I havent had any with mine. Use it to play DAoC with a second account. No more lag than what I experience on the main pc hardwired to router. I'm pretty happy with it. Have you tried to hardwire it straight into your router and see if performance increases or decreases?

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone - especially Phil and MikePaul for their help!

I replaced my motherboard and everything went fine with the new version! I can only imagine that I had a really old BIOS or that there was an issue with it!

I also had to replace the PSU aswell - so am guessing the two were related ... now I'm off to battel for my money back on the two originals!

Running Vista RC2 - no problems - a little flakey on the wifi internet connection but not big deal as its only a test system right now.

Thanks again all - I'll report my OC findings soon!

Hey guys it's me again...

I just got my RMAed motherboard. It's turning out I'm having the same problem of not posting after I turn the computer on. I'm way past the line right now, and I'm about to sell all the (working) parts off on ebay or something.

Anyway, can it be possible that the CPU is causing it not to post? If so, I might try one last ditch effort in getting a Pent D 805 just to see if I can scavenge everything.

Thanks for any help.

Did you ever try a different power supply?

I did. Now instead of my Rosewill I'm on those new fangled Antec HE 550w psu's.

The only things I haven't replaced are the CPU, RAM dimms and GPU. I somewhat doubt it's the ram as I used one at a time to see if I had a bad stick, and the same result would happen. Now it could be the RAM if I have to bad sticks which I somewhat doubt (though it is still possible, so I'm keeping my mind open). From what I knew, a GPU can't keep the mobo from posting... right? This ordeal has thrown everything I knew for a loop. So my conclusion now is that it could be the CPU, but still... the only way I can see it being damaged is if I screwed my Zalman C9500 heatsink in too tight or something, and damaged the transitors. Otherwise I did everything as slowly and delibirately as I could, and if I damaged it it isn't in anyway I can remember.

So, can it be the CPU that's keeping the computer from booting?

Of course, it could be yet another bad motherboard, which... just totally blows.

Not sure if this question fits here but..

I want to remove the Intel stock fan from the E6600 I have on my PW5. I want to install a Scythe Ninja heat sink/fan. My problem is the Scythe fan connector is 3 pin and the PW5 is 4 pin. Can I just attach fan to one of the 3 pin adapters? I read the 4 pin is for software control so I assume I would lose that for now.

The reason for fan change is that when I first booted up in new system with Media Center I saw mobo was at 125F and CPU was around 100F (fanless vid card was 200F - idle!).

An interesting thing was that I flashed the bios (to 1407) right after taking temp reading and after the flash temps were lower. Mobo was around 88F and vid card was 175F. I did see the 1407 bios addressed certain video conflicts though I didnt have the specific conflict mentioned on Asus site.

For what its worth, I was using a Sapphire card and quite a few other posts I saw concerning high mobo temps also listed Sapphire cards.

Thanks

Man, I feel for you. Especially, after reading that your replacement PSU is an Antec NEO HE. Apparently, a line of these PSUs are known to have been extremely problematic. As for your CPU, I highly doubt it's the problem. Could be the vidcard, though. I'm not 100% sure, but I do not think a board will POST if the vidcard is DOA.

I think it's time for you to lug all your gear into a shop so that you test each component, separately. Incidentally, which BIOS came with the new board?

You'll notice that the fan connector on the mobo was deliberately designed to work with 3 and 4-pin fan connectors. Disable QFAN in the BIOS and use either Speedfan or a third-party fan controller to control fan speeds.

Jedisponge:
Here's one more idea to try and get your rig going:
Try and power up your mobo outside of the case with just the minimal attachments (RAM, video, hard drive--actually, you don't even need the hard drive probably). It's possible that the case is shorting you out somehow.
Put the mobo on a piece of cardboard or something that won't damage your board and try and power it up.

If that doesn't work, try a different power supply (non-Antec) before you give up. Buy it and return it after you do your testing.
Good luck.

