I don't use anything but Core Temp anymore. What it says seems OK: when temps were over 60C, I was due for a crash.

These guys have more practice but I didn't like SpeedFan...

After uninstalling PC Probe II and Everest, and then reinstalling Everest, all of my temp regisiters are working normally. Very clearly PC Probe II threw a monkey wrench into the monitoring.

How did you 'reset' your BIOS - selecting "load default settings" and then F10 to save and boot?

If you do load BIOS defaults and before saving and booting, when you go through the setting are they still stuck with your OC'd settings? If they are not, trying saving the defaults to OC profiles 1 and 2.

If that doesn't work, you could try clearing your RTC RAM in CMOS by moving the jumper caps to the clear position (see chapter 2, pg 26 in the manual for detailed instructions).

There are other ways people have reset flashed to prior BIOS when troubled occured after having trouble with certain versions. I'm not familiar with the details besides using certain program on floppy disks, but you can search this thread.

I would also highly recommend searching through this thread over on the XTreme Systems forums if you haven't already. It is far and away the most active support and discussion thread out there when it comes to this board. It's currently 206 pages long so there is a lot to sift through... though pages 205 and 206 both have discussion of someone having BIOS resetting issues...

hope that helps,

- dw

What's the negative impact (if any) of installing a single SATA drive on SATA3 with the RAID_SEL jumpered to BIG?

Once I did that, I noticed that drive being listed several times during bootup, and I'm concerned that BIG means that if I add another drive to maybe SATA4 they will be merged into one BIG drive instead of treated separately. If nothing bad has happened to the first drive, like permanent file corruption due to RAIDing it for a while, can I just pull the jumper from the BIG position and add another drive and be done with RAID?...

I don't understand your question.
RAID_SEL is for RAID type choice on the additional Silicon Image chip controlling the EZ_RAID1 and EZ_RAID2 connectors. It has nothing to do with SATA1, SATA3 and SATA4 that are controlled by the Intel chipset.

I looked in Bios but didn't see anything obvious to set. Have I missed something?
If you missed something, I missed it too. I haven't played with it since it didn't work on Day 1.

Perhaps somewhere in the audio controls there's a switch for that input that isn't active. I see how the other inputs are constantly monitored and if you plug something in you're asked what it is, but with the MP3-in in an inconvenient place under my desk I'd have to play with it more than I want to. Plus my NEED for that input is very limited since streaming MP3s FROM my computer TO my Xbox 360 is far far more common now...

Can someone help with this issue??
I'm having the same issue over here...

While installing an additional 2 gigs of RAM to my P5W DH, I got a little hasty and ended up with a little problem. I'm not sure if I was pushing too hard or if it was a faulty component, but I managed to wedge loose the bracketing mechanism that holds the RAM in place in the slot. It was just on one side of the slot, and now the RAM will not stay in place when installed. I'm sure I could slap some contact cement in there to keep the one side in place... and attempt to wedge the RAM in, but that is a less than ideal solution. Any ideas?

I guess seeing that drive mentioned several times during bootup was what made me think the RAID_SEL jumper setting of BIG was affecting how the drive was being handled. I'll be getting another 500GB drive as soon as one I like is back under $100, so I'll find out what happens then.

Thanks...

Hi

I was recnetly lucky enough to get a QX6700 CPU which I've installed OK but although ir is recohnised in the Setup correctly and in Windows XP64 as a 2.66Ghz Cpu, it also says it is running at 2.4Ghz. Default settings return the same results. I am not particularly technical but can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

Sorry for being a dickhead - I discovered I had to manually set the multiplier to 10, but there again shouldn't the BIOS automatically do that for you?

Hi.
I have been using this mboard for a while now and been very happy with it.
However, I would like to overclock my E6600 from 2.4 to 3ghz and since I am new to oc-ing, was wondering if you guys can give me some pointer.
So far I know I have to increase the vcore voltage, then keep the multiplier and increase the fsb but I am not sure about the combination.

