then.
I will try to remove the protection of the passive cooler to see if it gives better results.

For my hard disks , i can't believe that asus will oblige me to connecting my drives in raid mode... It must be a way to connect 6 sata non-raid drives to this mobo , i have sent a message to the asus team , if i have a positive answer i will publish the answer here.

When stress testing with Orthos is it better to do it set on Blend or Small FFT? There seems to be some contradiction from what I have read.Right now I'm just using Blend.

Use small fft to heat the cpu.

I've been reading elsewhere (xtremesystems.org would be nice to post at if they'd only validate new members) and supposedly the best move instead of just the stickers is to permanently remove the metal covers, which were described as being held on by double-sided tape, then adding a fan for cooling. Did they come off for anyone without removing the heatsinks? Every disassembly makes me remember the one motherboard that didn't survive that.

Still trying to get my E6300 over 2.42Ghz, and even that's only when using the built-in Overclock 30% profile...

Can you remove the "foil" cover with them still mounted? Yes, but personally I wouldn't.
1st- You would protect yourself from accidentally slipping, and damaging the mobo.
2nd- It would give you the chance to put some AS 5 on that bad boy

It is not difficult at all. Took me about 10min. The TIM replacement would probably be more beneficial anyway.

Is there any way to use the two ez sata connections without raiding them or doing anything wacky? It annoys me that I can't just get a sata connection from them.

Nope. The ICH7R Southbridge is equipped with support for only 4 SATA2 ports. Notice how SATA #2 is missing on the P5WDH. To provide the EzBackup and EzRaid feature, ASUS took SATA2 and spliced it into two ports.

yeeeeaahhhhh, my Core 2 system is up and running and I even followed the guide over at XS for putting AS5 under the NB and SB heatsinks. Just waiting for my G.Skills to arrive so I can start OC'ing.
P5W-DH Deluxe
E6600 OEM
AC Freezer 7 Pro (Ninja on the way)
2x512 DDR2 667 Corsair ValueRam (G.Skills on the way)
CoolerMaster CAC-T05 (Black one with silver trims and clear window (no etched logo on it and a 120MM Yate rigged using some zip-ties in the middle 3 5.25 bay Like So, I also swapped the exhaust fan with a Yate since the stock fan was moving little air)
150GB Raptor
1 BenQ DW1655 DVD-RW
nVidia 6200TC low-profile PCI-e vid card (runs off of PCI power)
OCZ ModStream 520
wifi module removed.

Core temp reports 40 degrees during day and 36 during night idle (in NY, warm day today)

Why wait to start OCing?
Download the 1402 or 1403 BIOS so you can lower the multi, and see what your mobo can do. Or put the mem on a low divider, and see how far you can go. I know I couldn't wait myself

That is still a high idle with the Freezer 7 Pro, did you check your IHS for flatness?

I am using the paste that was on the Freezer, oh and what I meant to say about the vid card is that I dont have to plug in the PCI-E Power connector to it (it donsn't have one) the PCI-E bus power is adequate for it. I also need some OC'ing reading material. Also ASUS site shows 1305 as the latest which I flashed yesterday.

Can anybody post(pics would be really helpful) how to mount a fan on the NB and SB heatsinks. Sorry for the noobish question, but I always run my case vertically and can't come up with a way to mount a fan. Also, eyeballing it, it looks like it would be a tight squeeze even to install a 40MM fan over it as I have the Ninja(the monuting bracket extends very close to the NB) and I have the 7950GX2 which is an extra long card and the fan of the gfx card sits right on top of it. Any help is really appreciated. I have already put everything together and a bit afraid to apply AS5 on the NB and SB(I am very lousy at these things, I already bent/broke the fins on the NB heatsink when I installed the Ninja and put too much pressure on it while installing it ).

1402, and 1403 are still beta found here They work great for testing max chipset fsb.
I was just poking fun of that video card because the user name.
Read over this thread over at XS. Can be very helpfull.

I'll try and post some pics of how I did mine later(6PM PST.) Don't expect much from the pic, my digi cam is trash. Basically I mouted a 40mm fan directly on top of the chipset. The screws that go into the corners of the fan "thread" into the cooler fins to hold it down.

Aah well thanks for that, I used to game quite a lot (many all-nighters) but now I have to get my priorities straight and finish the course I've started. I chose this handle on a game trading site and than it became my preferred internet ID.

And I asked for OC reading material because this will be my first ever official OC, most of the OC linguo is greek for me (Ram divider?) so I'm a n00b at OC'ing and plus this is my first ever intel build. Thanks and help appreciated.
