I waited till 5am to see if I got the beta key... but to no avail... and fell asleep... then I woke up and saw my e-mail that it was received at 7:30am... blah... downloading it right now at 10-15Mbps... going to install it then I have to go to work...
Heh, I'm sort of pissed it's only downloading at 750KB/sec. here, even though I won't be able to play in 6 hours.

Just played a few rounds, it's damn good! Looks gorgeous on my comp: core i5 750, 4gb ram, 5770. I'm playing 1920x1200 on high, with I think 16xaf, and getting a VERY stable 30fps. Literally my FPS range is 27-35, whatever happens on screen barely changes fps so it is SOOO much smoother than BC2 was. 30fps feels fine to me actually, but I may adjust to try and get a few more.

I really suck so far, but I'm impressed and shall be playing this a lot!

edit: where is the commo-rose? I don't see a key binding for it nor any other way to spot/communicate.

How the heck do you manage your key bindings? I try to change them and it doesn't do anything. Is there at least a file somewhere I can modify manually?

Found this:

Found a workaround for the key binding on the mouse. Though some of the responses I got in the forum are silly.

Create another profile for your gaming mouse, and bind KEYSTROKES to the buttons.

Save profile

In game, select control to modify, and then select button on mouse. It will think its a keystroke and bind to it. I have successfully done this, saved the keybinding, exited the game, came back in, and gone into a server and found my keybindings are still there.

Good luck!

Whats the status on changing your soldier persona? I know this is only for a week or so but I have a long BF history with a persona that isnt the master account.

DICE says Commo-Rose will be in the full game (on PC), not ready for the Beta.

I couldn't find a file. It was suggested to me that if you have a programmable mouse or keyboard, use it's functionality, but I don't have anything fancy enough.

Edit: I installed Logitech Setpoint last night and was immediately disappointed that it didn't seem to allow me to edit the left or right click. I just found a document that says I can do it if I reassign the right or left click to another button first. There may be some hope...

It's not in the beta. If you ask me, it's up in the air for the final game, too.

Just logged in and ran around for a quick second and it definitely seems like it will be playable on my compy. Maybe not pretty but seems like it will be OK (more to follow later in the day). I think I had it at 1440x900.

I absolutely cannot believe they'd release this beta without something so stupidly basic and simple as keybinding. Then again, they released BF2 without a functioning server browser, so apparently Dice is still Dice.

What a shame.

I find that it seems as though there's a good framerate, but it's choppy at times and I do get some triangles on occasion. I have the new drivers, and changing the graphics settings changed little for me, as Gully pointed out.

I'm surprised you're surprised. Remember all the problems we had with BF2? Took a long time to get those ironed out.

OTOH, I'm sure they'll fix quite a bit with their first full patch. Time will tell.

As to those who've pointed out the AMD drivers not allowing CF to be enabled, that's interesting because the description of those damn drivers specifically references BF3 & CF. Major wtf there.

I gave you a workaround in a response to your prior post.

Quite fun really, but just had my first experience with a hacker. Shooting from spawn through walls for headshots...lame.

How do you change settings? Hitting escape doesn't bring up anything. And its like it starts off at 720p, and when I Alt-Enter for full screen the edges are all cut off so I can see the map or tickets, etc.

But, its pretty fun. I could do without all the jumping animations, and gun seems unsteady, but among others noobs its fun.

Lol at people complaining about lack of features in a BETA. That is the point of a BETA, to give suggestions to DICE about things that are missing/need improving. If they listen, well thats up to them...

Its not like you are playing the actual full product. If it was, then I would expect complaints.

The new drivers say;

"Improves performance in Battlefield 3 Open Beta release for both non-Anti-Aliasing, and application enabled Anti-Aliasing cases on CrossFire configurations using the AMD Radeon™ HD 6000 and AMD Radeon™ HD 5000 Series"

Can't remember who posted crossfire issues,, but did they have a 4000? May be crossfire isn't working yet on the 4000 series?

Well I'll find out when I get home, I have 6850s crossfire.. hope it works

They need a beta so people can suggest they finish implementing something as ridiculously basic as keybinding?

Please..........

They've definitely improved video performance since the alpha. Back then I was getting single digit FPS when running in my surround resolution. Now on the low preset I get ~80fps. This is with the latest NVIDIA beta drivers.

Demo24 mentioned that the game felt more fluid than BC2. I agree with that - I thought my framerate was much higher than it really was. I was pretty surprised when I started FRAPS and it reported 80 - I thought I was hitting 120.

I like the changes to the subway map - moving point A out of the gazebo was a nice change - most teams I've been on have been getting past the first part of the map now.

My specs if anyone is interested:
i5 2500K @ 4.5
8GB RAM
2x GTX 570 in SLI
3x Viewsonic 22" 120hz monitors @ 5040x1050

New Battlefield Blog Post: Welcome to early access of the Battlefield 3 Open Beta!

Tuesday, 27 September 2011 00:00

Starting today, we are happy to invite eligible players to early access of the much anticipated Battlefield 3 Open Beta!

We want to thank everyone for their interest in this Open Beta. Just by joining, you will help us stress test servers, allow us to run important tests on the game’s back-end, and find potential issues to track.

We would also like to invite you to leave any feedback to us at DICE via the forums in the social platform Battlelog. Remember that this software is in Beta and does not represent final quality. By giving us your valuable feedback on your Open Beta experience, you are helping us gather ideas for where to focus our efforts, either for launch day or for upcoming updates for Battlefield 3.

If you are eligible to early access (by registering a first-hand copy of Medal of Honor: Limited Edition/Tier 1 Edition, or by pre-ordering Battlefield 3 digital download PC version on Origin), you should have received your personal invitation via email by now. If not, please check your spam filter or reach out to our customer service.

The Battlefield 3 Open Beta will be open to all on September 29th. For a full FAQ on the Open Beta and how the early access works, head here.

Once again, we are very happy to be up and running and seeing the server activity graphs point straight to the skies.

Return here during the period of the Open Beta (ends October 10th) for regular updates on what is happening in the game, what feedback we have gathered, and what new features and fixes we are implementing based on your feedback.

Thanks for your help!

/The DICE team

Yup, 4870X2...I didn't think there was that much of an architectural difference between the 4000 and 5000 series, but maybe I'm wrong. Hope it gets worked out though, it's painfully frustrating.
