Seems like the NFL needs a "no-scumbag front office" clause where they can simply leverage contracts by signing another position player.

The knife cuts both ways.

Those are not two sides of the same knife.

They are not even in the same drawer.

But thanks for playing.

The Vikings signed that useless Webb, and I'm pretty sure it was to get some info on Trestman's offensive plans. The 49ers just signed a waived Seattle receiver, probably for the same reason.

Except that the Vikings and the 49ers both needed to add depth at those positions.

Would you really take Tolzien or Wallace with no training camp or preseason on your team over Vince Young who has been with your team for a month?

The Packers had 0 depth at QB. They cut ALL backup quarterbacks.

Wallace also worked with some of the Green Bay staff when he was drafted to Seattle back in 2003, and would "fit the bill" better behind Rodgers than any other QB they believe they could have gotten at the time.

The vince young thing made no sense to me as well. But they did need depth at QB. And saying otherwise proves you do not know as much as you think going on at Green Bay. What it sounds like is Vince Young just didn't fit with the offense and had trouble learning the more difficult plays as he is always used to a more mobile QB offense. The president of GB even apologized saying it was his fault as they didn't bring Vince in early enough to learn the offense to comfort before the season was to begin.

Given you're a 9ers fan, your lack of objectivity makes your argument quite transparent here. Sorry, but it really can't be taken at face value.

I understand what you're trying to say, but at the same rate you have to admit bringing in a position player JUST to leverage an existing player into restructuring a contract is a pretty douche move in itself. Yes, it's a business, but so it what Seneca did.

Yes, poor Seneca Wallace, sitting on his ass in his house, getting tricked into signing onto an NFL roster and getting paid for it. Seneca quit on the team after signing a contract; I'd say that's a pretty unprofessional thing to do.

Off to the CFL.

seriously. the dude needs to suck it up and pull a Flutie for a few years, before he can ever hope to return to the NFL again.

Hell, Warner spent a decent number of years over there before coming from nowhere, and then heading straight to the HoF. (um yeah--Tebow is not going to the HoF, in any league...just saying.)

I'm late to the news but the Saints picked up Robert Meachem. I don't know why they did..... odd decision.

Packers went all the way through training camp and the pre-season and ended up cutting their backups, including Vince Young. Then they sign Wallace, who is basically an older, not as talented, Vince Young, who has had ZERO training camp with anyone and about a week of pre-season (with about ZERO practice reps).

They must think Wallace is Albert Einstein compared to Young.

At least Tolzien has a current working knowledge of the Packer-style WCO.

Being a 49ers fan does not make my correct opinion on this subject any less correct.

Allegedly signing a player to leverage another player is not the same as signing your next opponent's former backup QB.

If you cannot see that, then perhaps it is your biases that need review.

Allegedly? Come on dude. The 9ers signed Wallace for the LAST WEEK of preseason. They had absolutely no intentions of keeping him, he was at best a one week meatshield and leverage. He was never even their "backup". He was a body for week 4.

Wallace knew he was going to be gone on the 53 man cuts. Why would he NOT take an offer from any other team that was going to keep him on the active roster regardless of the situation? If it were me, I'd do it too, and I'm not ashamed to say that.

I would, too. I never said I faulted Wallace, did I?

Apologies, IAYM's comment stuck in my head as coming from you.

Still, the situation would never have played out as such if the 9er's front office didn't play the restructuring game with McCoy. The blame, ultimately, wholly rests on them.

Except, in your scenario, if McCoy does not restructure, he gets cut and Wallace gets to keep his job with the 49ers, which is not a bad gig. It could have worked out quite nicely for him. As it turns out, being with the 49ers, even for a week, probably made him more attractive to the Packers.

It is not like the 49ers had him spend the week working in the salt mines.

I am not crying for Wallace.
