Starting today, we are happy to invite all players to the Battlefield 3 Open Beta! You can find the download instructions for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC below. For PlayStation 3 users in North America, expect the Open Beta to be downloadable later today, once Sony completes their weekly update.

Played on the Operation Métro map in Rush mode that won us Best Action Game and Best Multiplayer Game at E3, this is your chance to experience one of many flavors of Battlefield 3.

Make sure to head to our free social platform Battlelog to check your in-depth stats progression, start your own Platoon, and see how your friends are doing in the news feed. To get you started on the Operation Métro map, here are some playing tips straight from us at DICE. Enjoy, and let us know what you think!

DICE’S TOP 10 BATTLEFIELD 3 OPERATION MÉTRO TIPS
1) Stick to your team mates, and remember to spawn on them to stay close to the fight.
2) Use your kit specific abilities to help your team mates. Assault can hand out med kits, Engineers can repair vehicles, and Support can hand out ammo.
3) Make sure when you have armed an M-COM station, that you defend it to make sure it is destroyed.
4) The bombed-out tunnel section in Operation Métro is an excellent place to use a flashlight as one of your weapon attachments. Use it to light the tunnels up – and to blind your enemies.
5) Attach bipods to your weapon and deploy it automatically by pushing up against cover or going prone and zooming in – this gives you a huge increase in accuracy and stability.
6) Use suppressive shooting (fire close to enemies behind cover) to negatively effect the enemy’s fighting capabilities.
7) Watch out for falling debris as this can hurt you. But you can also hurt your enemies by taking out buildings with the Engineer’s RPG.
8) Shotguns are excellent for CQC (Close Quarters Combat) in the tighter tunnels sections.
9) Fire automatic weapons in short bursts for accuracy, or switch to single fire mode if applicable.
10) To grab your enemy’s dog tag as a souvenir, do a stealth knife kill from behind.

The Battlefield 3 Open Beta will be visible in the Xbox Live Marketplace under Demos, or you can go to Xbox.com via this link and add the Open Beta to your Xbox 360 download queue automatically.

PC
If you have already installed our new download service Origin, go to the section “Free games”, where the Battlefield 3 Open Beta will appear for download. You can also head to this product page via the web. If you have not installed Origin yet, it will ask you to do so before proceeding with the download of the Open Beta itself.

I run a Quad core 2.83ghz core 2 quad, 460GTX gig EVGA super overclocked and the default graphics settings was max at 1900x1200. I thought that was odd.

I disabled AA since i don't use it, and played for a hour, game was smooth, it felt just as good as bad company 2 does in gameplay.

I put fraps on and my FPS was hovering around 40fps. Seemed awesome to me. I think quad core is the main factor with this game.

Looks like uncaps are out of bounds on Caspian? Chalk up another victory to the jets if so. I couldn't be 100% sure due to lag and the fact that the map/minimap don't do much to tell you where you are.

OOB for infantry/vehicles, heli's and jets have no problem making attack runs on uncaps.

They've said they don't want the public having access to Caspian Border yet, and that if specially selected people/clans/communities keep divulging the password, they'll stop with it altogether.

Well the lucky ones getting in seem to all be disconnecting,that's for a reason,cause the damn map is NOT ready.

Me now i'm glad they might consider closing it cause its gonna leave a bad taste in some peoples mouth,hell if there was a invitation slot for me i wouldn't even bother with the d/c issues i'm hearing,i would rather wait till its stable and ready to go .

For once Ea is offering to make ONE of their maps fully stable before letting people drill the hell out of it like Metro and i'm sure Caspian is gonna be their cash cow and savior and if its released as bad as Metro,they wont stand a chance with MW3 sells out the ass right now .