My proc just came back from a replacement and my mobo didn't work, just turns all the fans on and just sits there, no beeps, tried with only vid/ram/proc, no proc, no ram, no vid. Then tried a friends celeron d and still the same. So is my board shot? I also voided the warranty by removing all the metal coverings from the NB and SB heatsinks. I was on the 1405 bios which was working with the previous proc but suddenly stopped working.

Thanks for the suggestion and I will try. The case really could be it, as I tried it once on a previous p5w dh. Inside it wasn't really working, then I took it out and redid everything and it powered on.

phile: again thanks for your endless replies. The current bios is a 1305.

Quite a few people have posted about conflicts with this Asus board and some of the newer Antec PSU's. I would have bought one myself since my earlier Antec has served me well but the issues seemed well known so I avoided Antec. Instead I got a Seasonic SS-550HT 550W. I also did read of a guy who couldn't get system up because his stand-offs were shorting him out ( the Lian Li's can be especially weird that way since they can seem fully extended when they are not).

got my e6400 @ 3.2ghz using 1.412 vcore and 1.65 vmch

can't even boot 410 fsb on this vcore thou, but it's rock stable at 400, ran orthos for 24 hours and other benchies fine, ran a few hours of fear and bf2 also and works fine

it's a week 28, do i have a dud? (I'm on a p5w, so i guess with vdroop it's actually lower than 1.412?)

it definitely needs that voltage, just think it's a bit too much for that clock. also temps are high... around 65 at max load ...and that's with a scythe infinity and some as5 (possibly bad contact?)

any suggestions/comments? full system specs below

600w GameXstream OCZ PSU
2GB DDR2 800 Crucial Ballistix @ 4-4-4-12
E6400 @ 3.2 ghz 1.412 vcore
Sapphire X1900XT 512MB
ASUS P5w DH
WD 250GB SATA II HDD
20" Widescreen Viewsonic Monitor

5413 3dmark06 at stock e6400 speeds
6098 3dmark06 e6400 @3.2ghz.

no OC on the video card yet (i dunno how to )

you could try reseeting the PSU ... unplug the power cable and hold down the Power button. Also try resetting the CMOS if you haven't.

I went through all this about 100 times at the weekend and ended up just replacing the MB and everything worked fine ... a link that I found helpful ...

Stupid question here, (little off topic to) but how do you figure out what week processor you have and what does that really mean.

Well, I took that RAM-on-SPD idea home last night and tried it out, and 1407 booted up OK. I guess they didn't test very well before releasing that 'fix'.

I took the time to benchmark under various conditions:

Everest Home memory benchmarks
BIOS:::::RAM/Timings::::: (MB read per sec/latency ns)
1305:::::SPD/5-6-6-18::::: 7227/53.9
1407:::::SPD/5-6-6-18::::: 8592/53.7
1305:::::manual/4-4-4-12:: 8825/49.2

Seems like 1407 gets more out of the SPD setting, but not as much as 1305 gets out of manual...

Very fishy results. IMO, that's too large a discrepancy to be explained by BIOS version. Could something else have accessed the memory during that first bench?

Dunno. I've had even better numbers on other runs with 1305/manual, so anything can happen. If I get a chance sometime, I'll be more rigerous about the testing...

I'll run the everest mem tests with both 1407 and 1305 and report my findings, as well. I'm just too curious to let this pass.

Update: no appreciable difference between 1407 and 1305.

Is anyone running an E6300, E6400 or E6600 with PC8500 or PC8800 memory.

Could someone post OC numbers with those memory speeds.

Thanks

Thanks for the link, it looks very, very helpful. Though I tried a few (which didn't work shucks), I haven't dug very deep yet. I'll be combing through this very, very finely. So thank you very much.

Also, could anything else be causing the mobo not to POST? Bad memory? The heatsink (Zalman)? Anything else?

jedisponge,

Can you summarize the problems you have had, the components you have, and the troubleshooting you have tried? Br very detailed on the components, both internal and external. For example: if you have a USB hub connected to one of the USB ports, don't leave it out.

Based on that, I will do my best to make some solid suggestions.
