Maybe some of you more knowledgeable folks will be able to help me out with this potentially huge problem I am having.
I built my PC with this board and a E6600 over a year ago and I've been using the "Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II" northbridge heatsink and overclocking at a stable speed of 3GHz. Well, this afternoon when I boot up my PC, the monitor didn't pick-up the video signal. I thought my graphic card (x1900xt) was fried or something. Tried shutting down and booting up a few time and still the same problem, so I open up the case and noticed that one of the two northbridge hook (clip 3) that was holding the heatsink on had actually broken off from the motherboard! The heaksink was just dangling on the other hook and no longer making contact with the northbridge chip! I have no idea how long that has been going on, and the PC was working fine last night.
I used a instant-bond adhesive from RadioShack to glue the hook back on, but it wasn't strong enough to hold the Extreme Spirit II in place, so I put the P5WDH original northbridge heatsink back on. Well, that didn't do the trick. Still got no video signal and I don't have another PCIe graphic card to test it out. However, I am thinking that the nortbridge chip is fried
Any thoughts or suggestions?
