I talked to one of asus's big techs and he did not recommend it. He said bios and device manager would not recognize it. It is just easier to do it with ide on this board is what he says. OK. NO FP.

Do I need to disable anything to get speed fan to work properly with vista and this board? It won't adjust speeds at all. Anyone know.

After reading through this and other threads here in the mobo forum, I decided to get the p5w dh deluxe for my new computer build.

One thing I didn't find here on this board was did anyone have success installing a Tuniq Tower 120 on their p5w dh deluxe? The Tuniq Tower I ordered should be arriving today or tomorrow and I'm planning to build my computer in a P180b this weekend, but I was a little nervous about whether or not there were any components adjacent to the cpu socket that would make it difficult to install the Tuniq.

I have the rest of my components on hand that I've ordered over the past three months and hope to get a nice mild o/c out of the e6300 on this board with the help of the Tuniq. Any helpful hints from others who have installed this hsf on this board would be appreciated.

Now, another question. I have 4 sticks of 1GB ram for 4GB right? Why does it show only 3071MB or 3GB in system properties? I am using vista as I thought it said it would hold up to 8. Anyone care to answer another one of my wonderful time consuming questions?

I'm pretty sure the Tuniq Tower is compatible with the P5WDH.

Whether you're using XP x86 or Vista x86, 32-bit operating systems have a maximum memory addressing space of 4GB. Since your hardware (videocard, pci bus, pci-e bus, etc.) requires some of this addressing space, 4GB of RAM cannot be fully addressed. The only way to have all of your 4GB of RAM addressed, is to move to a 64-bit operating system.

Oh. Am I losing it then?
Also, with the wifi solo, I am using it as to run this computer from my wireless router. Everytime I do a restart it loses the signal and I have to start it up again. Am I missing something here or is that just the way it is? Thanks.

From what I have read, the P5WDH wireless seems to be crap. I have never used it, myself, though. I pulled the card before building my rig.

Okay so everything is running fine on my system with the P5W DH except my Plextor 755SA sata burner, it seems to be burning extrmely slow. After further investigation I found a post where someone said this is fixed after installing the Intel Matrix Raid Drivers.

Does it matter if my SATA drive is in the SATA3 or SATA4 port on the motherboard?

Now when i installed windows i did not press f6 to install third party drivers should I have installed the drivers then?

Today I tried to install the Intel Matrix Storage 'Manager' and it said I did not meet the requirements to install it. In my Device Manager under SCSI/RAID it does not show the intel raid drivers.

Right now I have 3 WD raptors running as separate drives, none are in in RAID0, Just have them running as normal drives. In the BIOS under IDE configuration they are set as follows:

Configure SATA As [Standard IDE]
Onboard IDE Operate Mode [Enhanced Mode]
Enhanced Mode Support On [SATA]

IS this how they should be set to get the best performance out of them individually?
Should this be set to AHCI? I read that the ICH7R does not support AHCI mode?

Bascially I want to know if I need to reformat and install those intel raid drivers on set up to fix my Sata burner problem and to make sure my Raptors are running at the speed they should be?

The Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers are only required if you wish to run your SATA drives in AHCI mode (supported just fine on the ICH7R) or in a RAID array. Normally, you must load these drivers prior to installing Windows. AHCI, in case you were not aware, enables certain features native to SATA drives, like NCQ (Native Command Queuing) and hot-swapping. NCQ seems to result in better performance only in a multi-use environment, so you should not feel that you need to make the switch. It would not be worth the effort.

Now, having said all of that, I fail to understand why one would need the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers in order to get full use of a SATA DVD burner. I'm skeptical of that forum poster's claim. If you wish to install them, just the same, you can find the latest version here:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts...ct_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101&lang=eng

Choose your OS and it should be the first item.

I have a Tuniq on my board, and it installs fine. It's not dead simple to install, but no components get in the way or anything. I installed it with the motherboard out of the case, and then put the motherboard back in gently. Made getting to the screws much easier.

When you have it installed, please post your temps here. Along with the clocks you're running at.

Cheers,
Sid

Yes, you are losing access to some of your RAM. (See previous post for a brief explanation as to why this is the case.) The only way to resolve this is to migrate to a 64-bit operating system.

I have the first shipping version of this board but it is fsb limited to 356 fsb. I am otherwise happy with the board though, so much so I am thinking about purchasing a newer version with 1.85 VMCH.

What is the latest and highest fsb stable version of this board?

I'm confused: my board only goes to 1.65 but THAT doesn't limit me, as I get to 410FSB before my memory stops working right.

I realize an E6300 isn't the CPU of choice for most people, though. Perhaps that makes a difference...

So what if I took out one stick, will this board work with 3 sticks of ram or would it be better to have 2? or better to have 3 and waste the one stick in the board and when 64 is stable with drivers use upgrade to 64. My Ultimate came with 32 and 64 so that is no problem.

If you have no other use for your second pair of DIMMS, leave them as is. You definitely want to have either 2 or 4 DIMMS, to ensure all memory is running in dual mode. Honestly, though, 2GB is all you need with a 32-bit OS, since 32-bit software can address a maximum of 2GB of memory. So, no single 32-bit application will benefit from you having more than 2GB installed.

Hello P5W forum!

Can I run a SINGLE SATA drive on the Silicon Image EZ RAID controller?

I've set the motherboard jumper to BIG and the appropriate change in BIOS... but the drive is not recognized by the BIOS or Windows. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

I haven't tried it, but from what I have read, it should work. Have you tried each of the two ports?

FWI... the drive is good (and so is the cable) because I was previously using it on the J-Micron controller. However, using that controller I get audio dropouts when streaming digital audio using the J-Micron. Using utility called the DPC (Deferred Procedure Call) Latency Checker... I determined the J-Micron controller and/or it's driver is not suitable for digital audio.

I have no interest or need to run drives in RAID, so my hope is that I can run a single drive on the EZ-RAID controller. I actually have a legitimate need for 4 hard SATA drives in this system... so I hope I can make that work without enabling the J-Micron.

I moved the drive into the second EZ-RAID port, and the system freezes in BIOS twice in a row. Moved it back to the original slot... no problem. But of course neither BIOS or Windows recognizes the drive.

Figured it out... simply remove BOTH jumpers from the RAID jumper settings on the motherboard. Connected 4th SATA drive to the EZ-RAID1 port and all is well! 4 SATA drives (non-raid) without using the JMicron... just exactly what I wanted.
