I have and really like these Zalman headphones:

http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-ZM-RS6F.../dp/B0001OYMFO

Very good quality. I agree the sound in BF3 is really good.

However, in BF3 I gripe that it seems much harder to hear nearby footsteps. In BC2 I could almost always hear footsteps and people approaching from behind (on the opposite side of walls, coming up steps, etc) and I could usually spin around quick before getting knifed. I find it much harder to hear these sounds in BF3. Anyone agree with me?

Yes, I find that in general the BC2 directionality of sound was better than BF3. Going to play with the audio settings to see if I can find a good setup.

Is there a specific camo called "Spec Ops" and when is it unlocked, or does it refer to any of the non-default like ranger, paratrooper, etc.?

I have the G930 which is the wireless version and I love it. I got it for $70 new from logitech, had a 50% off coupon. The best directional sound so far in a game would have to go to borderlands, just simply amazing. The bass is pretty good too. It fits comfortably too, although at times it does feel like it pinches my noggin but that's usually when I already have a headache but the rest of the time I can have it on for hours without feeling any discomfort.

ive got this one as well and it rocks..

great mike on it too very clear.

I forgot to mention the mic, I agree it is very clear with no background noises seeping in and it's WIRELESS, I can take a poop while talking on vent lol, not that I do that but it is possible especially with the buttons on the headset which can be mapped as a push to talk button for vent.

Found a couple custom servers that has the low health of hardcore mode, but still has full HUD, spotting, etc of non-hardcore. This is IMO how it should have been and it makes the game quite a bit more enjoyable.

Does anyone have stability issues with this game? I get booted / disconnected from servers about every 30-45 minutes from this game...no rhyme or reason...

Also does anyone have the black screen of death? Where you go to join a server...the game starts to load and then never loads requiring a CTD to get out of the game to start over?

Simply frustrating beyond words!

Yup...I had a black screen and a hard crash tonight. I played MW3 for a few hours straight tonight and no problems. DCU0 for 4 hours straight this week as well. Sometimes the game crashes when I get a battle report. Downclocked my GPUs, turned off hyper threading, pulled out the Xonar sound card. Its the fricking game. Right now I'm just living with it, as I'm not really feeling MW3. Too slow.

I love when that happens sometimes when you pick a server and join the game would crash before it would even load :awe:

Looks like no one is escaping the horrors that are BF3 or"Battlecrasher3" as one fellow gamer on a server this evening called it but i prefer "Battlestutter3" cause when i join a server the audio likes to stutter and everything in the game for me stutters its a good ole time

I don't really crash at all. I know some who do and underclocking their GPUs that came factory overclocked fixed some.

The crash on connect is supposedly due to punkbuster. If that happens I just find a new one.

I have had a couple less frequent events where I am playing...the screen freezes...the window size goes from full screen to windowed...

Then once I get the game to respond...I go back to full screen and the entire screen is red like blood with jagged lines...

I have to control+alt+delete to get back to the desktop and then back into the game to finally get it back...

Generally takes a couple of minutes to complete...super PITA

on a side note I dropped down to 32 man servers to hopefully get in a jet...or chopper to get flares...because it is really fun getting painted withing 15 seconds of getting off the ground and shot down about 15 seconds later

I get disconnect all the time, every 30min or so. Less than at release, but still a lot more than you should.

I tried--unsuccessfully--to test this, so I'm gonna see if someone here can find out and confirm one way or another:

Does the stealth attack chopper perk stack if both pilot AND gunner equip it?

Stealth normally extends the lock-on time required from a stinger's base lock on time by some amount. Does having two stealth perks equipped DOUBLE that time extension? Or is it the same as one stealth perk?

Sure do. I'm using TB HPA2's and the directional cues are pretty good in BF3 but not as good as they were in BC2. (The audio quaility is better though.)

But I am having the same problem with footsteps. In BC2 they were easy to hear and tell which direction they were coming from. In BF3, I usually don't hear footsteps unless someone is running on a wood floor (as in the multi-floored buildings in the infantry only maps). On someting like caspian border, good luck with hearing any footstep anywhere on the map.

If you like the multi-speaker concept, give the HPA2's a try (they have been replaced with the Z6A which look to be just a different color). They have a bass control on the in-line amp so you can add as much or as little bass as you want. When gaming, I normally keep this all the way down (so as not to mask the surround cues) but even at this level the bass is not lacking or absent. However if you are on foot when a tank or two rolls up on you, turn the bass up and it sounds awesome.

one problem i have with 5.1 headphones, at least with the zalman one i bought is that it's a pain in the butt to go back and forth from speakers to headphones because you have to unplug and plug 3 plugs... there has to be an easier way to do this... like a 5.1 input switch or something... does something like this exist? (reasonably affordable of course)

With the TB's a splitter come with them so you can have your headphones and speakers connected at the same time. I don't know if a place like monoprice etc would have a similar piece. But TB has them for sale on their site but the msrp is $19.95.

Hmmm. So does is the FOV setting in BF3 verticle or horizontal? When I saw the option I instantly changed it to 90 but now I'm reading it's a verticle FOV setting so that would actually be a 121 horiz fov setting. Doesn't look fish eyed though.
