If the Alex Smith to KC trade goes through as its been reported, I'll be stoked.

F*** you!

Its like deja vu. Well regarded personnel guy makes a trade for some other teams cast-off, plus throw in the 90s deja vu with the 49ers castoffs in particular.

I actually like Alex Smith, I don't think he's as bad as he's been made out to be, and I think Reid's WCO will fit him well. He's definitely much better than "Casshole". However, potentially 2 2nd rounders including the 34th pick this year is just too much. Plus it tells me they don't plan on drafting a QB and being serious about him taking over. I'm holding out hope that they're doing this so that they can draft Geno or maybe trade down and draft him or someone else and then let them sit for a couple of years like Rodgers. But I fully expect those hopes to be dashed.

They could seriously fuck things up though. If they let Albert walk and draft Joeckel or another tackle I'll be pissed. Then again maybe they'll go for the double whammy and draft a major DL bust a la Tyson Jackson.

They're pretty f'ed though as no one is worth the 1st overall pick this year, based on what we know now, so them saying a QB isn't worth it when its by far the most important position and biggest need for the team is just the dumbest shit ever. Even more baffling is that Geno's coming off a lot like Russell Wilson or Kaepernick. Yeah it'd be so damn awful if you get a guy that caliber out of the #1 overall pick.

Andy Reid doesn't seem to be good for any QBs. He calls 60 pass plays a game then the QB ends up with 3 or 4 INTs and ends up on his keister more often than not, then they get worn out during the season after being sacked/knocked down so much. Chiefs have some talent, they had 6 pro bowlers this last season, the most of any team I think?

Chief's fans definitely deserve better than what they have got in recent years (or maybe more like the past decade), they always pack up that huge stadium and go nuts then the team stinks up the joint every year. Give those fans a team! They play in a weak division at least.

Just...Andy Reid, meh, i dunno.

I think Alex will do well in KC. They have a pretty good oline, running game and defense. He should be able to cut down on how many turnovers KC had last year.

The Chiefs are like the Niners in that they have individual talents, just needed someone to put it all together. Andy Reid is that guy. They also need an efficient qb, Alex Smith is that guy. I'm calling for the Chiefs to go to the playoffs this season, possibly as a wildcard team.

They have good running game, a lot of talent on defense, good receivers and tight ends, serviceable o line which can be bolster with the number one overall pick. They will be contender in the AFC West, with the division as is, and their supposed soft schedule.

A second round pick and conditional third is not at all expensive for Smith, all things considered.

I hope the Niners go after Revis. All they need is a good CB to completely dominate the league.

If the 49ers have to give up anything higher than their own second round pick (pick 63?), I hope they don't. It'll be a one-year rental as there is no way the 49ers could afford to keep Revis after this year with all the other extensions coming due (Aldon, Kaepernick, Crabtree). The draft this year is loaded at every position but QB and they should be able to grab a good DB in their first 3 picks. Not to mention, who knows how Revis will turn out after his rehabbed ACL.

KC overpaid big for a QB who struggles to score points. They should have tried for Flynn who at least showed he could throw the ball all over the place efficiently.

The 49ers fans I work with are stoked. They say KC got robbed.

that is what happened to Joe M and Steve Bono.

So no team is going after Matt Flynn of the sea chickens?

What I've heard is that Flynn is cheap enough that the Seahawks would rather just hold onto him, knowing that they have a competent backup in case Wilson goes down. I'm sure they wouldn't turn down a ridiculous trade offer but they're not actively shopping him either.

As a chiefs fan I'm not all that excited about this. I'm probably most happy I wont have to see Cassel trot out on the field next year. Is Smith better than Cassel? Currently yes. Smith can probably lead the chiefs to 8-10 wins next year, maybe a wildcard. But I dont see him taking the chiefs to a superbowl or even a conference championship game. The Chiefs will be average the next 3 or 4 years or however long they stick with Smith then we repeat the process. The Chiefs have never drafted and developed a successful quarterback. I didnt want them to waste the number one pick this year on a quarterback, but I was hoping to take one in the second which wont happen now since we traded that pick away. Maybe Tyler Wilson in the 3rd? They are going to get rid of Cassel, and Quinn is gone so the Chiefs will need a backup

I just looked up the stats ,career wise Matt Cassel and Alex Smith have nearly identical stats. Its only been the past two years where Smith has been drastically better, and thats probably a testement to Harbaugh as a coach more than anything.

I'm going to miss Harvin. Good thing I didn't buy that jersey like I almost did.

We need him, the lone bright spot on our secondary. He wants too much money though, so
he may be gone.

I agree, but I think we'd be better moving him to SS and then drafting a true ball hawk for FS. Whitner had a horrible season last year.

they the vikes release Harvin or trade him?

It's all rumors right now. They would NEVER release Harvin, not this year at least. The absolute worse possible thing that could happen is they don't give him a new contract, he holds out and only plays the final 6 games of next season, gets released next offseason, and the Vikings get something like a 3rd round compensatory pick in 2014. I don't think the Vikings will let that happen. They'll either pay him or trade him for the right price. There's a lot of buzz as to what the right price actually is, but as a Vikings fan I wouldn't want less than a 1st rounder for him. I guess maybe the 49ers could offer the 34th overall pick (top of the 2nd round) they got from KC.

I still think the Vikings can make Percy happy if they sign him to a fairly lucrative extension. And I don't think we can afford to let him go. We're strapped for WRs as it is even with him on the team.

Alex Smith started getting better during the end of the season before Harbaugh, who then worked his magic.

I could see KC drafting Wilson or EJ Manuel with their 3rd if they're there. Here's a good write up on Manuel: http://mattwaldmanrsp.com/2013/02/27/the-kaepernick-project-fsu-qb-e-j-manuel/

I forgot about Manuel. Chiefs passed on Russell Wilson and sort of passed on Kaepernick the last couple years

The 49ers with Harvin, Crabtree, Manningham, Gore, Davis, and Kaepernick would be a matchup nightmare.

As a fellow lifelong Vikings fan, I'm going to disagree and say I hope they can find a way to trade him before the season. As good / explosive as he is, I don't think he's worth the headache in the locker room.

Just a guess, but I'm going to bet that if a trade happens, it's going to be a 2nd and a 4th for him. I don't think they'll get a first just because his tantrum with Leslie Frasier earlier in the year was all over sports news, plus past migraine problems, plus his complete disconnect from the team during the offseasons and while rehabbing his ankle -- I just think teams see him as risky.

If he could clean up his act a bit, I'd have no problem with them dropping big money to keep him here. It's not like Ponder is going to be worth $8m+ anytime soon.

So KC has become the place where the niners dump their unwanted QBs. Joe Montana, Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac, and Alex Smith.

Grbac was the first chiefs quarterback I can remember watching when I was little.

In any case the list of Chiefs quarterbacks since Montana, aside from Trent Green and Rich Gannon, is a depressing list to view.