So let Ea fix the damn map so everyone can have a stable gaming experience..if they released it now,everyone would be bashing the hell out of it and complaining about d/c issues...Ea is pretty smart i will admit this round .:thumbsup:

It should be the other way around, a major fail there. They just can't support sandbox tactics, can they? Infantry and vehicles have to stay out in the middle of the map where they can get raped.

can someone explain the AA settings? there seems to be 2 AA settings and 1 of them is off by default (2x, 4x thingy) but the other AA setting is on. it still looks decent but i'm wondering if i need to turn on the 2x, 4x, etc thingy.

The AA settings might be messed up, i don't use aa, but the default settings for cards seem to automatically put to max settings regardless if you can run at that or not.

I wish they would let you change graphic options easier, is it me or is it hard to get to menu screen from games?

not just you, the options menu is only accessible after you spawn in. so you have to spawn, then hide so someone doesnt kill you while you jacking with settings.

I agree. In bf1943 it was hella fun walking into an uncap and either stealing a plane or tank or placing c4 on them and waiting for an unsuspecting enemy trying to fly/drive out of the uncap and blowing them up. In bf3, if you are skilled enough to walk/drive into an uncap without getting blown to bits and steal or booby trap enemy air/armor it should be allowed. Making it OOB is a mistake.

Just find an empty server. That's what I did lastnight, though I would get kicked after a while for being idle. However, it was nice to make changes and to test them out quickly in the map.

last night i was having a hard time joining any server, much less an empty one. but that would be a good idea if you can locate an empty one.

I didnt think you could play on an empty server. I wanted to fool around with attachments after the update last night and when there were less than 5 people you couldnt move, like the countdown when the game is about to start.

AFAIK, this is the first time they have mentioned fixing a game bug in the beta. I was beginning to think they were just going implement any fixes in the final, in a day-1 patch.

Actually, I don't know the original source, but I have read several people today say it was server specific: "This is cause the server hosts arent properly restarting the maps and your running into holes made from the previous rounds by explosives. Some of the hosts are doing it properly but some arent. (source)"

Played a round of Caspian for like 20 mins, got booted when we were starting a new round lol. Caspian is a lot of fun.

The only thing I find annoying in the game is, it's pretty damn hard to actually see a person. Had some guy that was on the edge of a forest shooting rocks at my tank and I knew where he was but I could not see the bastard between the detail of everything and the camo everyone wears.

Ah, and there it was. The password for Caspian Border.
So the deal with Caspian Border in the Open Beta is that it is only for internal testing at the moment.

Passwords are being given out to selected community members, sites and clans to help us evaluate the feedback we are getting as well as making sure that the map is continiously being tested.

The passwords will be changed on a frequent basis and I am personally making sure that as many community people as possible who are engaged in different community sites get the chance to try the map out and supply us with feedback.
This in itself was a challenge. This is only meant to be for internal testing. When footage and passwords start being spread around, it´s difficult for me to justify the community´s cause about joining us in our internal testing.

So please, if you are participating in the testing, please don´t post any footage and please don´t spread the password.

If we can´t keep this in an organized fashion, I won´t be able to include the community into more cool stuff in the future

Also, if you haven't pre-ordered BF3 yet, you might want to wait. GMG signed a distribution deal with EA so they will have BF3 on their store soon. They're about to release a 25% off promo code, which would be nice if they made the price 10% off like their other pre-orders.

They're still beta testing the EA system though, so no idea how soon they'll add the games to their storefront.

Voucher is SUMMERBLOWOUT25 but only availble for 24 hours. They said BF3 should be up within 2 weeks. More codes incoming though.

That sucks, because the metro map is terrible. I feel like metro was the default map to please all the COD players. I was close to canceling my preorder too, but the caspian gameplay won me over.

Can't believe EA/Dice alienated all the BF2 vets.

It is a shame cause when i built my first gaming rig with a oced p4 and a 6200le which i upgraded to a 7800 gs in mid 2006 <yeah i was poor then the first game i played was BF2.

While not that good at multiplayer in BF2 mind you this was my first ever fps or game i played on a pc,it left a special place in my heart.

By the time i had a dual core and a decent video card i was playing other games but basically metro did not come close to giving me that BF2 experience i had many moons ago .