My rig is in my signature btw, thanks in advance and sorry for such noob question ^_^

I finally got everything working to my liking except for S3. I can only manually select standby for it to enter into standby. Also, my mouse(G5) and keyboard(G15) can not wake up my computer; only the power button. I reinstalled all the drivers and can't figure it out. Does anyone have any ideas?

Maybe some of you more knowledgeable folks will be able to help me out with this potentially huge problem I am having.

I built my PC with this board and a E6600 over a year ago and I've been using the "Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II" northbridge heatsink and overclocking at a stable speed of 3GHz. Well, this afternoon when I boot up my PC, the monitor didn't pick-up the video signal. I thought my graphic card (x1900xt) was fried or something. Tried shutting down and booting up a few time and still the same problem, so I open up the case and noticed that one of the two northbridge hook (clip 3) that was holding the heatsink on had actually broken off from the motherboard! The heaksink was just dangling on the other hook and no longer making contact with the northbridge chip! I have no idea how long that has been going on, and the PC was working fine last night.

I used a instant-bond adhesive from RadioShack to glue the hook back on, but it wasn't strong enough to hold the Extreme Spirit II in place, so I put the P5WDH original northbridge heatsink back on. Well, that didn't do the trick. Still got no video signal and I don't have another PCIe graphic card to test it out. However, I am thinking that the nortbridge chip is fried

Any thoughts or suggestions?

My mouse and keyboard are both USBs. It does have something to do with ACHI. I have to enable EIDE or S3 will freeze when I wake it up. I'm thinking of reinstalling Vista because of this issue but not sure if it will remedy this problem/issue.

I'd like to know how the P5W DH Deluxe would cope with one of the new FSB1333 processors *without* having been updated to a BIOS revision that officially supports FSB1333 processors (2205 beta according to ASUS).

Would it be possible to get the system to boot so a BIOS update can be performed or can we expect problems similar to the ones when this board launched last year (i.e. needing a pre-C2D processor to perform the BIOS update or even get a replacement BIOS chip from ASUS)?

I'd originally planned on getting a P5W DH Deluxe (I may want to use ECC RAM with it) and an E6600 after the price cuts on July 22, but right now no local dealer has FSB1066 C2D processors listed (are they being phased out?) and why not get an FSB1333 cpu if the board supports it...

Are you 100% sure you really have a QX6700? By default its multiplier is 10x unless changed. BIOS 2205 re-enables controlling the multiplier on this chip in the 6x-20x range.

Download CPU-Z or some other CPUID program like Intel's processor identification tool (look on Intel's website) and tell us what it reports to you.

I have a qx6850 running in the asus p5w dh mobo and it runs ok. Right now I am getting alot of BSOD but that could be because my wireless lan card is not supported by vista 64 bit.

Does anyone have issues disabling the onboard audio? For some reason when I try to disable it, it becomes enabled again after the next restart. I think that could be why I am getting BSOD. Its getting very annoying...

I've got a problem with this board..

Basically it wont let me boot into windows. I install windows on a IDE drive I have connected, and then when I restart, I get some "windows cannot boot, please check your hardware" and stuff like that ... so I go into the bios, and its not seeing the drive at all. The only things that appear on the main screen under IDE stuff are my two disc drives.

When I go ont the boot tab thing at the top, it doesn't even let me choose which hard drive is the main one. Its like it doesn't see them at all. I want to say it thinks my IDE hd is a SATA drive and some how that is messing it up but im not sure how that would be possible at all.

I've had this board for a while with no problems. Latley it's stopped booting (sometimes with a BSOD), I usuually have to clear the CMOS yto get it to boot again (no OC).
So I decided to flash to 2004 last night. Flashed it want into jumperfree choose 266 as FSB (Conroe 6400) . Then later after rebooting several times I decided to up the FSB a bit, went into jumperfree and it won't let me change the FSB from 266. Tired several times with the same result.
Any ideas?
