It seems that since they made noob tubes less attractive they had to replace them with something else.
That being said - be warned that I will use the mortar on ATOT's server when playing rush (once I get it )

During the development process, considering the fervor with which they stated this was a BF2 successor, I had the idea that there would be limited ammo to balance things out. Obviously that quickly got dispelled by Alpha, which, I might add, they held mortar out of alpha and beta. So after that I had the idea that surely you'd have to use teamwork to use mortars, as in some kind of spotting requirement(like BF1942 artillery), or SOFLAM, etc.
But alas, no.
With that said, mortars aren't that powerful on conquest. On rush they are no doubt devastating but on conquest not so much. Of course, they still piss people off since the only real way to get back at them is to go mortar yourself.

From the hip works very well. I also seem to remember reading somewhere that some scopes take longer than others. I think the more powerful the scope the longer it takes

fwiw I don't know a single person who got the BF3 box copy for PC, everyone got the digital copy from origin or amazon
spotting helps you out mortaring. while IRL mortar crews are generally 3 people, its very possible to one man them AFAIK. Limited ammo would be a HUGE plus.

I actually pulled my Xonar and downclocked my factory OC'd 570s a bit to see if it is on my end. The problem with that is every game prior to BF3 hasn't caused these kinds of problems. I had like 3-4 really good games in a row and then I kept getting kicked or the game would crash. Once it stabilized I was too pissed to play good. But then it kinda self corrected after not doing anything to fix it. I think it might have to do with the player counts. On Tugboat I start to have problems when its full, not when its half full. I didnt really have these problems in the beta.
All I do is hip fire. More times than not I can hip fire in semi auto mode with sub machine guns and still take 2 guys out. (for example) But with a lot of kills in this game, its when you run into someone and which way you/they are facing.
Ah, so you're the other person who got a physical copy of the game. Pre-ordered mine back in February...

This may have been available as a digital version from Xbox Live and the Playstation store, but doesn't that eliminate the resale/trade in option? So who would do it?

I bought the PC Hardcopy DISC version from Origin using my birthday code..
With BF3's hype i decided to give it a go. I'm certainly enjoying it, but one thing I'm still getting used to, is the amount of unlocks and how powerful they are. In BF1942, everyone was at the same level. Can you even compete as a newer player down the road vs. people who have unlocked gadgets and special abilities? When they give us the first set of maps with Wake and such, will there be a large number of people who have every unlock?

The bullshit of not keeping my vehicles unlocks remember at the start of a new round, more specifically, it shows that I have thermal optics selected for the second thing and when I first enter a tank in a new round I have freaking smoke ever single god damn time, then when I die and go back to customize it shows smoke instead of thermal.
Sometimes my mouse and/or keyboard starts becoming unresponsive, if I hit ESC and hit it again to cancel that menu it works fine again.
There are lots of times when I spot a guy in plain freaking view, my guy even says hey I spotted blah blah blah and yet the guy does have an arrow over him.
Now of this crap happened the first few days but now it is all becoming really common. The smoke/thermal issue happens every single time I start a new round now regardless. Has been like 20 games in a row, I swear if I had the boxed copy of this game the disc would of been broke and half and the box shredded apart and thrown all over the place by now in my anger at that alone.
how do you spot enemies. when i bring up the quick command, i can only say a few generic things. i miss being able to call for medic or ammo, but spotting doesnt seem to work as i remember it, but its been a long while.

quick is just a quick press of Q but does not give full 3D spot.
Wait, what? He's asking how to spot enemies. I am pretty sure you just center the target in the middle of your scope and tap Q. You don't need to hold and release. What's 3D spotted/
The game is incredibly fun and one of the best looking games currently available. Must of done something right.
What was DICE thinking with the mortar, anyway? Those guys are just blind-firing, right? Yeah, that's way more annoying that the sniper mortar in BC2. Which actually highlights that much of the mortar fire in BC2 was in open territory or from a hillside, which is reasonable. Mortar fire from block to another block, where you have absolutely no chance to see your enemy, is just absurdly stupid and game-breaking. I must have been hit 10 times by that crap last night.

Nizology and Zargon (or maybe someone else) went on a mortoring frenzy last night - I can picture them laughing in front of their PCs everytime they get a kill...
In one map I tried to sneak up to Zargon to knife him but he shut off his mortor in time to kill me!
Just be sure to check your six! I love sneaking up on mortors to knife them! Even if that ment I die being longer than 10 seconds in the opposing teams spawn. Just because people hiding in their own spawn mortoring does not guarantee their safety! LOL :ninja:
